I consider that it would be good if the Gransnet Acronyms list were also to include DDiL, DSiL, DMiL anf DFiL and I hope that GNHQ will add these abbreviations to the list.

A LINK to the Gransnet Acronyms list

Is there anyone who agrees with this and is willing to post in this thread in the hope that GNHQ will add these abbreviations to the list?

NB ElderlyPerson these are not acronyms just lazy abbreviations.

Upon checking, I found that those that I have suggested are indeed not acronyms.

Also some of those in the Gransnet list are not acronyms and some could be but in practice are not always used as acronyms.

Thank you for helping me to learn.

I don’t think a lot of people are getting PMs.
I think it’s another cunning plan ( said in Baldricks voice) ?

Kim19 Sun 31-Oct-21 19:25:25

Yep, think this is quite unnecessary and go along with Monica and Lucca.

Many thanks to Calistemon for supporting this request.

Following from the post of sodapop it seems the net result of this thread and our discussion is that the page labelled as Acronyms needs to be replaced with a page labelled as Abbreviations and the word 'acronyms' removed.

I hope that GNHQ will arrange this please.

In real life does anyone call anyone dear??

I dont think GN has a policy that daughters in law should be treated as daughters, you may have seen people on the site saying that but I dont think GN have ever announced a position on it.

Some threads make it very clear that mother and daughter are at odds for all kinds of reasons and some daughters are anything but D to their parents.

As are some husbands to their wives!

Oh please no more abbreviations, the ones we have are annoying enough.

Totally agree

In LINK this article there is the heading

1. Treat her as you would a daughter

I doubt it. Actually I’d be annoyed if they did as there are other changes that have been requested myriad times to no avail.

Lucca Mon 01-Nov-21 08:14:40

Oh and just by the way I don’t treat my daughter in law as my daughter (I don’t have one) I treat her as a good friend.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 01-Nov-21 09:10:41

For heaven’s sake, don’t we all have better things to think about than GN’s wretched abbreviations?

nanna8 Mon 01-Nov-21 09:16:49

I’d never come across these Ds before I came to this site. I thought it must be a British thing.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 01-Nov-21 09:24:03

Not as far as I’m concerned nanna. I don’t know anyone who peppers talk about offspring, grandchildren or spouses with ‘dear’ or ‘darling’. And EP wants even more of this tosh. I’m going to go down the garden and scream.

I Haven’t got a garden so do one for me please !

How do you address yours, EP?

Glad to read that AC means Adult Child and not Autocorrect. Mind you, they can both be infuriating!

There is a saying "Do not grumble away your opportunities".

So, if there are changes that you want made, you could start a new thread in the Site Stuff forum with a title such as

Could GNHQ make these changes please?

and then requests could be made and there could possibly be good results.

A positive approach often generates good results.

I hate the abbreviations too. I am a bear of little brain, and get confused when I see someone talking about visiting their GP, and assume they are ill. Similarly AC and DC have me thinking of rock bands or electrical currents, and the whole Dear/Darling thing is jarring, particularly, as has been said, on posts where people say ‘My dear husband is being a pain in the neck’?. Otherwise it just seems a bit ‘surrendered’.
