Maverick!

annodomini Fri 14-Dec-12 22:40:53

Bridget Jones, The Edge of Reason. The theme had gone dry second time round.

artygran Fri 14-Dec-12 22:33:49

Alexander the Great, with a shockingly wooden and completely miscast Colin Farrell, and his army of Macedonians with thick Irish accents! They should have been ashamed to let it out of the cutting room.

Oh Deedaa mine too, luckily I could walk out of it. Love Mamma Mia, but loathed the last Sex and the City

Deedaa Fri 14-Dec-12 22:08:12

One of my all time lows was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (or was it the other way round?) I sat through it all because I was with a friend, but I'd lost the will to live after the first fifteen minutes.

I'm sorry to disagree with so many people but I loved Mama Mia. I wasn't expecting much and when we found the cinema was crammed with a mix of middle aged ladies and school girls I was a bit dubious. But it was great! Everyone was singing along, the schoolgirls were all getting up and dancing and we all left the cinema grinning like idiots smile

wink

BAnanas Fri 14-Dec-12 20:29:34

Actually Ana, can't say I remembered, I was just scanning through the thread to see what others had nominated as their particular hates to see if I agreed with anyone.

Ana Fri 14-Dec-12 20:13:17

Fancy you remembering that, BAnanas (about The Royal Tenenbaums, I mean) - I'd forgotten I'd said how dire I thought it!

Wheniwasyourage Fri 14-Dec-12 19:37:48

Rosemary's Baby. The Way We Were - we saw it on the 2nd night of our honeymoon, expecting it to be as good a What's Up, Doc?, which we both love (still) but it was so depressing.

annodomini Fri 14-Dec-12 19:33:30

Mama Mia is fun and doesn't claim to be anything else. That's why I like it so much - that and Colin Firth of course.

BAnanas Fri 14-Dec-12 19:32:35

It seems everyone here hates Mamma Mia, I don't, but can see it's cringemaking, as was Love Actually really hated the Hugh Grant/Martine McClucheon love story bit, yeah right can really see those two getting it on! Also hated Apocolypse Now, that would be my number one hate, but it was directed by Francis Ford Coppola who was also responsible for my all time favourites The Godfather 1 and 2 Didn't rate latest Anna Karenina much. Thought 40 Year old Virgin was crass and horrible and I think Anagram said she didn't like Royal Tenanbaums I agree, can't understand why it was so highly rated. My husband didn't like Moulin Rouge, I quite like it, I don't like the Bourne Films much which he does, but am OK with James Bond. Also by the time I'd got to the third film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, I'd had it with hobbits and I'm definitely not going to see "The Hobbit".

isthisallthereis Fri 14-Dec-12 19:09:03

Oh and Dances with Wolves. I think that's the last movie I actually walked out of.

isthisallthereis Fri 14-Dec-12 19:07:59

Another Yes for Mamma Mia. Hadn't seen the stage show but thought the movie was a joyful hoot!

Back to worsts though. Has anyone seen a fairly obscure movie "Ratboy"? Dreadful.

I've never laughed at Steve Martin. Roxanne in particular - awful.
Avatar. Boring and dreadful.
And I'm another one who can't get to the end of Titanic. In fact I've not got beyond the first 15 minutes.

Grossi Fri 14-Dec-12 19:00:00

Nellie Moser I hated The Devils too. In fact, my sister and I walked out part way through it.

As for Fellini films, another film in my bottom five is Amarcord.

And my most recent horrible film experience was called Into the Wild.

nanapug Fri 14-Dec-12 18:55:54

Noooooooo, I love Mamma Mia, it's a real feel good film.....

crimson Fri 14-Dec-12 18:33:23

Never having seen Mamma Mia I caught it on the telly a few weeks back; watched a few minutes but couldn't believe what rubbish I was watching. I loved The Devils; it was the time in our lives where we watched Ken Russell and Fellini films. However, if I saw The Devils now I'd probably think it was pretentious drivel. Hated Black Swan, having looked forward to it for ages. On the subject of pretentious drivel I agree about The Tree of Life. And I didn't like Shutter Island. Must admit to having a soft spot for Russell Crowe and find him very watchable [which I don't understand with him having such a characterless podgy face].

Nelliemoser Fri 14-Dec-12 17:46:39

Ken Russells. "The Devils" from 1971. A revolting film.

I just loved Mama Mia I didn't think I would at all when it started, but I got carried away with the enthusiasm. It was just such a gloriously silly, funny and happy film with no pretensions to be anything more.

Lilygran Fri 14-Dec-12 13:34:29

Add Black Swan, Il Deserto Rosso and Marienbad (with you there, mice) and Stromboli. Exposed to too much pretentious rubbish high culture too young smile

annodomini Fri 14-Dec-12 13:31:17

The Mothman Prophecies - supposedly a chiller. More likely to send you to sleep.

petallus Fri 14-Dec-12 12:32:02

The King's Speech would be in my list of worst films.

The Chipmunks, the latest one about being shipwrecked, watched several times with GS who loved it.

MiceElf Fri 14-Dec-12 11:41:56

Last year in Marienbad when I was 17 and had an arty boyfriend. I hadn't a clue what it was about and had nothing to say.

Lilygran Fri 14-Dec-12 11:00:08

Moulin Rouge.

Jacki11 Fri 14-Dec-12 10:41:40

Same here Mamma Mia the worst ever i watched to till date.

numberplease Thu 14-Jun-12 18:14:32

Unlike some, I loved Mama Mia, it was good fun! I`ll second Myra Breckenridge though, as a flippin` awful film. And I hate all those Eastern style martial arts type films that my hubby just loves.

NannaB Thu 14-Jun-12 07:52:17

Avatar - 3-D effect good but story line and script rubbish.Hated Black Swan.

Ganja Thu 14-Jun-12 07:03:50

Tree of Life, pretentious rubbish, but the little boy was good.
