This drama is on BBC 1 tomorrow at 9 pm and should be worth watching. I read the book several years ago and was very moved by it.It deals sensitively with the topic of dementia and has a very good storyline as well which was engrossing. The drama stars Glenda Jackson as Maud.If you are looking for something light hearted this is not for you but I would recommend it.If you do watch it ,please comment.

Yes, I thought it looked 'good'. Definitely not light hearted and I'm pretty sure I am not up to watching it at the moment.

Greenfinch, I agree, the book was really moving, I’m looking forward to watching it.

Oh thanks for the heads up Greenfinch. I read the book quite a while ago and yes, so moving wasn't it?

The book was an amazing insight into the mind of a person with dementia.
Looking forward to it.

I set it up to record as soon as I knew it was going to be on.
I'm pretty sure I read it ages ago.

It's great to see Glenda Jackson back. She is such a fine actress, loved her in Women in Love, Elizabeth R, Mary Queen of Scots, and she was so funny in A Touch of Class with George Segal. They were both brilliant. I really loved that film, do see it if you haven't.

Not only did Jackson think the script was “remarkable", but the role also appealed because it explores an issue she has been “banging on about for at least a decade”. “We are living longer, and this is a deep black hole, which none of the political parties has really taken on board.”

Thanks Greenfinch for the recommendation. I’m in Spain till next Thursday night but will definitely watch it on catch up next weekend.

I read the book a couple of years ago and found it unsettling.

We plan to watch it. Our 93 year old friend has read the book and is urging us to watch the series. She says it will be helpful if she has dementia when she’s old smile.

Such a good book. I’ll definitely be watching the telly version.

Calendargirl Sat 07-Dec-19 20:54:10

I love that cornergran, at 93 it will be helpful when she’s ‘old’
?

I read part of the book but couldn’t continue. I’m sure it will be excellent but I don’t think I’m strong enough to watch.

I haven’t read the book but I m really looking forward to the drama and seeing Glenda Jackson who I believe is 83

It was a compelling read so I'm sure the film will be worth watching. Love your friend’s comment, corner!

Always been a fan of Glenda Jackson and will be watching this. I read this book fairly recently, and it’s compelling, but not an easy read.

Looking forward to it. I have also read the book which I really enjoyed.

What an amazing actress Glenda is. This is harrowing - I am in tears.

Sara65 Sun 08-Dec-19 22:05:15

So sad for everyone, such good acting.

Ginny42 Sun 08-Dec-19 22:07:40

I saw Glenda being interviewed about the role and her return to acting after 25 years. I always rated her as an actress, but right now is not a good time for me to watch it. Simon Reeve in Ireland was a very compelling alternative. Glad others enjoyed it though.

makes me so determined - NEVER

MawB Sun 08-Dec-19 22:29:39

Very sensitively done. Very moving.

Greenfinch Sun 08-Dec-19 22:36:07

Excellent but very very sad.

Maggiemaybe Sun 08-Dec-19 22:37:04

Brilliant. Our Glenda can certainly act!

I'd assumed it was a series, so was pleasantly surprised to find it was a one off. Too many books are spoiled by being dramatised over too many hours.

Callistemon Sun 08-Dec-19 22:37:47

I read the book and did wonder whether this would be as good.

It was excellent, very moving and the acting was brilliant and very sensitive.
