(What’s a fogey anyway ? Anyone know ? )

I mute the tv during the ads
I like my house warm
I avoid being on the road in the school run
I like quiet
I love good manners.

Gemini1789 - ditto I love all these things too. Can't stand hearing young adults curse and swear out in the streets in the passing whilst they are wheeling baby/toddler along, really gets to me. Don't like driving in dark now either - what is it with getting old wink

Now I've reached the end of the thread (so far), I've forgotten what the description of fogeydom was in the OP, so that probably makes me a fogey of itself. I like watching Countdown and am pretty good on arithmetic; I do sometimes say 'in my day', or 'when I was your age'; prefer comfy shoes - and why not? have a very tatty car; own a pinny (but rarely wear it); bedsocks are a 'must'; only swear when no-one else can hear me; find myself discussing my ailments with friends who do the same. However, I do own a smart phone and a smart TV; prefer to read my Kindle; have a growing relationship with 'Alexa'.
Is late-night web-surfing and shopping a feature of fogeydom? If it is, I plead guilty!

?? annodomini, on my iPad you are just under the OP on the second page!
If you all promise not to tell anyone in the RW will share my contribution to old fogeyism.
I often wear a light sports bra instead of a structured one.?
Not to go out though unless I’m wearing something baggy.

Haha, what a great thread and an antidote to doom and gloom.smile
Last night I was enjoying being an old fogey, pjs on and fluffy socks at 8.30 feet up on the sofa looking around the lamplit room and the recently filled logbasket with contentment, doing a crossword.
I wear a pinny for baking ( but always have, just common sense.) I love cosy slippers once Summer is over, ditto furry dressing gown on colder mornings, but have always felt the cold badly.
Flat or almost flat shoes, for years.I feel I am growing into old age well and enjoying it.?

I’ve got to admit we do favour a matinee over an evening performance these days. grin

Old fogey - moi?

DH certainly is one - farting and sneezing as loud as possible.

But then again, when I think about it - lunch meet-ups are better than evening ones - for reasons of digestion and being able to keep awake.
Elasticated waists are taking over.
The mirror is only there to be cleaned - preferably not to be looked at.
The banisters are coming into their own.

What was the question?

Anja Wed 02-Oct-19 10:28:59

Nope....and I am the school run ?

Nannylovesshopping Wed 02-Oct-19 10:50:21

Definitely not and won’t ever be?

Lolarose4 Wed 02-Oct-19 11:11:37

I have a kindle for reading which I love , I run in my spare time half marathon this Sunday coming up . I work full time, love my slippers ha ha . But I don’t want to be a old fogey ? I’m 59 in November. Just a number though ?

Well done you MissAdventure, I trippped in a pothole 10 weeks ago, ended up in hospital for 4 days with broken wrist, so bad had to have a plate put in and still cannot put any pressure on my wrist. So you keep writing to the councils re the potholes. Here’s one person grateful for your efforts.

Anthea1948 Wed 02-Oct-19 11:15:53

I am, and I'm not.
I like to be warm, but don't like slippers - or shoes, come to that. I like jumpers but not vests, every TV programme is recorded so we fast forward through the ads, but I like Netflix. I don't like going out in the evenings. I wear elastic waists but trousers, not skirts and they have to be bootleg cut, I like fountain pens but I'm good with technology, I like soft ballads, but I like loud rock as well. I like to go to the theatre (even if it's in the evening) but I enjoy rock music gigs. I could go on ...

Greyjoy1953 Wed 02-Oct-19 11:15:54

By the way that doesn’t make you an old fogey either.

Nannan2 Wed 02-Oct-19 11:20:21

Im not thank goodness! ( even though ive got creaky knees already at 56!grin

Missiseff Wed 02-Oct-19 11:25:45

Thankfully not!!!!!

Culag Wed 02-Oct-19 11:26:31

Well I wear vests but call them camisoles! And they are in all sorts of colours.

sue01 Wed 02-Oct-19 11:34:34

Haha.

GrannyGravy... when you say you took pictures of really bad ones and sent them to the Council... do you mean Old Fogeys or Potholes ??

Oopsminty Wed 02-Oct-19 11:35:28

Hehehe, sue01. Made me chortle.

Nanny27 Wed 02-Oct-19 11:36:19

Brilliant thread! I don't want to be an old fogey. I hope I'm not. I still like going out in the evening and am not bad with technology. I still like high heels on occasions but.. (whispers) pants are getting a little larger and I have a secret yearning to try non-wired bras.

sylviann Wed 02-Oct-19 11:36:33

Well yes I'm an old to get but can still give my gran kids a challenge

Fairiesfolly Wed 02-Oct-19 11:41:14

Some days I am and some days I’m not. Today I feel quite young and looking forward to our break away for our golden wedding.

I hate driving myself in the dark but don’t mind if someone else drives at night.

I like slippers and elastic waists. I like trendy ankle boots and knee length flat boots. I love summer shift dresses, so flattering when you have a bit of a tummy. I still have a funky not frumpy hair style. Although I have gone au natural which is a steel colour and some white so fifty shades really!!. I always used to colour it but it is such high maintenance and I was getting itchy scalp when colouring so time to stop!

Last week my back went and had to see a chiropractor so got a stick out and felt about 90 until the nice man fixed it!

Still sometimes eat of an evening but if we have a meal out it’s usually lunch time ish!

Best nightspot in town is my own bed and I know my daughter feels this way too, not necessarily and old person trait, at least I don’t have afternoon naps yet!

Hate the funeral plan ads (Now where is that Mary) and so we too mute the tv during ads or record and skip past them. Love Netflix, go to the movies occasionally.

You get old when you think you are old, it’s all in the mind!

SparklyGrandma Wed 02-Oct-19 11:44:10

I might be an old fogey, I love peace and quiet, having an afternoon snooze, wearing comfortable clothes and flat shoes..like being warm n cosy, especially my feet.

I can now see what all the older folk were about when I was a young adult.

I hate rudeness. I try to keep a lid on my complaining to this council or that...

Love cake...never go out after dark, prefer not to, hate rowdy behaviour ??

Oopsminty Wed 02-Oct-19 11:48:58

Oh yes, those funeral plan ads.

I've had to retire due to illness and do get out and about but I also watch a fair bit of daytime TV.

They make me feel like a real old fogey and likely to pop my clogs at any minute.

I watch them with utter disbelief. They have a couple meeting up in a shop and he asks how she is and she says she's fine and just back from a funeral. Chap asks how it went and women starts babbling on about the brilliant funeral plan she'd had in place. You just wouldn't would you?

Then the grandma with daughter and grandchild. Having a lovely afternoon and suddenly Gran starts to talk about her imminent death.

And the man with his nosey neighbour. Parsnips anyone?

I think we all know we're not going to live forever but a few days viewing daytime TV makes you realise it lots more!

hilz Wed 02-Oct-19 11:49:04

Comfy clothes and footwear..Regular baking day..Enjoy the countryside...Watch TV without guilt..Wetwipes in my handbag..love a good read..Suck on the occasional sweetie found in the bottom of my bag..Yes I celebrate my fogeyness every minute of the day.

grannytotwins Wed 02-Oct-19 11:50:48

I’m not an old fogey. I love fashion, but I’m not mutton dressed as lamb. I love makeup and have my brows tattooed which look amazingly subtle. I love the latest technology. I’m currently doing my first Dan black belt in martial arts. I might consider being a fogey in ten years when I’m 80.

castletown5 Wed 02-Oct-19 11:53:07

Am I an old fogey. What does anyone think of the recycle bags at Sainsburys, 30p each to put your veg or fruit in, a different bag for each item, me thinks are unhygienic. customers handling them, coughing over them, can't be helped of course, any thoughts, is it just me? grin
