I've put on a whole load of weight with lockdown & now the temperatures are dropping I need a few new things to wear but I've no idea what colours are trendy. Any ideas?

Impossible to get out I would say.
A propos of which, is spilling things down one’s front an “age” thing?
I’m sure I never used to and it’s not as if I have a bazoom to catch it all!

Chewbacca Sun 06-Sept-20 19:56:03

I have your bazoom Maw. And more besides. I'm working on the theory that, due to the extraordinary distance my food and drinks have to travel, to traverse the vast distance over my bazooms, it's mathematically impossible for some of it not to fall off or drip before it reaches me. Especially if the food/drink is more brightly coloured than clothing I'm wearing.

Plastic dicky bibs!

Lucca Sun 06-Sept-20 21:18:24

I have no boobs to speak of and still am a messy eater! I have a lovely silky loose Masai blue top I never dare wear if we are eating out ....

Chewbacca Sun 06-Sept-20 21:30:56

Well at least Lucca, when you do spill your food down your bazooms, they're not prominently sticking out and splattered with the remnants of your last meal! I'll send off for a couple of these for us.

Lucca Mon 07-Sept-20 08:33:28

Oh lord no I think that would signal the beginning of the end !!

Lucca Mon 07-Sept-20 08:34:25

I bet that nice looking lady was thrilled to get the job modelling that adult bib !

Auntieflo Mon 07-Sept-20 09:20:58

I went to a garden centre last week, and whilst having coffee, there were at least 6 other ladies, nearby, who were wearing navy and white striped tops. Mine was mostly white with navy!

Is it a uniform?

My beloved, late husband suffered from 'young onset' dementia. During the years when he struggled to feed himself those 'adult bibs' proved to be a wonderful way of keeping spilled food off his clothes. Thus maintaining his dignity. When I eventually had to feed him I continued to use the bibs and recommend them to others in a similar situation.

Does women's fashion predict or only mirror political trends?

For instance the short skirts and hair of the 1920s, and Dior's glorious New Look of 1947-8 and on into the 50s. BTW neither of those was interested in the trendiness or otherwise of colour.

We are told pastels and free unconstricted Empire line dresses were partly a political reaction to the iron grip of the old aristocracies. (Jane Austen)

I have always loved a navy and white (or stone) striped top, teamed with dark navy jeans and a navy blazer. I have always worn a lot of black, but am trying to change that, without much success! Hate anything green, with the exception of khaki. Being dark, with olive skin, red suits me, but I just don't like it. Do admit to loving animal print which has just been done to death, so sadly won't be buying anymore.

I must be one of the few people that suit lime green. Every time I wear it I am complimented. But if I wear beige people think I'm ill. sparklingsilver you sound as if you do take a lot of trouble over your appearance and your outfits sound lovely.

Craftycat Mon 07-Sept-20 09:49:56

Thank you NotSpaghetti

Lovely bright lively colours which are what suit me so I will be fine this winter!! I had my colours done yonks ago but still stick to them- makes shopping so much easier.

annodomini Mon 07-Sept-20 09:54:21

Chewbacca. 'Smart and stylish'? Are you sure it was me? grin

Mokell50 Mon 07-Sept-20 10:03:15

I love lime green on other people but not me. I had my colours done years ago, ( I’m a sweet pea summer?) so always keep to those colours rather than following fashion.

jaylucy Mon 07-Sept-20 10:05:26

Considering that this spring and summer was supposed to be pastels and the "pantone" ( yes I thought that was some kind of Italian cake or a brand of shampoo!) was supposed to be pale blue - did anyone actually spot any pastel colour clothing Covid or not? Nope , me neither!
Autumn/ Winter I would always go for berry shades, purple, bottle or khaki green, chocolate brown . In fact just about any colour that makes you feel warm just by looking at it!!
But seeing as I'm sitting here , dressed head to toe in different shades of grey (not as many as 50) , who am I to say what is fashionable?
Can anyone else remember a time when a certain style of clothing - be it mini skirts, maxi skirts, polo necks, large sleeves, slim fitting sleeves etc and that was all you could find in the shops? Now each shop seems to have their own fashion but what really bugs me is when the buyers look as if they have gone into a stock warehouse and said "I'll have that one, that one, some of those and a couple like that" and absolutely nothing goes with each other apart from black ??

Thanks NotSpaghetti.. really enjoyed your link to London Fashion Week...some lovely colours there.

netflixfan Mon 07-Sept-20 10:14:50

Just wear what suits you. I've never understood why we all supposed to wear 'autumn shades' like we want to camouflage in the fallen leaves.

Chris5640 Mon 07-Sept-20 10:29:05

I have always wanted a camel coat and try one on every year. Colour drains me and I look awful. Have just bought a lovely maroon biker jacket for the autumn which I will dress up with scarves and wear with jeans. Stick with fashions and colours which suit you.

Mollygo Mon 07-Sept-20 10:29:14

I always chose navy blue until one year I tried a rust coat. Now I’m more adventurous so I’ll try anything, and if it suits me, I’ll wear it. Had my colours done once and was given grey and bottle green, neither of which I feel good in so I don’t bother.

merlotgran Mon 07-Sept-20 10:32:19

I look anaemic in pastel colours. Autumn colours suit me and I love colours often referred to as 'sludge.' grin

omega1 Mon 07-Sept-20 10:34:39

Sparkling Silver you sound like me as I love bright colourful clothes, never wear black, brown or any dingy colours. It makes me feel better to wear bright colours and other people like it too

QuiltyElaine Mon 07-Sept-20 10:35:32

I love colour and had my colours 'done' when it was fashionable a few years ago, I love all the berry colours plus Blues! I read an interesting article that helps point you in the right direction, If you look at your wrist skin/veins they should be either blueish or yellowish indicating that you have a cool or warm complexion. If you are cool like me you should look for colours that have a greyish undertone as opposed to a yellowish/warm feel too them if that makes sense. The websites below are good for sorting colours - Cool = Winter & Summer; Warm = Spring & Autumn. I am summer as although cool colours, the very bright jewel colours and black etc of the Winter palette are too harsh for me, but the softer charcoal grey and raspberry etc of the summer palette look good. I never follow fashion but I always buy colours I love hope this helps smile www.houseofcolour.co.uk www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk

As I’m probably going to be in semi lockdown this winter, the only fashion statement I will be making is through my bright (Boden) face-masks.

Gwenisgreat1 Mon 07-Sept-20 11:07:35

As far as I'm concerned it's what fits
