Evening all! It’s really only mid afternoon but it feels like evening, with the sun heading to the horizon as I walked to the postbox. It is one of my newfound pleasures to walk down our quiet country lane, past delightful cottages and looking out onto fields, to send messages or cards winging their way.
Welcome Flora ( my mum’s name!) and thank you for the carb free biscuits. Just what this cup of tea needs! Keep up the improvement soop - you sound chirpier today.
Feeling a bit smug as I have finished planting the tulips this afternoon and planting out a few pots of snowdrops which are just showing signs of life.
TOYA ( Flora that is our shorthand for Thinking of You All) and keep safe x

Hello to all kitchen friends.
Flora one of those days you just want to forget! Sends your blood pressure up and sets off a panic. At least you know where your mobile is, even if it has been under car wheels ?
soop (whispering in case I disturb her) I hope you’ve rested and watched the world and wildlife go by your window. Glad to hear you have books to escape into and goodies in a gift hamper for you and MacS.
Wishing a relaxing evening for all nannies who have been run off their feet today. At least if you’ve kept moving you’ve kept warm!
Thinking of everyone, and ...... the shortbread was lush. Thanks.

Nannytopsy Your post made me smile out loud. Is that possible? wink

Flora Oh dear, what a buggeration of an afternoon for you. No worries regarding the missing cookies. We're thankful that at least you know what happened to your phone. Even though the outcome could have been better. You are not stupid. Do you understand? We've all done stuff that makes us want to weep. Lots of good vibes winging their way from a dark and chilly Kintyre.

soop Tue 01-Dec-20 17:33:08

Puzzler I meant to thank you for the flowers that you left in the kitchen. You are a kind lady.

As are all the grandmas that have been doing their best to entertain little ones. You are a very special breed of Nana.

I'm away for today. Feeling chirpier. Looking forward to joining you all again tomorrow. smile moon

Flora5 Tue 01-Dec-20 18:19:03

Nannytopsy Yes quite right a buggeration of a day smile
Hey ho onwards and upwards.
I love the sound of planting pots of snowdrops and tulips N T.
Spring what a joy. You have inspired me to nip to Garden centre to do the same . I will leave my Mob at home !
Glad you are feeling a little better Soop.
TOYA see you tomorrow.

Flora5 Can you retrieve the card from the phone and move it? Is the info not in the Cloud. I think if you phone the brand helpline you may find that all is not lost.

Well, I've had a day I'd rather forget! Noticed when I woke today that one leg - shin / was very hot. When I got out of bed and flexed my toes, it was not comfortable to walk. There was an area of discolouration on my shin. Panic!!! (I do a very good panic). I was immediately anxious that I wasn't looking at a possible deep vein thrombosis. Phoned and spoke to my GP at 10.30. Seen by two Doctors at 11.30. They felt everything o.k. but wanted to be sure, so sent to Clinic for blood test by 12.30pm Went to Pharmacie to be measured for support stockings and picked up analgesic gel. Clinic would contact GP in the afternoon and she would phone me. She did, at 7pm, no problem with my blood/vein in the way of any blockage. She had also spoken to a Vascular Surgeon who said that on the results, he didn't need to see me. However, because the leg is still hot and feels like I have banged it against something, I need to speak to her again in a couple of days to confirm all is well and no sign of infection, if it isn't she'll arrange for another test and also for me to have a Doppler test. Have had 5 Star service and reassurance and kindness but would have preferred, on balance, to have been at home faffing and catching up on household chores and complaining about being stuck at home!!! I'm not used to this sort of all-day event.

So sorry about the world running over your mobile, Flora. A really miserable afternoon for you. Better day tomorrow, hopefully. Keep chirping along, soop - and every day get stronger. I'm looking forward to a photo tour of Fern's new quarters. So wish I could go to a garden centre. I've planted my (last year's) tulips already - almost black and apricot ones in tubs. I do miss my snowdrops in Normandy - I should have brought some with me. And when I think we had a huge cider press completely surrounded by Lily of the Valley. Here in France, small bunches of Muguet are given out to friends and family on the 1st May, which is a nice French tradition - but we struggle most years to stop them burning up by that date, so don't try to grow them in the garden any more. Ah well, horses for courses, I think.

Have a good rest of the evening - a good rest, in fact, especially all the Grans who have been on duty with much loved little ankle-biters.

See you soon. Hugs !

Puzzler61 Tue 01-Dec-20 19:18:58

Poor you Grandmafrench. Whatever has occurred to trigger the hot leg condition? A bit of a mystery if you’ve not banged it or been bitten.
Now you must forget the jobs you didn’t get done today, and just keep the leg elevated more than you walk about on it.
This is sensible advice - you would give it to me if the situation was reversed - you know it makes sense (in the nicest possible way, with a hug) ?

Flora5 Tue 01-Dec-20 19:19:43

Grandmafrench
Hope your leg feels better tomorrow! Do you think you may have knocked it without realising ? 1st class service by your local medics .
Love France flowers

Puzzler61 Tue 01-Dec-20 19:19:51

Your medical care was ‘par excellence’, very swift actions taken.

silverlining48 Tue 01-Dec-20 19:27:31

Grandmafrench am probably wrong but wonder if it could be cellulitis. If its hot and the red area gets any larger you will need antibiotics. Good luck.

Flora5 Tue 01-Dec-20 19:49:31

Lolly

Flora5 Tue 01-Dec-20 19:52:06

My first attempt at uploading a photo shock
Lolly is a collie x lab ,she is 9 y/o , and the most gentle girl ever.

Feelingmyage55 Tue 01-Dec-20 19:57:48

Grandmafrench. You might not want to draw round the offending inflammation but it is a sure way to check whether or not the area is changing size. (better than a photo)

Urmstongran Tue 01-Dec-20 20:01:37

I do love to read this thread. I think it’s kind, inclusive and supportive in just the same way as Mick’s Good Morning thread.

Glad to hear you’re doing well soop and more upbeat.

And Grandmafrench what an anxious time you had. I can match you regarding health anxiety. I have a silver medal in it I think. It’s gotten worse as I get older.

cornergran Tue 01-Dec-20 20:10:42

Evening All. Pleased you’re sounding brighter soop, don’t be overdoing it though. How lovely to get a surprise hamper. You definitely deserve it and more.

Oh blimey flora, your phone incident is the stuff of nightmares. Fingers crossed the SIM card will save the day in a new phone. Oops, nearly forgot, welcome to the Kitchen.

Superb tree n&g, traditional and truly Christmas.

Ouch grandmafrench, your leg is what our Littlest would call ‘a big ouchie’. The level of care sounds superb, reassuring.

Another one here wondering about our dragonfly, (don’t think I missed a post, could well have done, if so apologies), hope today was reasonable if not good.

Oh well, nothing exciting happening here so I’m off. TOYA and look after yourselves everyone, please. smile.

kittylester Tue 01-Dec-20 20:56:47

Just popping in to welcome flora and see what cake she brought with her.

Having a bit of a down day today so wont infect you all.

I'll bounce in in the morning. Now, there's a scary prospect!

TOYA

Grandmafrench Tue 01-Dec-20 21:32:28

You'd all be quite marvellous and very welcome in a GP Clinic waiting room in France. All that good sense and sound advice, you'd have patients hanging on your every word. The service here is beyond excellent - but (shhh!) that's also because there's quite a lot of hypochondria about!! No need to panic here, Urms, I'd be happy to do it all for you!

I will watch carefully for cellulitis (had a friend in hospital on IV antibiotics following an insect bite). I haven't been bitten or banged my leg. I did have a small cat scratch yesterday - but on the other leg... Doctor said no link. I shall draw around the area that's a problem - excellent idea. I shall rest Puzzler because I don't want this "big ouchie" to hang around a moment longer than necessary. Thank you all for your genuine loveliness. As Urmston says, this thread is wonderful. ( And what a darling dog!)
See you tomorrow, hopefully in a better frame of mind; and hope that kitty will have her Wednesday smile in place.
Nighty night folks x

Nannytopsy Tue 01-Dec-20 21:34:53

Hope your leg is much better tomorrow GrandmaFrench - fingers crossed for you.
When our son drives home after a late shift, he often rings for a chat. His parting line tonight was “and you’re OK for the kids tomorrow morning?”
Panic! No, nobody has mentioned the school run tomorrow! And I have to be at the dentist by 9 ...
Followed by “and we did mention Thursday didn’t we? Can you do morning and afternoon?”
I do wonder sometimes!

Hellogirl1 Tue 01-Dec-20 21:44:36

Flora and Grandmafrench, you`ve each had a hell of a day, hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Soop, have you and MacS scoffed all the hamper goodies yet? What a lovely surprise for you. Glad you`re enjoying the books, have you recognised anywhere yet?
We received our first Christmas card this morning...………...I haven`t even bought any yet!
I`m sitting in the path of an awful cold draught, but can`t think where it`s coming from. The door to the stairs was open, I closed it, but said draught is still blowing all down my right side!

Hellogirl1 Tue 01-Dec-20 21:45:49

PS, Lolly is gorgeous!

Grandmabatty Tue 01-Dec-20 21:59:12

Goodness! Catastrophic day for Flora and Grandmafrench. I've just come on the thread for a last wee look and what do I find? Lost phones and poorly french/France ?? grandmas. OK, one poorly French grandma. Flora I'm glad you recovered your phone. Can you claim on your insurance? It would save you money. Grandmafrench no need to copy me and my blood letting! That sounds a sore one. I hope it goes away tout suite. I had nothing to do with it, honest. Soop nice to see you chipping in. Kittylester ? sometimes we have those kind of days. And sometimes it seems easier to withdraw. You look after yourself. More tests for me of an unpleasant nature tomorrow so I shall love you and leave you tonight.
