Well! you're in the right hemisphere for that! We are now being promised 44C next Monday!
Tuesday is Australia Day, a public holiday so you can bet your boots Monday will be regarded as one too, but you won't find me on the beach; indoors more like, with the Air/Con on full!
Hopefully it will be too hot and kill off lots of Covid bugs

Hello Rufus and anyone else out there. Have this feeling I'm not going to sleep much tonight. Not to worry have a good book. Rufus I wish you were correct about great heat killing off Covid. No such luck! I always when I complained of being cold my lovely Mum would say 'never mind, it kills the bugs'. Not this one it seems. We're in a bit of a no win situation with it at the moment methinks. Think Australia seems away ahead of us right now. Well done if that is the case.

Mollygo .Here's something new I learned today so you can say you've learned two things today!
1. There's an Australian owl called "Rufous Owl (Ninox Rufo} I had a feeling I belonged here!
2.Coincidentally a fellow appeared on a TV chat Show this morning with a real, live "barking" owl. Awesome!
Many viewers had sent in pictures of their pet dogs staring at their TV screens! Sounded absolutely fair dinkum!
Would make a good house guard, especially at night!

Just off to a doctor's appointment so Soup of the Day still on hold!

It’s been a busy night for some of you. I slept well, despite the torrential rain lashing against the window, possibly thanks to the jab I had yesterday-not the jab, but the painkiller type.
.Rufus I’m astonished about the barking owl though it’ll never replace a good guard dog. I’m going to pass your info about heat on to Ceci, who lives down your way and is just back home recovering from the bug. She should stop avoiding the sun!
Kim19, I love McCall-Smith’s books, but I haven’t tried that one. The first one I ever read was Portuguese Irregular Verbs.
Fanny I hope you did eventually drop off. The weather is not an incentive to get up early, especially after a bad night.

Who and where is "Ceci"? Pleased to hear of her recovery from "you know what" assuming my guess is right, but our present scare now that Summer has finally arrived is Melanoma, and rightly so!
TV shots of beach-goers applying sun screen, part of a "Slip, Slap, Slop campaign come up in every programme, plus shots of what to look out for!
So it seems like a choice of the Devil or the deep blue sea.
I'd recommend avoiding the sun like what I'm doing right now waiting indoors for No.2 son to turn up with shopping plus a box of "Fisherman's Basket" for lunch and and a bottle of something or other to help deaden any pains that may or may not arise.
I think soup is off the menu today!
Now, no sleeping ! Don't forget you're supposed to be nocturnal!

Except my eyes are a kind of amber colour, which probably sounds more exotic than it it is.

Hello everyone! Mollygo, delighted to hear we have the same taste in authors. I dip in and out of his many characters but Isabel Dalhousie is my absolute favourite. He does a new one every two years ish and I'm always champing at the bit for its release.. I'm off to do a wee bit catch up telly now. A few good dramas on at the moment and I'm not keeping up. Hope most of us are well into the land of nod.

Yes Rufus, Ceci always used loads of sunscreen when we went on a cruise together. She says the Oz sun is unforgiving to the skin and she wouldn’t be convinced about it as a protective.
Fanny I’m sorry you’re feeling low. I’ve never heard of Welsh tea. Is it from a speciality shop? Hope you manage to sleep soon, if you’re still awake now.
I took ages-part of a book and a listen to an audiobook to doze off, but slept from around 2am till now. I think I’ll plug into the audio book again and see if that helps.

I think that it's all the talk of the vaccine (actually I know that it is).
I'm so sad / angry that DH caught it, especially with being so extremely careful.
My next door neighbour was being either a bit dim and/or very insensitive yesterday. And then I was worried that I'd been rude...
And I really do hope that I'm not going to become bitter...
I started a thread about it a few times yesterday, but kept deleting them!
Anyway - I did say that I didn't want to talk about it so I'd better shut up!

The Welsh tea is called Glengettie. It's from Ocado, it's quite strong, a bit like Assam.
Molly what is your audio book, and Kim, can you recommend any TV dramas? I'm always on the lookout for recommendations.
I tried an AMcCS book years ago and didn't get on with it. It was one of the Ladies' Detective Agency books. Should I give him another bash, do you think?

Good morning. Slept until 4.30am. I've had a bit of a headache for a few days, think its tension, due to it. I would love a cup of tea but I don't want to waken my OH so I'll just have some water.

I found Kim's book on Amazon for around £9. I do like recommendations. But I searched further and found a new copy on ebay for £2.99 free delivery.
I also found Rufus's barking owl on YouTube.

Good morning everyone ( early evening for us ). Hope you are feeling better young Fanny. Never worry about rudeness if you are feeling off and someone upsets you. It is a privilege for those of us who are older and better to speak your mind than simmer !We’ve started watching that long saga, The Vikings ( I know, I know everyone else has already watched it !) . The special effects are amazing and most of us have a bit of Viking blood so there is interest there.

Bedtime again. Last night I listened to the Secret Garden. Audible very kindly sent me a free copy. It’s soothing listening to a familiar book. Tonight I’m starting These Old Shades. It’s my absolute favourite Georgette Heyer and I’ll almost be disappointed if I doze off. Thank heavens for a timer so I won’t miss much.

Waiting for snow here! It's minus 3 and there is a very hard frost. I've opened the curtains a little so I can chart any progress.

We haven't watched The Vikings yet. I see that it it's only seven years old - we usually wait at least ten years before we view the latest 'must watch TV'!
We have a neighbour who is an archaeologist whose dog is named Radnor, so I now I know where they got his name from.
