I remember it well, I got mine pieced on my 13th birthday, went to the jewellers with my mum and felt very brave sitting there waiting for the needle, ? was disappointed I couldn’t have nice gold studs though , had to have the awful thin hoop, felt very grown up and couldn’t wait until Xmas few months later to get my first gold studs

I was 30. My parents were staying with me while DH was working abroad, and my father was keen for mum to have her ears pierced, so we went to the jewellers. I had never thought about it before but ended up having mine done after mum. DH was rather taken with mine when he got home, and it solved many a birthday/Christmas present idea for many years!

Never. I am too cowardly.

I now have two piercings in each ear, which I rather like!

33 the day my first child started school. All my family had pierced ears my maternal gran did peoples with a needle and a cork. My MIL put me off and said it was common until I pointed out all the royal family had theirs done. She told my DH I would end up with lobes you could see through like African women.

I was about 21. I really wanted them pierced but was also very nervous, that I fainted afterwards. Not a full faint on the floor, but that horrible buzzing in the ears and everything in my field of vision going black. What a wuss! Had 2 more ear piercings when I was about 50/55.

Never. I don't wear jewellery as I can't bear the though of metal on my skin, let alone through it.

25.

I was 33. I still hate to see babies or little girls with pierced ears, I didn’t let my daughters have them until their teens. The granddaughters all had them as soon as they wanted, at about 8.

I got mine pierced in Durham Market one Saturday - think I was about 17. Ear lobes frozen and I can still remember the sound of the hoops going in! Neither my DM or DGM had theirs pierced, so it must’ve been peer pressure.
Never worn dangly earrings - now wearing diamond studs DH bought me last Christmas. He died last month, so they’re very special.

Definitely wasn't planned. 37 years ago, walking through Oxford my husband noticed jewellers with a sign ear piercing while you wait and dared me to. Also my 2 then young sons also saying go on go on bet you won't. So l did. Still wear today, but I can only wear silver or gold anything else and they act up.

First ones when I was 17. Second ones when I was 25. Have quite a few earrings but can wear the same ones for a year before I bother to change them.

NotAGran55 Thu 29-Apr-21 19:08:16

Never had them done . The sight of holes in bodies turns my stomach.
I do wear clip-ons every day though.

Bellsnwhistles Thu 29-Apr-21 20:58:20

I was 16. Totally out of character for me to ask for something so 'daring' and was very surprised my mum let me. Never regretted it. Love my earrings!

Floradora9 Thu 29-Apr-21 21:37:44

77 and still not had them done

I was about 36. As a child, my Mum had disliked pierced ears, saying they were "common". In reality "posh" people did, and continue to wear and do whatever they like - including swearing like troopers.

I finally got my ears pierced when my husband's aunt bought me some very nice earrings. Pierced ears are very much part of Asian tradition but I don't agree with young children having their ears pierced. I rarely wore clip earrings as they were so uncomfortable and there wasn't much of a choice.

I was 13 when I had mine pierced at a jewellers. I remember putting vaseline on every night and turning the hoop.
I had my second piercing when I was 33.
I've got a gold hoop at the front and a gold stud at the back.

My first husband was very disapproving of women with pierced ears so I had mine done soon after we separated, when I was thirty or so.

I have a brand new baby Goddaughter in Slovakia and her ears were pierced before she left the maternity hospital. It’s the custom there, but not one that I like. My own daughters had to wait until they were sixteen and had it done as a birthday gift.

I was also 52. I cried so much when the first one was done that the lady didn't want to do the second one so someone else did it. They said they'd done 5 year olds who cried less. People tell me it doesn't hurt or that the pain is fleeting. I thought it was awful and the pain lasted for days. Then I found that I was too scared to take out or put in new earrings so I eventually took them out and let the holes close up.

FannyCornforth Fri 30-Apr-21 09:11:42

Vampirequeen that really doesn't sound right. What did the piercer use?
My DH did some new piercings in mine with an ear piercing gun from Amazon, and it was totally painfree.

vampirequeen Fri 30-Apr-21 10:40:41

It was a gun at a jewellers.

Sofa Fri 30-Apr-21 11:19:26

56 years old!

dolphindaisy Fri 30-Apr-21 11:59:29

70!!!! I'd always avoided it before then but thought I should do something very daring for my 70th. OK I know some people do sky diving or bungee jumping but I made do with having my ears pierced .

tidyskatemum Fri 30-Apr-21 12:52:29

I think people who inflict ear piercing on babies should be done for child abuse! I had mine done in my early twenties and another set in my thirties. I rarely wear two pairs these days though I feel positively naked if I go out without any earrings.

FannyCornforth Fri 30-Apr-21 13:03:55

It is indeed a very peculiar practice tidyskatemum. I'm surprised that it isn't illegal.
In fact, is it actually legal?

Hithere Fri 30-Apr-21 14:55:39

Ear piercing in babies, while I do not agree with it, is a ver common practice in many countries.

Child abuse... not sure at all.
Many customs can be considered to be child abuse if you are not used to them.
I can give examples if needed.
