Always Think Twice About Naming A Child.

I think parents should write the initial letters of their proposed names for their child, just to see if it spells anything strange.
When I was training in the police force we had a sergeant who's names were Thomas William Arthur Tate!

I knew a P.C. whose initials were P.C.!

A lad at school Stuart Plum was always called Stewed Plum.

Ah yes, the initials thing I knew someone whose initials were P.I.G. Her parents only realized after the birth was registered.

My Nan had a friend called Coronation Street, born on Coronation day in 1902.

I was at primary school with Ivor Payne and later at grammar school with Crystal Dimond.Her sisters were called Pearl and Ruby.
When my Dd was at secondary school, her form teacher told the class that they had to be very grown up and kind when a new pupil joined the form on the following day because his name was Chester Draws.They all waited expectantly for this new kid to turn up---it was a wind up by their teacher!

I used to work for a Colonel De’ath. We were all prepped in advance! We had an American friend called Joe King. He used to roll his eyes when anyone came up to him said “Hello, you must be.......”.

People react differently to their unusual names. I have one friend who was unhappy because her unusual name made her conspicuous, and another who was delighted that hers did. Why do children now have to have hyphenated names? Are they meant to sound 'posh'? Some names I'm not sure if the parents want to be different, or just can't spell?

I have an unusual first name which can be shortened and wasnt keen as a teenager however I love it now. When I was buying a new mobile a few years ago the young lady asked for my name. How lovely she replied why didnt my mum call me that. But as someone else remarked when you have an unusual name you get remembered which isn't always an advantage.

I knew a midwife who was Nurse Genders and I went to school with a girl whose surname was Spendlove. I wonder why her parents hadn't changed that by deed poll?

A local councillor in this area was called Dick Small, and I once had to write a caption for a photo where the child was called Amber Gambler. When I was expecting my son, my hospital consultant was called Dr Boddy!

I knew of 2 brothers called Wayne and Lee King.I have heard of 2 Theresa Green’s and one had a sister Patricia P Green!

I am always baffled at Richard Richards type names WHY why couldn't their parents have though of another name?

I have relatives (deceased now) called Richard Richards, William Williams and Edward Edwards. It was a family tradition although I would have thought this had died out by now. Often the oldest son was called the same as the father.

I have a very long list of funny names collected from my past employment in the 1970s. Some of my favourites were:
Kui Chui, Zsa Zsa Czap, Fat Cow Chow, Myra Smellie Dick, Greville Grubb, Cliff Hanger, Daisy Roots. I'm afraid Shitlaxtif Patel obviously had a very different meaning for the parents as to what we see.
