Nicknames for neighbours

Growing up, we had a neighbour always peeking through the nets and to this day she is called Fa na ka pan. Another lady was a gossip and called Fanny Alice...no idea why.

Over the years we've had a Beavis and Butthead (they were awful) and a couple we called The Elvises (because they played Elvis a lot rather loudly.) We've had a Fat Jean (who really was very fat, but a nice lady.) We currently have a Wurzel (don't ask!) and a "him next door" because we don't like him and we don't know his name.

Miss World because she always had curlers in.
Paddy because he was Irish
The Gnomes - because the whole family looked a but like garden gnomes.

I am sure they had names for me as well!

We were both brought up to consider nicknames rather rude if applied to adults, so we refer to the neighbour's by name.

If the DH is still in doubt, I identify neighbours as L. C's owner, C being L's cat, or P. J's (J is P's dog) owner, as we both tend to be better at recognising the neigbours' cats and dogs than the neigbours themselves.

We live in a small cul de sac with only 10 houses. At one point some years ago 3 houses were occupied by men called Ron, John and Don. My husband referred to them as Da Doo Ron Ron, Da Doo John John and Da Doo Don Don! Ron has since moved but the names still stick for the other 2.

My children inexplicably named the man next door 'Barbara'. He is very nice but it is very hard not to call him that to his face!

The guy round the corner we call Elsie because the business name on his van begins with the letters LC.

Nick the Greek, as opposed to Nick the son in law, Three Z's, he is Polish with three Z's in his unpronounceable name, The Mad Cat Woman, named herself(!),

I am now in a different location, but my previous neighbour was nicknamed Vladimir Putin. He looked like him and acted like him.He moved in and managed to dominate everyone. He was loathed.

We gave one of our neighbours the nickname POD (meaning prophet of doom). Whenever we chatted with him he had nothing nice to say about anyone or anything. Glad he’s moved away.

Husky man as he walks his husky past our house twice a day. Green coat man,also goes by two times a day with his dog and is never without his green coat.
Hairy nose man, looks like long grass growing down his nose!
Backpack lady, never seen without it and she isn’t going shopping as we live nowhere near a shop,it looks empty.

Love these nicknames, have laughed at them all.
Sadly, as I know all my neighbours by name they don’t have nicknames, except for one little lady who doggedly goes for a walk around the block three times a day. She’s recently got herself a wheelie walker so she’s now Mrs Trolley.
Mind you, I’m thinking of getting one myself so I wonder if I’ll be given a nickname.

We have, Super Mario, Ferret Man, Scrag End, Bob the Knob and Bumfun Betty, to name a few x

Lilo Lil an older lady who wears lots of leopard print and bright clothes. Always full makeup on. She is nice.
The Drug Dealers when they first moved in taxis were always pulling up. Stopped after a couple of weeks but name stuck.
The Lottery winners, 20 odd years ago they won half a million on lottery.
All nice people.

We have one neighbour we call "Elvis" as he is always singing when in his garden. Unfortunately, his wife is called the "fishwife" as she seems to spend most of her time moaning and shouting at him and the kids!!! We also have a neighbour who had quite a bad weight problem so he had his stomach stapled but has now put all the weight back on (and more!!) so he is called "fatman,thinman,fatman"!! I wonder what, if anything, our neightbours call us ...

Top Cat - fussy old lady whose initials were TC.

In our first house, located on a baby-farm - we didn't fit in - we had Trendy Girl, who did hairdressing in her front room, and Square Face, because his was.

Friends who lived at the end of a mile-long private drive through woodland had The Neighbours From Hell for a while.

DW Ashcombe lives in a flat overlooking a lovely park much used by dog-lovers. One particular mature lady, who generally has two or three dogs on leads, has an exaggerated lordosis or similar, resulting in her being Mrs No-Shape. She is a thoroughly charming, well-spoken person on the occasions we have said hello.

Mostly our neighbours are lovely (but not the woman next door!!)

Bob the Builder, as when we moved in our neighbour fell off a small roof and broke his arm. The gatekeepers, as everytime they go out in the car they close and lock the gates, even if its only for 5 minutes. Finally the stalker, because he always hide behind the wall if he sees us in our drive.

Wales is notorious for nicknames, too few surnames. Dave the Train, Bob the Fire, Glenys Boogy-boo, John the Farm. But Dickie Bungalow didn’t live in a bungalow, there was nothing upstairs.

We have the ‘the old fashioned couple’ they are young but don’t use electricity if they can do chores manually. Dress old for their years.

Ape - nuff said, luckily she's only here about 2 weeks a year and a complete pain.

Darling Buds of May - farming family with hundreds of broken down cars, agricultural machinery, dogs etc etc on their tumbledown property.
The Stalker, seemed to hang around the doctor all the time.

When my Mum had Dementia there was Mrs Next Door, Mrs end house and Mrs Upstairs. I thought it was quite clever of her.

We have Mr. Crinkly dog - because his dog is. Floosey bird - she used to constantly strut her stuff. John boring - doesnt often speak. 'Them' - family across the road. Everyone is ok though and we have no issues.
