I wanted our daughter to have my name as her middle name but my husband (now ex!!) said he'd "never liked it".

What a clown ?!

We had more or less agreed on our baby names.

When DS was born, he arrived quite quickly and DH missed the birth. He came in to see me, I was still in the delivery room, and I was writing relevant info on a scrap of paper, (time, weight, names etc) for him to tell family as I knew he would forget it all.

When I wrote the names, I said “……first name), that’s right?” and DH agreed. Then I said “……second name?”
DH said, “Oh, I really don’t like that”.
I said “Oh, please, please, I really want it”.

“Oh, ok” DH said, and that was it.

Both my daughter’s names are family names through the generations, my family ! And both my granddaughters second
names are family names through the generations, yes my family ?

Going back to Harry’s extended paternity leave, I was queuing at the Co Op this morning, and glanced at the Sun’s front page on the newspaper rack. Can’t remember exact wording, but the gist was that for 5 months we would all be spared a lot of earache!

Worrying, they won’t be saving the world for five months ?

But what about the book launch?

Oh, I thought the picture was Lili in a tutu, quite advanced with her ballet, but I think it’s Archie and Harry doing a duet.

How inspiring thought I, I might just try such a sentiment on my other half. So apropos of him getting some broken skin on hands though over enthusiastic pruning, on returning from Sainsbury's earlier today, I said "I've bought you some Savlon because you make my heart go pump! pump!" ........ all I got was a withering look and a "I can't put that in a sandwich"

If I told anyone my heart’s going pump! pump! they’d ring for an ambulance. ?

I think she rather liked Paris!
It's a classic name that never seems to date although I don't know many very young ones at the moment.

Yes, although it was BigBertha who said it was her daughter's name.
I should have said.

One of mine has my mother's middle name. My mother was astonished when I picked it and said she'd never liked it and I didn't realise until recently that DD doesn't like it either.
It's biblical, one of King David's wives.

I do though. Should we all be allowed to choose another name than the ones our parents lumbered us with?

I read that as ‘very fond of shops’, in which case Paris is entirely appropriate

For our first DC, we went through the baby name books, ticking the ones we liked. Once I’d vetoed most of his, we were left with a longish short list, that I we chose from.

We couldn’t agree on DC2’s, until we spotted the perfect name on a gravestone, of all places. It wasn’t on either of our lists, but I still love it.

DC3 was definitely going to be Adam, till a neighbour chose the name for her newborn a few days before DS arrived. Out came the books again, and surprise, surprise, again my name won. You’d know why if I told you what his favourites were.

They all three have a traditional family name as well.

Sorry but no! Can you imagine being called Bath for short.
And I have met a few dogs called Sheba. ?

We do have a poster called Bathsheba I think.

Shame - not that I would have had the courage to use it on mine!

I don't know if it's already been mentioned (I haven't RTFT yet)
but I heard on Radio 4 yesterday that Harry asked HRH years ago if he could use the name for his future daughter

When we first started talking about baby names ( on earnshaws thread), I asked, if in your experience, men actually have that much say, or hold strong opinions, about children's names? I know that it's a sweeping generalisation - but I'm genuinely interested.
In your experience, how did you decide on your children's names?

We both had equal say and veto power on names.

My name choice was chosen for first child, his for second. Very democratic, very equal. Was similar with most of our friends.

“pump! pump!” Wouldn’t some folk think of that as “fart! fart!”? ?

The Palace has released a statement saying that Harry did not speak to the Queen about the name.
