So before setting off on today’s hike, I have applied a full face of make up.
Husband waiting impatiently as we should have left ages ago.
My excuse, well you never know who you might meet.

Am I the only one?

Hope springs eternal….! ? ?
Looking good though - you might sprain your ankle (or break a nail) and need rescuing by a fit young paramedic……..

You look very nice Sago. Oh yes. I don't even go to the corner shop without make up. It's a habit!

Tizliz Wed 03-Nov-21 11:10:42

I haven’t worn any makeup for over 20 years. When our son got married 10 years ago I debated whether to buy some but OH said that I don’t need it (they don’t understand do they), so I went bare faced. It wasn’t my day it was my dil and she looked lovely.

As a Semi Retired Staff Nurse and of course with mask wearing, I only wear my Lppie etc when going out or days offxx

glammanana Wed 03-Nov-21 11:16:50

I always wore full make-up when at work it was part of my "uniform" for the day.
Now every day I apply tinted BB cream to give me colour and moisturise my skin for the day,at the moment I don't ware eye make-up as I am having treatment on my eyes and have to be very careful.

You look great but not for me, I wear a little for occasions but just a lick of pencil, mascara and lipstick but you’d hardly know it was there.

VioletSky Wed 03-Nov-21 11:19:57

I look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards and the only thing on my face is blue and magnolia paint

Calistemon Wed 03-Nov-21 11:23:54

I found it quite liberating not to wear makeup all the time as a mask hides the wrinkles and there is no point in wearing lipstick.

Yesterday, going out for lunch, I did wear a little makeup as we went to England and it's difficult to eat lunch wearing a mask anyway.
I look worse with eye makeup than without apart from a little mascara on my rather short and sparse eyelashes.

I wouldn't put out bins out unless wearing make-up; I swim in make-up. Why? Because I look bloody awful without it.

Kate1949 Wed 03-Nov-21 11:27:49

Me too Boz (I'm sure you don't). I even put lipstick on when I wear my mask! confused

Calistemon Wed 03-Nov-21 11:29:40

I do use blusher because I look washed out without it, but not to put the bins out!

Urmstongran Wed 03-Nov-21 11:35:46

You look really nice Sago. I’m childminding and it was door-to-door in the dark & will be going home later so I’ve gone ‘au naturel’ today. Hmm. Not the best look as I catch myself in one of the mirrors here!
?

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 03-Nov-21 11:36:28

Yes every day. Taupe eyeshadow, fine line of black liner and pink tinted lip balm. Without it I disappear and as Boz said look bloody awful. And a quick squirt of what we called ‘scent’ back in the day. Five minutes tops. I wouldn’t venture beyond the back door without it. We have horses behind us and I’m wary of frightening them …?

Boz Wed 03-Nov-21 11:39:37

I now wear a face shield so as not to spoil the lippy!
Make-up and clothes lift my mood.

You are not alone as I have wore makeup for most of my life. The makeup is for you and you alone.

Riverwalk Wed 03-Nov-21 11:56:52

Always lipstick - don't know why I bother as it never stays on, especially with masks!

Never a full face.

Georgesgran Wed 03-Nov-21 12:15:22

I wear make up every day. Takes 2 minutes to apply after my shower and before dressing. Moisturise then powder foundation, eye shadow, liner and mascara. Lip stick if I’m going out, and always a spritz of perfume - Brad Pitt might be on my bin wagon one day!

grannyactivist Wed 03-Nov-21 12:16:03

I've never worn much make-up, but I sometimes put lipstick on if I'm going out - and because I now have to look at myself when I'm on Zoom or Teams calls I try to make the effort then too. The only time I wear 'full face' make-up is if I think it's important to show someone I made the effort. E.g. for a wedding or special dinner party - or if I'm doing something special with my daughter.

mrsgreenfingers56 Wed 03-Nov-21 12:21:35

Always put full make on every day. Feel so much better and look better with it. Often look at someone and think oh wish I could be let loose on you with some make up and you would look so much better! A lot of women looked washed out and no bringing out of their best features.

jaylucy Wed 03-Nov-21 12:25:26

I have only just started wearing make up when I go out again - don't bother when at home.
Anyone have any suggestions for make up that stays in place even after wearing a mask ? I have found that when taking your mask on and off, when on the bus, in the shops etc that more ends up on the inside of the mask than on my face !

Visgir1 Wed 03-Nov-21 12:28:06

I have a daytime "Face" and a evening going out Face... You go girl fully agree.

Boz Wed 03-Nov-21 12:35:54

Some magazine did an article about foundation (or base coat as it is now called) and found the cheaper ones are ok but haven't the lasting power of the dearer brands. I tried a Primark once, as a matter of interest as it was only £2.50. It was very light and liquidy but my face didn't drop off!
These days I stick with Laura Mercier base coat as it last all day and is waterproofish when swimming (I swim like a crocodile with face above the water). I think Clarins do nice products and is, I believe, worn by the Queen.
I could rabbit all day on make-up. Sorry.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 03-Nov-21 12:49:11

Oh I could rabbit all day too Boz! I love makeup and couldn’t survive without it. I’m afraid I can’t advise re foundation/base as I hate the look and feel of it on me. Tried loads and gave up every time. Sometimes though I use some face primer (Look Fabulous Forever or Clarins) to blur the lines and pores and both stay on well.

I don’t understand when people say that they put makeup on for themselves and not other people. Unless you are continually looking in a mirror it is not the wearer that sees it so surely it is for the other people that are looking at you.
