Angela Rayner as Deputy Prime Minister God help us 🙏

What do you think?

BlueBelle Sun 20-Aug-23 13:45:57

The snobs on here are remarkable you couldn’t get anyone more uncouth than the Etonian Johnson his language around racism, omg , his whatsit (I won’t use the word ) up the wall, didn’t he bring his then girlfriend into number 10 (shakes head in despair) but because Angela Reynor has a full on accent and is not afraid to speak her mind she s persona non grata
Holds head in despair

I think that Yvette Cooper or Rachel Reeves would make a good Leader of the Labour Party. I also like Ed Balls although he is no longer an M.P.
Unfortunately there are not many M.P.'s with any integrity nowadays, it was so different years ago when we looked up to such people. Perhaps their secrets were better hidden, who knows?

I like Angela.

Today's politicians are so bland.

Angela isn't bland.

maddyone Sun 20-Aug-23 13:48:07

Either Jess Phillips or Evette Cooper would be a huge improvement.

Nannarose Sun 20-Aug-23 13:48:32

Angela Rayner is not uneducated at all. She did a lot of education as an adult, and values true education highly.

maddyone Sun 20-Aug-23 13:48:51

Oh yes, also Rachel Reeves.

maddyone Sun 20-Aug-23 13:54:44

What education is that Nannarose?

Nannarose Sun 20-Aug-23 14:02:05

She trained in social care, including learning British Sign Language at college, and she trained in negotiation as a Trades union representative.

maddyone Sun 20-Aug-23 14:06:51

Not sure that I’d call that a lot of education but clearly we all have different ideas of what constitutes a lot of education.

Boris Johnson wasn’t bland.See the flaw in your thinking?

I do have a sinking feeling about Angela Rayner in a top position and bet a lot of people do too.Yvette Cooper is my choice but the very left wing will make sure Rayner gets the job.Starmer tried early on to demote her but it didn’t work.

Glorianny Sun 20-Aug-23 14:14:57

Since 1957 only 3 Prime Ministers have not been educated at Oxford.
If we take the last 4 you realise how poorly these educated people perform- Liz, Boris, May, Cameron. How on earth does education show you will do a good job? Let's have someone with real life experience instead.

Megslotts Sun 20-Aug-23 14:17:11

Brilliant somebody normal for a change! Don't be a snob about someone's lifestyle. Far better equipped than the rich idiots running so far. I'd much better someone who knows some sort of normality than someone who eats from a silver spoon. I could say far worse. I hate the rich b******s running this country with no idea of real life.

Megslotts Sun 20-Aug-23 14:18:19

AGREE!!

You are wrong oreo

Starmer May decide not to have a deputy PM. But in any case it will be his choice alone.

Oreo Sun 20-Aug-23 14:26:47

I don’t believe I am wrong Whitewavemark2 tho it’s his choice to make as PM I think pressure will be piled on from the left to make Raynor his deputy.

Louella12 Sun 20-Aug-23 14:30:09

I quite liked Boris as well, oreo

So no flaw in my thinking at all.

westendgirl Sun 20-Aug-23 14:30:10

I think Angela Rayner does not deserve the catty remarks by some posters. What do some of you mean by " a lot of education "?. Angela Rayner may not have gone to private school or university but she is a very hard worker , who does her best to get things done. Why look down your noses at someone being trained in social care, and negotiation , having learned sign language .?Look what we have at present. Most of the Cabinet are in jobs beyond their capability. We have a Home Secretary who is not fit for purpose, and is only there because of politics and and the P.M .' desire to keep the right wing on his side. Snobbery in the extreme.

I think a lot of people underestimate how strong minded Keir is. He’ll choose the deputy that he thinks will be best for the party and the country.Mind you, I think Angela’s been brilliant at PMQT when she’s stood in for Starmer.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 20-Aug-23 14:34:27

Pressure from MPs yes but not as you suggested that Raynor would be a done deal. If it doesn’t suit Starmer it won’t happen.

Starmer has a strength of character that will ensure that he gets what he wants - look at the way he has dealt with anti-semitism in the party as well as party discipline.

Starmer intends to win the election, and become a reforming PM. He will choose only those who will help him in this ambition.

Maremia Sun 20-Aug-23 14:36:05

Ilovecheese...'that ship has sailed'...good one.
Training for social services, learning BSL and training as a union rep, do not count as education? Are we having a game of 'spot the snob'?
FYI, that press story, about Raynor flashing her pants in Westminster, was shown to be a fabrication.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 20-Aug-23 14:39:53

No one ever mentions Peter Kylie - I reckon he is a strong contender for a lot of senior posts. He works incredible hard, is always on top of his brief, and makes his Tory equivalent look a fool.

Am not sure that Starmer is a strong character. If he was then
Angela Raynor wouldn’t be in the position she is now.He tried to demote her and caved in to pressure to keep her.
