If I go back to an ancestor in the 17th Century and then follow the descendants of his brother up to about 1900, I reach another famous cricketer. He played for Sussex and for England, and also played football for England, as well as playing other sports and standing (unsuccessfully) for election to Parliament.

Oh, and he was once offered, but turned down, the throne of Albania..

I'm going to name my claims to fame 😃. I'm descended from Captain Edward Herbert, who commanded several ships under Admiral Rodney and fought the French in Martinique and grabbed the Virgin Islands for GB.

I am also connected by repute to William Blake, artist/poet/mystic but since he had no children I don't know quite how.

I said no, but if we’re spreading the net to include inlaws and love affairs, I can throw in a rock musician with a number 2 hit, a veteran sportswoman who broke several world records, one of the most famous names in the theatre industry, a renowned children’s author, a character they wrote a well-known song about, and a great train robber. I haven’t met any of them, not even for a quick dance. We could have a great fantasy dinner party though.

One of my cousins was the drummer in a very famous band in the seventies, he still plays now, but only as a hobby. Coincidentally, our grandson started playing drums at the age of five, and is very talented, maybe it runs in the family.

My Mum was a very famous name in her Trade Union, and was the scourge of the Tory party. She was quite a firebrand, but mellowed with age and retirement.
In my early twenties I dated a very well known actor, we were talking about settling down together, but he got a chance to go to Hollywood, and I didn't want to go. He was eleven years older than me and our priorities were different at that time. We stayed in touch though, and remained friends. He was definitely the best looking man I ever dated, absolutely gorgeous! Sadly, he died almost ten years ago.

When I worked in central London I had lots of famous patients . Actors , musicians, broadcasters, singers and dancers. I used to get free tickets to shows and concerts .

My MILs cousin was married (2nd marriage) to the grandfather of one of the Strictly Professionals who won the glitter ball few years ago.

Thanks to the magic of Ancestry, I know I'm related to a Lib Dem Life Peer (3rd cousin, I'm sure he doesn't know about me!) He got himself into a bit a of scandal (no, nothing juicy ☹️) and apparently has since retired from active politics.
