What do you think of Mary Earps being SPOTY?

Well done Chardy, for that measured response to BridgetPark's ludicrous rant about the BBC and sport (copied here >>> "Is no one else sick of the self-indulgent nature of these awards, promoted and run in totality by the BBC, for the BBC, in such a self-congratulatory manner, and the fact the the licence payer is funding the whole thing? That's one of the daftest comments I recall on this site, as logically then, the BBC should put out NOTHING, as even the most popular shows have viewing figures that are a minority of the overall population (and that would apply to ALL broadcasters of course).

BBC is still by far the most popular TV, viewing figures on average double that of ITV, who are miles ahead of anyone else. Channels like Sky and Netflix have numbers so small you could easily miss them!

Soc media regularly gets comments about say, Strictly ("I don't like it, nobody I know likes it, so why is it on . . . .blah blah, BBC, waste of money, blah blah"). This totally overlooks that BBC (& all channels) are trying to put on a balanced set of output to appeal to a range of tastes. Oh, and Strictly, on the numbers, is one of the most popular shows on offer.

I'm advised that sport on the BBC, if you added up ALL the assorted hours of TV, and radio, would be a tiny subset of the hours they put out. Oh, and apparently the "Question of Sport" show has just been shelved, after umpteen years, due to falling viewer numbers, so they do take notice?

Any list of fav shows that anyone put on here could likely be criticised because parts of it are not to everyone's taste, life's like that! I quite like the "Sewing Bee" show (despite the most recent presenter!!) but I'm sure plenty of non-sewers wouldn't be keen? I've even seen people moaning about David Attenborough, as the shows sometimes have "insects nobody cares about" or "places nobody will go". Ye gods . . .

I’ve nothing against Mary Earps who won the public vote fair and square, but it seems a bit limited to have two England women football players as winners in successive years. Not much for Welsh, Scottish or N Irish viewers to cheer for. BBC is supposed to a national broadcaster.

What, in particular, stands out to you in its content that makes you say it's very left wing?

I'm genuinely curious- because there appear to be many people who feel it is rather cautious of running foul of the government of the day, and sticks to a somewhat 'bland' middle-of-the-road presentation.

I wouldn’t have voted for her because I’m not interested in football. But the majority are and voted for her and she won and I’m happy with that. As for Joey Barton, never heard of the odious little man!

I voted for her. Love Mary! As for that Barton bloke, he’s just a jealous misogynist, courting publicity for his failed ‘career’.

In my world, Joey Barton may well be 'male' but as far as being a 'man', he's sadly lacking!
He's not being judged by association either, he made several ridiculous claims in 2005, 'my brother wasn't even there at the time', my brother would never do such a thing', 'my brother attempted to stop the attack', 'my brother is completely innocent' etc.
None of his claims were true, and the entire family were already well known to the Police, and had been troublemakers, thieves and thugs for many years before their crimes escalated to murder.
There is nothing at all honourable about Joey Barton!

I live in Wales but would have voted for Mary Earps or any of the Lionesses because I think they're all an inspiration to young girls throughout the country and encourage them to get out and participate in sport.
They are far better behaved than the men, too.

Whilst the BBC is popular in terms of viewers compared to say ITV the decline in viewing figures has been consistent over the last few years and I cant imagine that changing.

Among the many complaints I saw on line about a female footballer winning was a choice one from a man moaning that she won because women voted! So that puts us in our place! Presumably we should go back to the days when, no matter what what the subject was, we just voted the way our husbands told us to.

Do you consider that all male offenders....wife beaters, rapists, sexual predators, paedophiles, murders etc are male but not men? Does the same criteria apply to the females and the category women?

BBC left wing and woke. Not particularly in my opinion.
Viewing figures are falling generally as modern tastes change.
We are lucky to have the BBC. It's envied in some countries.
