I haven't had a toilet brush in years. They give me the creeps with all sorts of grot sticking to the stained bristles. I use a single use, disposable cleaning pad which attaches to a long handle. The best way is to snap on the rubber gloves and with a non-abrasive cleaning pad get into all the nooks and crannies.

What about your guests? Or any visitor using the cloakroom?

All the more reason to clean the loo after they have gone home with a disposable pad and not a brush.

It was for sale by the way, I wasn't inspecting one in their loo!

lets look at it from the other end, so to speak. You use the loo, you leave brown marks in it. If you have diarrhea or similar and the staining is extensive. What do you do to hygenically clean the loo if there is no brush?

Why is having a brush in a wc, whose only purpose or use is to clean the loo 'unhygenic'. I am not aware that people might regularly scrub their hands with it, clean the floor, or use if for some other purpose because they do not realise that it is a loo brush.

Like others, mine is dunked in bleach.

What do they have to endure whilst staying for a few days or if, whilst making a quick visit, they use the cloakroom? Are you happy for them to be embarrassed? I would not want to stay in someone’s house and be unable to clean the loo as necessary.

We use the silicone brushes, I flush them which cleans them completely unlike a brush, then spray with Flash bleach spray. They stay clean.

I find it doubles up as a good back scrubber before I use it for the loo before popping into the dishwasher.

We have 3, one for each loo.
I can’t see what’s wrong with them, and I wouldn’t want anything that needs disposable refills - yet more throwaway rubbish for landfill.

We use the silicone ones. They are great and look more hygienic than bristle brushes.

Surely if they go down the loo then they're as contaminated as the old fashioned type?

This thread is hilarious! What do you do, if a visitor, having had an ‘upset stomach’ and not having a toilet brush handy? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I just get the cheapest and out it goes once it starts to stain.

I have four toilets (used to have five!) and they each have a toilet brush. Three of the toilets are used by houseguests and visitors, some of whom would be mortified if they were unable to clean up if necessary after using the loo.

I have a silicone one. Does the job. Gets cleaned. I’d find it quite disgusting to be without one!

Me too. However, if we happen to visit someone who doesn’t have a toilet brush in their loos/bathrooms, I suggest we pack one in preparation! However, if it has been used, don’t re-pack it! 😳

Toilet brush owner here, renewed frequently!! I tried the silicone ones but they seemed to be scratching the enamel.

Toilet brushes are disgusting.

If you have an unfortunate incident you can clean up with loo roll.

The Hotel Inspector lady, sorry can't recall her name, is not a fan of them either.

I'm surprised so many here are in favour of them!

I got rid of mine when I found my daughter (Down Syndrome) brushing her hair with it! Have used rubber gloves, bleach and cloths since.

Is her firm using one of those brush-type thingys with detachable head ?
I have considered one of those but wondered if the detachable head schtick is just a way of generating more income for the manufacturers and at the expense of our household budget.

They can't use nothing, surely ?

Bleach doesn't work as well in hot water as it does in cold apparently so save the energy in boiling the kettle.

I use a toilet brush and the holder has cold water and green bleach in it - don't use chlorine bleach any longer. The solution is changed regularly and the loo brush is super clean and germ free.

Aren’t our mobile phones more germ ridden that our toilets?

Yes, rumour has it they are along with door handles, tv remotes.
