Do you own a toilet brush?

We have 3, one for each loo.
I can’t see what’s wrong with them, and I wouldn’t want anything that needs disposable refills - yet more throwaway rubbish for landfill.

The pads are disposable, but pulped paper, so I assume they don't linger in landfill. I put them in the household waste bin to be on the safe side, but wouldn't expect them to be still lurking with the nappies in 500 years.

Ofcourse I have a toilet brush - how else do you clean the loo - after I clean the loo, I pour a couple of cups of bleach in the toilet and leave the brush in there for an hour or two (I live alone) - I also put bleach in the toilet brush holder - I’m mad about bleach - I sprayed my shower cubicle with bleach, after my shower this morning- the grout comes out sparkling white - I do this once a week or so

if we happen to visit someone who doesn’t have a toilet brush in their loos/bathrooms, I suggest we pack one in preparation!

Well we have the silicon variety - in fact two replacements arrived this week. Bowel cancer and chemotherapy frequently cause bad tummy experiences. What would you do to clean “explosive” events? These can happen numerous times a day. Do we tell guests please ignore the state of the loo!! But fashion says brushes are no longer acceptable. Really.

fartooold, I once found my 4 year old dd trying to brush her hair with the loo brush in the bathroom of our hotel room. 😱

I haven't had a toilet brush in years. They give me the creeps with all sorts of grot sticking to the stained bristles. I use a single use, disposable cleaning pad which attaches to a long handle. The best way is to snap on the rubber gloves and with a non-abrasive cleaning pad get into all the nooks and crannies.

I'm with you, Sarnia, having worked on long stay psychiatric wards as a teenager in the late 60's with no rubber gloves(!)...... bodily fluids hold no fears for me... However DH is a fan of the brush cleaner so I bought him an expensive one which promised to go round corners and be self cleaning.... It lied. The base of the bristles were permanently disgusting within a week. It went in the bin. I do use rubber gloves now though!

Mine are silicone and I hold them in the flush having whizzed them around the bowl. Nothing sticks to them.

I’ve had a good laugh at this thread, some very funny posts! I have 3, 3 bogs and do the same as most of my prehistoric comrades with bleach. I like to keep any shxt in my life at arm’s length.

I’m not sure what part of a silicone brush would scratch? They’re very efficient then, once they’ve had a rinse under the flush, I wedge them under the seat to drip dry so there’s no drippy mess in the holder!

which kills germs in a very small area for a very short time.
Germs will always be with us,
bleach ends up going down the sewers and is then classified as "not now MY problem"
How many dead rivers and streams are we now seeing, not to mention the amount of fish we don't see any more?
Next time you poor acid down your sinks and drains etc,
think to yourself am I contributing to polluting the Worlds Oceans?

If you use rubber gloves where do you keep them because they will have similar bugs on them as loo brushes?

No one needs a toilet brush a quick wipe with loo roll and a bit of eco friendly bathroom spray is all that’s needed.

Yes, in a lovely black ceramic cat-shaped holder. The toilet doesn't feel clean unless I've given it a good scrub. Much better for the environment than those dissolving tablets.

Excellent post. I totally agree with you.

We live in a hard water area. Little rubs with loo paper don't even begin to deal with that, a good scrub with a brush and a scouring agent work much better.

Aldom and infoman so you literally only use a brush and water …no products at all?
Do you live in a hard or soft water area it makes a difference?

I have a silicone one for general cleaning, but skid marks are removed with a wad of toilet paper, wearing rubber gloves of course.

And this is why I use green bleach in place of chlorine bleach.

I’m puzzled by posters who say they clean the toilet bowl with loo paper. What about below the water level?

I live in a hard water area, but use a 5-year descaler in the cistern, which works a treat.

I'm beginning to think I'm blessed with very well behaved bowels. This pooping staining exploding just doesn't happen.

As for under the water line I'd suggest rubber gloves.

Watching 4 In a Bed episodes, the sight of a loo brush tends to fill most guests with horror.
