Do you own a toilet brush?

I use the silicone ones as well then clean as Foghornleghorn said. I disinfect them in the toilet bowl and clean the holder regularly.

When I was a child in the North people would hang their lavatory brushes out of the window, presumably to be refreshed by the rain and wind. I've not seen that recently.

I use the disposable pads clipped onto a long handle BUT after cleaning the loo I don't put it in the bin -yuk- I flush it down the toilet. It's made of impregnated paper and is always falling to pieces by then anyway.
The ones I buy are made by "Duck" BTW......

Still wondering about the 'use toilet paper to clean up as necessary' point. If you are in someone else's house and need to clean up below the water level what do you do? Do you have a pair of Marigolds in your bag?

Can someone tell me how the handle of the duck thing stays out of the loo?
And what happens to it between uses please?

I've got two toilet brushes but don't like them. I fancy those pads on sticks. And I do use bleach. I bought some gel type of cleaner recently and it was useless. Bleach can't be beat.
And I happen to like the smell.

Just about to google disposable toilet pads…..

To me, what is far more ‘disgusting’ than a toilet brush, is expecting anyone (especially any guest) to use their hand and loo roll in the bowl, to get rid of any ‘evidence’.

I would never do a poop in a someone else's house. I never have done and it will never happen.

Sometimes we've stayed with family for six or eight weeks.
I don't think I could hold on for that long
If I did, I'd need to go for colonic irrigation afterwards!

I too use the Toilet Duck brush and pads which are flushable and safe for a septic system. The thought of using a toilet brush fills me with horror - the residue stuck to the bristles and where would you rinse that off?! Wouldnt be hygienic in a sink etc. Main con of the pads are the expense but see it as more of a necessity than a luxury.

I don't use bleach as it would kill the bacteria in the septic tank. I use toilet brushes n eco loo cleaner.
I soak the brushes in bleach n put them out in the sun to disinfect with their holders. They look really ornamental by the back door!

Rinse it down the toilet, under the next flush.

Silicone ones here, residue doesn’t stick 😱.

In response the NotSpaghetti the handle of the Toilet Duck is pretty long - at least as long as a normal toilet brush. So you insert pad at clipper thing on end, swirl it round bowl to clean then declip and flush. Whilst the water scooting round in the flush I rinse the very end of the stick in the whirlpool of clean water coming along in the flush and replace in its little stand thing.

When I’m cleaning the toilet with the brush I finish off by flushing the brush in the toilet bowl. Then add bleach to the water in the bowl and leave the brush soaking in it for a few hours. Flush again before removing and replacing the brush in its clean holder.

So, Amazon reviews say that the handle of these disposable things has it's own holder, which you can attach to the wall!

We re-furbished our bathroom a couple of years ago, and installed a comfort height, rimless toilet.

Had never heard of rimless loos before this, but can recommend them. So much easier to keep clean.

I use Toilet Duck or similar down the loo at cleaning time, and wipe round everywhere with an old cloth. Any stubbornish stains I rub hard with loo paper, but they just don’t seem to ‘stick’ like they did on the old toilet. Must be a better enamel.

At the risk of TMI, before I use the loo for a number two, I put a couple of sheets of toilet paper down the front of loo, which helps keep things cleaner.

Purchased a toilet brush in fancy holder that matched the rest of the bathroom bits (thx Dunelm) but warned DH never to use it. For show only.

Don’t have many visitors, and those who come hopefully just do a wee!

Mine isn't the Duck one, it is a generic one I got on Amazon (for my sins). I don't flush the pads for the same reason as I don't flush wipes or anything other than loo paper and, er, biological matter. There is a small lined bin next to the loo, and the used pads go in there until they are removed (in the lining), which goes into the general waste bin with other bathroom detritus when the bathroom is cleaned - no 'yuk' necessary. The handle goes into the water and is rinsed with the flush, but doesn't come into contact with anything unpleasant - if it did (which would require some improbable contortions) it could be washed, as it is smooth plastic.
