Do you dislike wearing makeup as I do?

I don't wear makeup these days, I dislike the feeling of it on my face. I did allow makeup to be applied in the past when I appeared on TV programmes and films, however when I did some filming more recently I refuse to have it applied.

Some women put so much of it on it certainly doesn't improve their looks, and could damage their skin.

I only slap on a bit of blusher nowadays if I don’t people ask me if I feel ok as I look pale!

M0nica Thu 30-May-24 14:18:29

I wear it - or not - depending how I feel. I am really not bothered either way.

I imagine I would dislike it if I wore it so I don't. Never have. And it never seems to have mattered.

Wear a sunscreen or end up with skin cancer and a wrinkled up prune!

Indeed.

My moisturiser is 30, easy and done.

Once pre-cancer begins, one must be vigilant about SPF, or so I'm told. Better to have been vigilant prior, but anytime is better than never.

When does the "ending up like a wrinkled prune" start, purple?

I stopped wearing make up, apart from lipstick if we were going out, when we lived in the Far East. I found when I came home that I couldn’t go back to it, so apart from lipstick, I stopped wearing it altogether, though I wore some when my son got married. That was the last time. Up until fairly recently, I’ve always been told I had “young skin”. No more, I fear, but it doesn’t bother me a bit.

I'm not fussed one way or the other.
I wish I could wear mascara.

I wear a bit (not a lot) as it gives me a bit more confidence
isn't that sad?

I don't think its sad at all....I wear make up on a night out ....it makes me feel more attractive ...and thats a confidence thing too

I wear it if I feel like it for everyday, always for work and special occasions. I hate it plastered on.

Esmay Thu 30-May-24 15:06:20

I feel really naked without make up and my neighbour , who sees me most days always says that I look ill if I'm not wearing any !
It doesn't take me long to apply some mascara , smokey eye shadow and pencil in my sparse eyebrows (which I hate )
Lipstick and a face base take seconds .
If I'm going out to something special I'll spend more time .
I used to do theatrical make up for amateur productions so I'm fairly confident with cosmetics .

I always wear make-up, wore it every day during covid, and realise I have to re-learn techniques now that my hair colour and skin is different. Unfortunately, with the disappearance of the Department stores the beauty professionals have gone too, and there are no decent beauty products available locally with assistants to advise on colours and textures, other than Boots own products, which are OK.(just)

You can always take a vitamin D supplement but if you get skin cancer it can be fatal.

I’m assuming you mean the skin cancer could be fatal and not the vitamin D supplement.

MissAdventure Thu 30-May-24 18:01:01

My mum always wore lipstick, as she said it made her feel better.

I think the larger Boots stores have consultants for more than Boots brand makeup. I've seen consultants for Lancome, Estee Lauder, Mac (I think), Benefit, and a couple of others.

Large Boots stores have all the big brands that you can find in Department Stores, have done for many years.

I’ve really not worn make up much my entire life. I do wear very natural looking makeup for special occasions

soothed Thu 30-May-24 18:26:56

I just wear gentle makeup - a face full of makeup makes me feel cakey.

Yes, I apologise if badly worded. You can take a vitamin D supplement. Your only protection against skin cancer is either using a high factor sunscreen or staying inside, away from windows,

Whitewavemark2 Thu 30-May-24 18:32:28

I think that less is definitely more as you age, but skin care is very important including sun protection ( probably a bit late) but important.

Just had my eyes tested along with DH, both were told that cataracts are beginning, reason - sun - so sun glasses will be used at all times along side factor 50. Sunglasses slow the cataracts development.

I absolutely hate all make up! I’m 67 and not about to start experimenting. Ditto fake tan and nails. This is me, look the other way if it’s too awful.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 30-May-24 20:56:50

Maybe it would make you look better.

Iam64 Thu 30-May-24 21:05:54

I stopped wearing make up in my late twenties , in solidarity with the sisterhood
I very occasionally wear a light foundation as my skin is now weather beaten
I do cleanse tone and moisturise daily, as instructed by my mum
I do make up for weddings - 🌞

Sago Thu 30-May-24 22:21:09

I love make up, I probably spend far more than I should.
I am brand loyal to Bare Minerals for foundation and bronzers, I love Charlotte Tilbury for lips and eyes.
I can easily spend an evening looking at online tutorials and reviews.

BlueBelle Thu 30-May-24 22:35:31

I put my make up on every morning after I ve cleaned my teeth , whether I m going out or staying in, the same with my earrings always on in waking hours I don’t wear heavy makeup a light foundation, eyeliner, mascara, and lippy.
I only use Rimmel (cheap as chips) compared to what a lot of you pay and I stick to the same colours, I don’t use any creams or potions and have a fairly good skin

bluebird243 Thu 30-May-24 22:41:26

I never wear make up and never have.

I don't like it, don't like seeing it and don't understand it.

Natural faces are beautiful [to me].
