Sad news - It looks like Michael Moseley has been found

the only person that really knows what happened is no longer with us.Yes a very likeable man,sad for family.

They have said it's natural causes so if he had a heart attack or stroke his phone would have been of little use.

Except, as keeps being pointed out, his whereabouts could have been tracked.

I think I read that he arrived the day before so not acclimatized, and that the local authoritirs had even issued a warning. Seemed a rocky place to be going out on your own at 67 and in tremendous heat ....terrible loss.

Maddyone I too have a phone loathing husband. I try to make sure he always has his with him but using it is quite a different matter. I know it frequently gets left in the car and, even if it notifies him of a message, he doesn't bother to look, preferring to bring it home & get me to look. It drives me insane, the number of times I've pleaded with him to be more sensible about it! So frustrating. I hope the sad demise of Michael Moseley might make him realise a phone really might save his life.

It’s certainly hard to understand why anyone would want to do that.A sad waste of a life.

It's possible that he collapsed due to exhaustion in the extreme heat and died of dehydration. Poor man. I don't understand why he didn't stop and buy a bottle of water at the village he passed. Maybe he was already confused by the sun.

It's also a bit odd that, as he said he was going back to the house as he felt unwell, that nobody went with him. But hindsight is always perfect, of course.

I think that in the statement from his wife she said that he took a wrong turn. So presumably he didn't intend to trek over such rugged terrain.

Very very sad a lovely man indeed We can't know ever, yes a phone may have helped I agree you need your blood to climate. Said today in 2019 he went into very cold water in Cornwall and had symptoms like TIA but told it was a rare condition where you loose memory temporarily ( he asked if he had 4 children) seems the hospital dr said it happens through icy water or extreme heat. This was the suggestion if heat affected memory & took wrong turn possibly. So debating to be yards from people 🥲

Re your last paragraph Bluecat - that's exactly what I thought. It seems after being seen in town he went on to walk elsewhere which seems strange if he wasn't feeling well.

Oh how clever we could all be with the wisdom of hindsight! All we have are conflicting reports of the events of the day.
You have no evidence at all that his death was caused by, as you describe it dangerous over confidence
I am appalled by so many sneering, prurient comments which ignore all the good that this lovely man did in his too-short lifetime

Heatstroke can creep up on you very quickly - it happened to us and it has happened to other people I know. You have to be very disciplined and very afraid - don’t rely on early warnings because you won’t get any😐

...if he hadn't lost his way I gather it was much shorter route I pray he passed without much suffering he must have felt elated to see the marina within reach although utterly exhausted, goodness knows his feelings beforehand

I agree. I’m terribly upset by his death. Actually watched many of his programmes the other night when they popped up on catchup after I’d been watching something else. I feel I need to make sense of what happened or I won’t be able to watch his programmes or listen to his podcasts.

Yes very sad news about his death. My sympathies go to his family. He had a positive effect on many people , and his simple sensible ideas reminded us of ways that might improve our lives. What a good way to be remembered , as someone who tried to help people to improve their lives , and look for the best in people. May he rest in peace.

We're just back from Corfu and it was absolutely roasting some days. Our daughter got married out there on Thursday and it was a baking hot day - she actually said she felt as if she had got a touch of heat stroke just from standing on the beach and cliffs to have their wedding photos taken - it was so hot that the soles of her husband's shoes actually melted. So I can easily understand how this could have happened.

I dont think we should criticise Michael Mosley. Perhaps he left his mobile behind to help him unwind. As I understand it his walk wasn't pre-planned and he may have decided he didnt need the mobile on a water taxi and at the beach. If you are in the public eye the mobile is probably both a curse and a blessing. I seem to remember he suffered from insomnia and was probably trying to have a complete break to unwind. RIP Michael. I thought he was an amazing man.
