We are in our pj’s on the bed, tv on already! We’ve eaten our tea and are ssettled, ready. I’ve got a rosé wine poured it’s on my bedside table. We know how to live!

I’ve just peered over the balcony. The main road is empty! One lone cyclist, then a taxi passed. That’s the sum of traffic right now in usually busy Urmston. It’s like a ghost town …. So quiet! The bars up the road will be buzzing, just not the one below us as they don’t have TV screens and closed early to let their staff go to enjoy the game. Himself told me most of the bars are ‘ticket only’ tonight as on NYE!

What are YOU doing?

C’mon England!

LauraNorderr Sun 14-Jul-24 20:36:55

Recovering from two straight days of too many glasses of Pimms and very exciting tennis.
Eating a beetroot sandwich and drinking camomile tea, trying to decide whether I can stay awake long enough to join Orlin in front of the tv.
Maybe I’ll do one more sudoku before deciding.

As you can see, I have one eye on the football and the other eye on gransnet..🤓
On my Todd because my son and his girlfriend have gone to the pub to watch it, I’m afraid it will be far too rowdy for me, delicate little flower that I am 😂

Do the players get paid for representing their country at international competitions?

I don't think so, they may receive prize money (which is donated by the English team to charity) but are not paid so do not fall foul of any German employment laws.

Lamine Yamal is the Spanish player who turned 17 yesterday Shinamae

👍🏻

Why did they put it on so late then?

SkyBird Sun 14-Jul-24 20:41:55

Sat on the sofa at home in Spain. Cheering on England. It is very quiet here at the moment. Let's hope it stays that way.

keepingquiet Sun 14-Jul-24 20:46:43

In my PJs- glass of Malbec. Thinking at this rate it'll go to penalties. Gransnet more exciting! Come ooonnnn England!!!

crazyH Sun 14-Jul-24 20:50:03

Seems I haven’t missed much…

MayBee70 Sun 14-Jul-24 20:54:17

I may go for a walk in a bit. I often have to do this when England are playing.

Catterygirl Sun 14-Jul-24 20:54:33

One sofa each, in PJs, with vodka and mixers. Not into sport except Tom Daley dives. Neither is DH. Can’t miss this excitement though. Son has a bad cold and his partner is cooking mini kebabs. They will stay at home.
Come on England but Spain is our second home as all lived there for years.

Btw I believe one of the players just turned 17 yesterday. Did I hear right ?

Yes, I don’t know his name, but it’s the young Spanish player. He’s got blonde at the top of his hair…😎

Apparently he is not allowed to play as 17 year olds are banned from certain times of training so he was not eligible to play in the match, but here he is.

According to FIFA's rules, there is no minimum age stipulation for World Cup participation. Young people of any age can be called up, and it is not an issue. At club level, no one can sign a professional contract until they reach the age of 18, but in the international game you can represent your country at any age.
17 Jan 2024

But German Labour law states under 18’s cannot work past 8pm, €30,000 fine, which Spain are paying, so he can play, I think that’s right

Yellow card for England -

Curlywhirly Sun 14-Jul-24 21:15:09

We are currently in our cabin on a cruise ship. DH gutted that he can't get the match either on the ship TV or his phone! He's flicking between Sky Sport and BBC Sport to try and get any updates on the score. Our son is WhatsApping him with pics of him and our DGCs whooping it up in the local sports club watching the match on a huge screen. Fingers crossed for a win. 🤞

Jaxjacky Sun 14-Jul-24 21:16:51

Dreadful play from England

MayBee70 Sun 14-Jul-24 21:18:55

We’ve played badly from the start. If I go for a walk they might play better. It sometimes works.

V3ra Sun 14-Jul-24 21:20:48

We're in Lanzarote with our son and his girlfriend, in an Indian restaurant overlooking the beach.
The television is on but with the sound turned down and lovely music playing.
Suits all four of us 😊
