I know some of you especially further north have had a disappointing summer, but for me, this evening is affording the first glimpse of Autumn. And I’m loving it!
Darker, drizzling (don’t need to water the pots-yay!) and so much more comfortable.
Cup of coffee instead of iced water and light on to read my book by.
I know summer isn’t over, we are due some nice days , but we are moving into what I feel much more comfortable in.

Hope I won’t need my woolly drawers yet awhile.

Scottish Highlands, had to light the fire today, overcast, very windy and chilly again! Autumn is my favourite season, but probably not so this year as no summer to set me up for our long winters.

There’s an autumnal tang to the air gradually creeping in, I love those mellow days when the heat of the sun is less intense.
There was heavy dew this morning, plenty of blackberries in the hedgerows and the hawthorn trees are heavy with red berries.
I go with the flow nowadays, fretting about the seasons is futile (I do admit I don’t like the very hot weather), I must be mellowing in my old age!

While I do really enjoy proper UK summer weather (though preferably a max of about 27 deg) I do also love Autumn - September and October, and in fact the whole run up to 🎄. It’s January and February I’m not so keen on - though it’s better once the first spring flowers are out.

Beautiful again today smile

I'll know more if I venture out to the washing line.

Best to live in the moment, whatever the weather brings, otherwise you are wishing your life away. We were made to adapt and yes that is harder as we age but sloths have the right idea in the heat and so do creatures that live in caves

I am loving the weather right now, I get myself out early before it gets too hot, which is relative, come home have a shower, slip on a cool kaftan and am ready to enjoy and I mean enjoy, the rest of my precious day

First conker of the year, a nut fell off the tree this morning cracking the green protective outer and revealing the lovely russet tones of the chestnut itself.

Together with the primrose, I am getting all confused season wise.

Its glorious here today. smile

I am sorry Kathmggie. I hope this Autumn and Winter is kind to you.

A beautiful, warm sunny day, with clear blue skies and a gentle breeze. I’m having a gardening day with the three dogs for company (2 are my daughter’s). I loathe the short, dark days of Winter, as I love being outdoors.

Patsy70 Sat 17-Aug-24 15:28:58

So sorry, Kathmaggie. I hope you have family and friends around you. 💐xx

Kathmaggie, just read your message. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you find comfort from those close to you. Xx

Babs03 Sun 18-Aug-24 22:14:12

Really sorry Kathmaggie.
Hoping you continue to muddle through and have loved ones to help you xx

First night I put my summer duvet back on after sleeping with a sheet and thin quilt.
Hoping it is cool enough for me not to kick it off.
Am I strange in only being able to sleep comfortably when the room is cold?

Aldom Mon 19-Aug-24 07:11:24

Kathmaggie flowers Keeping you in my thoughts.
Babs03, I'm also someone who prefers a cool room and a cool bed.
I'm still sleeping with just a duvet cover over me and with a window open.
I enjoy all four seasons, but especially like a good spring and autumn.

I like to think that August is my time of harvest looking back on the year for my positive events - successful cataract op, allergy identified, getting to know after years what a good friend really is, a new/old hobby that has fired an interest in me, and the removal of 2 people I thought were pleasant but who turned out to be really horrible underneath. And, last but by no means least, my beautiful bee garden which just sings with bees on the salvia bushes, buddleia, and borage. Go bees!

I dread the thought of the dark nights. ☹️

Me too! And even worse are the dreary days when I need the lights on all day!

M0nica Mon 19-Aug-24 09:44:43

Kathmaggie It is early days yet, of course this autumn will be different, but hopefully there will always be happy memeories of autumns past.

YEs, even when the summer weather is disappointing, at least we get hours of daylight, which is so much better than gloom.

Sunlight, I think, is what very early spring is so lovely.

It's a different sort of nice day today.
Grey and overcast, but ideal pottering weather. smile

We had a young photographer around today, 20s I reckon, she was shooting stills for the new estate agent we hope will sell our house. She commented that everything was very autumnal and this afternoon; thick cloud cold wind and spots of rain was like November.

Not just us oldies
