this seems just crazy.

GagaJo Sat 09-Jan-21 12:05:28

It is fine to disagree with a post, but when it is the same people on several threads, doing the same thing aiming it at a POSTER instead, it is not on.

I know we are all stressed and anxious. But unkindness is beneath us.

Do you have no shame Poppyred?

Chewbacca Sat 09-Jan-21 12:09:26

I agree with you to some extent GagaJo, there was a very explicit example of one poster continually hounding and bullying another poster on another thread last night. Thankfully deleted now. Report if you have concerns.

GagaJo Sat 09-Jan-21 12:10:58

I know I should Chewbacca, but really, to trawl through threads doing a report each time... These are adult women.

lemongrove Sat 09-Jan-21 12:12:48

Exactly Chewbacca ?
I will certainly report comments if a poster goes too far, far better than long spats that go on and on.

janeainsworth Sat 09-Jan-21 12:13:01

We will have to agree to differ, Gagajo.
I don’t see how you can put a limit on the number of times you can disagree with what a particular poster has written, or police which other posters hold similar views, and also disagree with someone.

GagaJo

If a poster starts the same sort of threads all the time - anti brexit, anti government etc, ( or vice versa ) - then they are basically wanting an argument with people who think the opposite - that’s how forums work. If I didn’t like the answers I was continually getting from the same people, I’d stop starting controversial threads in all honesty. And I’m certain that if a thread was completely ignored the poster wouldn’t be happy, as quite often they are looking for a ‘heated debate’

I’m not talking about this thread in particular - just my general observations over many years on talk forums.

lemongrove Sat 09-Jan-21 12:15:56

I try to buy local, buy English and buy as many products as possible that are made in the UK. Nothing wrong with supporting UK firms when you can do.
I expect citizens of all other countries do much the same.

Callistemon Sat 09-Jan-21 12:18:35

I hope I'm not being unkind

Perhaps a tad exasperated? There is nothing much more to say about what is essentially a non-story.

But if we disagree, perhaps we should not post.

NannaJanie Sat 09-Jan-21 12:18:55

I'll be first in the queue when either vaccine is offered. If I had a preference, it would be the AZ, but only because my son took part in the clinical trials and it would be nice to have this one knowing he participated in its success.

GagaJo Sat 09-Jan-21 12:19:39

Kandinsky, NOTHING wrong with arguing about the TOPIC of a thread. But to turn to comments about the poster is not acceptable.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 09-Jan-21 12:19:42

I am fortunate to have a local butcher and farm shop for the majority of my fresh food purchases.

Anyone interested in the state of planet earth should consider food miles surely?

Wanting to support UK businesses is not xenophobic or nationalist.

Kandinsky Sat 09-Jan-21 12:19:59

GN needs to introduce a ‘hide poster’ option like most other forums have.
Problem solved.

GagaJo Sat 09-Jan-21 12:20:53

Poppyred, yes, I am inclined to vehemently disagree. But I hope I do not stoop to personal remarks.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 09-Jan-21 12:21:10

Taking the comments of 10 olde people as an example of the way 66 million of the general population think is quite ridiculous in my humble opinion!

Chewbacca Sat 09-Jan-21 12:25:24

Well indeed GrannyGravy13, but then we wouldn't have sensationalist headlines that provoke a knee jerk response would we? ?

Poppyred Sat 09-Jan-21 12:38:45

Kandinsky totally agree! ‘Hide poster option” would be bliss!

Galaxy Sat 09-Jan-21 12:48:58

I think that concept would be awful. It's very important to read and listen to people you disagree with.

Iam64 Sat 09-Jan-21 12:52:24

Or just skim read and dismiss !

Poppyred Sat 09-Jan-21 12:53:30

Really? Life’s too short!

Visgir1 Sat 09-Jan-21 12:54:26

Well if it has been published in the Daily Mail - it has to be true ! .....NOT!
I'm NHS staff ,the vaccination of all the staff is well under way. I'm getting mine on Monday.
Remember your local NHS / Primary sector is probably the biggest employer in you area? So...lot to do , plus getting these members of staff free to get their vaccines.
Regardless of which vaccine you get , you get protection, even if the second one is slightly delayed.

biba70 Sat 09-Jan-21 12:56:28

Well, so many more young friends have posted about this since- and the OP is very very mild. Best if I don't post some of the ones I've seen today who have been pretty damning and not mincing words about their DM reading mothers- some of them have had to take to drink.

Ggravy 'Wanting to support UK businesses is not xenophobic or nationalist.' - yes, I agree, totally, and said so above. Just depends how it is done and the reasons and thinking behind. And those young friends posting today have no doubt and stated the reasons quite clearly.

Galaxy Sat 09-Jan-21 12:57:24

Yes because sometimes poppyred you might be wrong and it's important to listen to others in order to work out what we think. Nobody is always right. It's very important to have the capacity to change your mind. I admire people greatly who do that and are able to say I was wrong.
