On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits. Plus a few others who make an occasional entrance and departure and that is fine too - All Welcome.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra. I am sure both Four and Shirley will tell you their strategies.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

So Onward and Downward ? in 2020 and beyond folks. Come and join us.

Lost 3 and a half pounds this week, the first decent loss in a week this year ?. I shall do a 2nd week of SP and see if I can lose the same again. I did miss my wine over the weekend but husband is on anti biotics till next Monday so he can't have a tipple either so you could almost say I came out in sympathy with him ?.

What a week you had whif, hope this weeks proves better for you.

Their is a C25K thread , I'm very tempted to have another go at doing that. Do any of you guys run or done the c25 k?

Have a safe week

NanKate Mon 04-May-20 06:22:49

Well done Shirley that’s a great weight loss. ?

Does the C25k really mean 25 kilometres or 2.5 kilometres ? My DH who will be 75 this month has taken up the Couch to 5k challenge to everyone’s surprise. He has down loaded the app and does the light jogging and walking routine every other day. I have to add is very slim and is not arthritic. Just a brisk then normal walk for me daily.

So many of my friends have mobility problems I am trying to slow down the ageing process by keeping my weight down and walking exercise.

Beechnut Mon 04-May-20 06:29:59

I’m a loser this week by 1. 3/4lbs. I am encouraged by that and want to be one again next week. I kept my promise to myself of buying no alcohol and biscuits until the end of April.

I don’t envy you with the squirrel Whiff, scampering away in your loft while you try to get some sleep.

NanKate Mon 04-May-20 06:33:03

Beechnut ?

Whiff Mon 04-May-20 07:03:14

Congratulations to Shirleyw and Beechnut on your loses. Thank you for all your support over my squirrel problem. Used to like seeing them in the garden never again. The pest controller called them posh rats. So far this is the only drawback to living in a bungalow roof is easier for the furry meance. Roofers are back today.

Have a good week everyone.

Shirleyw Mon 04-May-20 11:50:26

Thanks guys....

Well done beechnut

nankate...that's fantastic your husband starting the cto5k, it's good no arthritic problems, yes, its keeping average weight and exercising, or lots of movement everyday to keep joints supple ....he sets a good example

CocoPops Mon 04-May-20 18:20:09

Hi everyone, Hope you are all keeping well.
During lockdown I have only managed to maintain the weight lost.
I need to find the motivation to crack on and try and lose a bit more. I previously weighed in on the scales at the swimming pool which will likely remain closed all year (recently borrowed my daughter's scales).
I've ordered some bathroom scales online today and need to lose weight to jusify the expense!!

luckyrose62 Tue 05-May-20 09:30:14

A fail this week , I am fighting off a UTI so drinking a lot more weak squash than water, I really don’t like water, Is there a really good calorie counting site.
I just tried nhs.uk/calorie-count it didn’t work for me Thanks ,well done to all losers and for the others like me don’t give up

fourormore Tue 05-May-20 10:26:29

No one fails Luckyrose - you are retaining the extra water you are having to drink!
We all will get there - I, like so many of us including Cocopops, are simply 'maintaining' and considering we are trapped in this frustrating and depressing situation I think maintaining is pretty good!!! hmm
Well done to those who can shed a bit but don't give up fellow strugglers! flowers

MiniMoon Tue 05-May-20 10:45:00

My Monday weigh-in proved rather disappointing. My weight remains 10st 3lbs. It's been this for about six weeks with just very slight variations.

NanKate Tue 05-May-20 11:41:56

Keep going folks in these tricky times.

Rose have you tried 7 up free a lovely calorie free lemonade which I have 50/50 with water. It’s my go to drink since starting my healthy eating plan.

NanKate Tue 05-May-20 11:42:28

Sorry LuckyRose.

Beechnut Fri 08-May-20 07:06:14

Happy Birthday to your thread NanKate
Here’s a cake ?whether you have a piece is up to you ?

pipdog Fri 08-May-20 10:38:27

Can I join you all please? I need to lose at least 3st. I am unable to do much exercise because I have CFS and have more bad days than good energy wise, although I have been doing a bit of gardening over the last couple of weeks. I know I comfort eat more when I am tired, I think my body is looking for energy!!! I am going to try a low carb diet but tend to eat whatever is easiest when no energy so I think I am going to have to do a lot of planning and possibly batch cooking so I have something to grab when I need it.

Lollypolly Fri 08-May-20 11:40:02

Hello all, I would love to join the group please. I need to lose weight and exercise. All I have lost is my motivation and need some support or some way to challenge myself. I am under 5ft so every lb is noticeable. I was doing the fast diet but have lost my way a bit and like most during lockdown am drinking a bit more and most evenings.?

Keeper1 Fri 08-May-20 11:45:31

Hi,

Just found out about your group may I join in too. I would love to lose two stone. I lost a lot of weight 8 years ago doing Lighter Life but the weight is creeping back on or rather my hand keeps reaching for biscuits.

Bartsmaw Fri 08-May-20 11:45:35

Good morning ?
I started using couch to 5 k on Monday last week. Age 67 never run since I was at school and have suffered from Post Viral syndrome since 1989 with two severe relapses Decided after a wobble mentally last week I wanted to give this a try. Will never win the speed race but am really enjoying the 30 mins every second day so far. Walking on the days not running . Amazing the energy I have after it. My weight is not a massive problem probably 10 pounds would be of benefit . I enjoy reading all sorts of forums here on Gransnet. Hello everyone from a sunny Fife.

NanKate Fri 08-May-20 19:59:24

Welcome to the newbies.

As a Veteran of weight loss may I give some advice which you are at liberty to accept or reject.

Think of weight loss as a lifetime endeavour, not a short sprint. Do your research on the type of eating plan you want to try. Give yourself a few treats along the way and if you fall off the wagon don’t let that be an excuse to continue bingeing get straight back on.

When you put on weight admit it, you won’t be told off here.

I set you a target to sign in on 8 June 2020 to tell us how your first month has gone of course we hope to see you here before then too. Best of luck.

Shirleyw Sat 09-May-20 05:06:41

Oh a happy belated birthday thread....2 years guys, that's gone on quick....here's to the next 2 ?????

Such wise words from nankate

That's brilliant bartsmore doing the cto5k.....I'm a starter and stopper at that, but one day...with all the inspiration I will shock you all ?

Whiff Sun 10-May-20 08:49:04

Morning all. And welcome to the newbies. What I learnt after decades of failure it's a marathon not a sprint. And be kind to yourself. I've been at this diet now 3 years and lost over 7st. 32 to size 16. I'm happy if I only lose a quarter of a pound a week. But if I gain no longer feel a failure. The half a pound I put on last week I haven't lost but stayed the same weight. Which is ok. Only went into the garden yesterday as had roofers here all week. My roof is sealed and the whole bungalow and garage has been repointed. Looks lovely. Pest guy coming tomorrow see if furry meance is still here. Haven't heard scratching or running for days but hear something at dusk. Might be birds don't know. If it's all clear I can get my kitchen/ bathroom fitter to come and remove all the insulation as it's a health hazard . Can't be replaced until lockdown eased and have the new shower room etc fitted.
Hope everyone has a good week. See what Boris has to say today.

grannyrebel7 Sun 10-May-20 09:05:59

Here's what I do - stick to 3 meals a day, snack on fruit, but have one proper treat in the evening of 200 calories. Watch your portions size and get plenty of exercise.

fourormore Sun 10-May-20 10:22:28

Beechnut it's all your fault for sending Birthday cake gringringrin I know there was the caviat that we can eat it or not but ... come on, it was our birthday!!!

Sunday weigh-in today - Up 1lb but I lost 0.8lb last Sunday so am staying the same. I'm happy with that.

DH have just completed eight full weeks of staying at home, so I will admit biscuits are about. I do my best to resist until SINday (TODAY yehhh!) but it isn't easy, so I admit I have slipped up on the odd chocolate digestive hmm That accompanied by nowhere near my usual exercise is bound to have an affect but we will all get back to normal eventually.

So glad Whiff that you seem to have got rid of your pesky little visitors - flowers you keep safe!

A huge welcome to all our newbies - everyone positive is welcome on this thread as we always encourage each other especially in 'dodgy' times. Keep up the good work everyone and KEEP SAFE - that is the main thing flowersflowersflowers

Shirleyw Mon 11-May-20 05:02:06

Hi all, lost one and a half pounds this week. I know that's good but I expected more of a loss as I did a second week of SP.......and two weeks without a glass or two of wine.....I can lose more having a drink at weekends ?
Stay safe

Beechnut Mon 11-May-20 05:58:00

A gain of 2lbs this week ☹️ I seem to be rocking back and forwards. I shall have to get my thinking cap on.
