On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits. Plus a few others who make an occasional entrance and departure and that is fine too - All Welcome.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra. I am sure both Four and Shirley will tell you their strategies.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

So Onward and Downward ? in 2020 and beyond folks. Come and join us.

Shirleyw well done. It's an achievement celebrate. Especially now even a tiny loss would be a cause to celebrate.

Beechnut don't worry about it. I know I am finding it hard some weeks I stay the same and some put a bit on. What I am finding hard is lossing. But we are all out of our routines. Staying home I haven't been walking and lugging shopping like I would do normally. Apart from the garden I haven't exercised properly since lockdown. Because of the roofers only went into the garden on Saturday. Life is so different now and isn't going to alter much anytime soon. I'm just going to plod on as that's all we can to. It's not just not going out I miss it's normal human contact. We are a herd species and not designed to be hermits.

It's the start of a new week. New beginning. I will try my hardest to lose but if I stay the same not going to make an issue of it. Marathon not a sprint.

Beechnut Mon 11-May-20 07:02:31

fourormore I had forgotten about the cake. That must be where my gain came from ?

MiniMoon Mon 11-May-20 10:00:19

Having been at a stable weight for a month, today's weigh in was a bit of a disappointment!
I have gained one and a half pounds sad.
I shouldn't be surprised though. DH has been plying me with whole nut chocolate, my favourite, and I have only been for one walk this week. My arthritic hip has been making walking painful. I must get out this week, exercise is good for it.

I must resist the chocolate, there is still one large bar in the fridge.

Haven’t weighed myself for a while to see if I am maintaining my weight. It’s now on my To Do List.

NanKate Fri 15-May-20 18:16:25

Half a pound up ?

Whiff Sat 16-May-20 06:33:49

NanKate my brother would classify half a pound or sounds better 8oz as a big xxxx . He is very crude at times but I love him to bits. As you say you haven't weighed yourself in a while that isn't bad. Life for everyone is so alien at the moment. We are all out of our routine. Even the people going to work or working from home. I for one miss my routine as it helps me cope with life after my husband's death . That's 16 years ago. Had to fine a different routine. Struggling with my weight. Had a binge last night on Weetabix and toast. So don't expect to lose this week. But not going to make an issue of it. Just going to attack my front garden today as can't do anymore to the back until more plants arrive.

Today is a new day hope everyone has a good one.

Whiff Sat 16-May-20 06:38:56

MiniMoon we crossed posts. What I said applies to us all. There is no way I could resist that chocolate that's why I don't buy it. My husband and I used to share a 200g bar of whole nut every Saturday night. It was our favourite. Thank you for giving me that memory again.

Whiff Sat 16-May-20 06:40:38

Sorry MiniMoon thought we crossed posts but just noticed the date. Still my post stands.

Good morning everyone, good to see many still at it and reducing nicely. In the three weeks since my last post another three and a half pounds have gone. Nothing for the middle two weeks then a bit of a splurge this last week, weird huh. Even more surprising this last week I actually had chocolate again over the weekend for the first time in four months. Have sort of eased on to following more of a 4.3 diet routine now, keeping my calories fairly under control Monday to Thursday and a bit of a mini splurge over the weekend. Very strangely I find I am not particularly feeling the urge for my usual must-have, chocolate, but I would love a takeaway Singapore Chow Mein. Luckily the local Chinese takeaway isn’t open at the mo!

Whiff Sun 17-May-20 09:17:21

Alima well done with the weight loss. Surprised this morning my weight is the same expected a gain after my binge. Must have been my gardening yesterday burnt some of those extra calories off. Well start of another week. No gardening today just housework and must make an effort to do my exercises. Have a good week everyone supposed to be having a heat wave soon.

fourormore Sun 17-May-20 10:17:55

Getting a bit predictable now hmm
Last week up 1lb and this morning down 1lb!
We went into house arrest on 17th March - not under compulsion, just common sense as it was being advised and we had no logical reason to put ourselves or anyone else at risk.

Since my weigh-day on 15th March I have been +0.2, -0.2, -1, +2.2, -2.6, +1.2, -0.8, +1 and -1lb
I'm happy that I am actually a pound lighter than when we went into lock-down, which, considering I am doing nothing like the amount of rushing around, walking, swimming etc. I am more than happy with.
Let's all hang in there folks - we will eventually come through.

Alima I have a SINday every Sunday when we have treats like a pudding and chocolate etc. and I find that helps me focus throughout the week, knowing Sinday is approaching!
IT'S TODAY grin

Keep up the good work ! Love to you all flowersflowersflowersflowersflowersflowers

Alima Sun 17-May-20 11:29:24

Definitely like the idea of a SINday fourormore. Think I might join you!

NanKate Sun 17-May-20 14:28:10

I think it is important we ease up occasionally, so it helps us to feel less deprived. It works for me with occasional chocolate or a glass of chilled white wine. So pleased are small band of losers are still here. ?????

Shirleyw Mon 18-May-20 04:34:06

Down Half a pound, I was expecting a couple off but hey ho....I must of passed that half a pound on to you nankate. ?

Looks like the weather is warming up this week, it has been chilly early mornings and evenings......

Have a good week guys and stay safe....

CocoPops Mon 18-May-20 04:34:58

Fancy digital scales arrived at last and I've put on 1lb which is less than I expected because I have not been good! So I will make more of an effort this week by reducing the carbs.
Best wishes everyone.

Whiff Mon 18-May-20 06:42:29

Shirleyw it's a loss celebrate it. How our life's are a the moment any occasion to celebrate is a bonus no matter what it is. My weight stayed the same which to me was something to celebrate after my binge. A silly thing I celebrated yesterday was finally getting the top off a new bottle of cod liver oil tablets. Been trying to do it for days.

Cocopops when I had new scales last year I weighed more on them than my old ones. Wondered at the time if it was due to the age of my old scales I had worn them out !

Life is so strange at the moment it's a wonder we are all still sane let alone still trying and some of us succeeding to loseweight. But none of us has given up. Something else to celebrate. Have a good week everyone.

Beechnut Mon 18-May-20 09:29:32

I wrote a post hours ago to say that I had gained 1/2 lb. I must have forgotten to poke the ^post message^?

Sparkling Tue 19-May-20 07:26:25

It seems that in this quest to lose weight you have to constantly watch everything you eat. I hate the way I look, I am at least 16lbs overweight, all round my middle, the worst place. I have to get in that mindset that in order to get my weight frown, for health reasons, life will be a continual diet, but it would make other health problems a whole lot better. I wonder if this two day fasting might be better as I can have other days when I can eat what I want.

Whiff Tue 19-May-20 08:42:54

Sparkling many moons ago when I was decades younger I tried that and found I put weight on. If you fast your body thinks it is being starved and holds on to the fat reserves so that your body can function. Unfortunately the only way I found to lose weight after decades of faddy diets. You have to watch what you eat. My way is weighting and measuring everything I eat and drink and count calories. Also took me to the age of 59 to realise it's a marathon not a sprint. Lost over 7 st since I started this final weight loss journey in April 2017. Still want to loss another stone. Finding it hard at the moment. Some weeks putting little on or staying the same. But the way I have done it I have gone from a size 32 to 16. Everyone has to fine their own way. I cut my danger foods out of my diet things I can not control. Chocolate, hard cheese, cakes and ice cream. I won't have them in the house. I do have them as a treat if I go out with friends or family. But that way I only have say 1 chocolate and not a whole box . Good luck with which ever way you choose.

Whiff Sun 24-May-20 09:15:59

Glad to report a loss for the first time in weeks quarter of a pound but am happy about that. Also heard from the hospital this week my bubble echo that was cancelled in March is back on and having it done on Friday. So surprised when they phoned didn't expect them to start testing again until a least September or later. At least I will know if I have a hole in my heart or not. But not worried if I have at least I will know. And take it from there. Hope everyone has had a good week.

WOODMOUSE49 Sun 24-May-20 11:40:29

A few weeks since my last report.

Slow - no - dead stop. No weight gain but a gain of 1cm on waist.
This may be because of no Zumba Gold last week. I've been doing it 4x a week for 3 weeks now. Facebook live from my class tutor.
Hoping she is OK, She started the class up again after having been ill for 5 weeks with the virus. Caught it just before the lockdown. She messaged to cancel last weeks sessions.

fourormore Sun 24-May-20 11:40:46

Well done Whiff and I'm sure we will all be thinking of you on Friday - like you say, at least you will know.

Well, another predictable week on the old scales here - for the entire period of lock-down I have alternated 'up' 'down' 'up' 'down' so after last week's 'down' a pound .........
Yep, sure as eggs are eggs, this week I am up 0.8.

I'm happy though, as I am sure I have plateau'd due to lack of decent exercise. The OCD has struck big time - we have a tall bookcase full of plastic storage boxes that the GC can go to for crayons, scissors, craft bits, pens and all sorts of other essentials (!) and these boxes are now sorted to high military precision! Obviously the work of an OCD person with time on her hands!! grin
Have a good week everyone - every minute, hour and day we get through is one minute, hour and day nearer to freedom! flowers

Whiff Sun 24-May-20 17:53:02

Fourormore you are a woman after my own heart. My cross threads are in boxes in numerical order so are all my magazines. Different boxes for different magazines. My materials are in piles in boxes as well. Plus all craft notions in a box. I like to be organised. I have 2, note books one with all different alphabets from the magazine's listed and the other for things I've made for who and what they were plus where I got the designs plus pics of larger items I made. Hope that sounds organised and not demented.

Whiff Sun 24-May-20 17:55:20

Woodmouse49 no weight gain great, the cm may be water retention.

Shirleyw Mon 25-May-20 12:41:27

I shall just come straight out with it....up 3lbs....i know why, pizza thursday and fish and chips friday....my excuse was that my DH is in hospital and i couldnt be bothered to cook.

Stay safe
