On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course from the beginning are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits.

We now have some other excellent new regulars who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Please join us at this difficult time in all our lives with the Pandemic.

So Onward and Downward girls ??

Happy Easter everyone.
I am 2lbs above my target, my own fault, I just felt p*ss*d off with the surge in Covid-19 cases here in Canada and resorted to some comfort eating. This province has another "stay home" policy until 19th April, possibly longer. I have been sitting too much, learning to crochet and haven't been very active so am resolved (again!) to try harder!
Our roll-out vaccination programme is dependent on vaccine deliveries which have been slow but I had my first shot a week ago. Yay!
Have a great week Pears smile

Whiff Mon 05-Apr-21 07:19:33

Shirley and Coco it's a blip. You both inspire me to do better.

Coco glad you had your first jab. I have a daily news update via email and part of that is new Covid cases for the last 7 days. Just before Christmas it was 183 after Christmas it was over 3,000 today's figure for my area is 71. But expect that to go up after the Easter holidays. As we are now allowed to met up to 6 people from 2 house holds . But as we have seen before people are stupid and think the rules don't apply to them and do what they please.

I tried crochet but never could get the hang of it. But am a cross stitch addict. My sister in law is brilliant at crochet. She made this for a friend's baby.

If these winds die down I will be rock moving again.

Have a good day everyone ?

Sarahmob Mon 05-Apr-21 08:14:41

It’s this one Shirley.

SuzieHi Mon 05-Apr-21 08:52:36

Morning everyone. We had a lovely day yesterday- meeting up in daughters garden with Xmas presents and lunch. Went off diet as it would have been rude not to. Glass of fizz, roast with potatoes and pud. ! Did only have small portions though, and then just a bowl of soup later in day when home. Won’t weigh myself until tom.
Actually had a row with hubby night before - he’s clearly being brewing up resentment about all sorts. Ending up him like a spoilt child telling me I’m boring everyone about my diet and how he’s sick of me eating different meals. Well, both not true.
He has a rant every so often about anything - has the nasty tactic of storing up stuff to blast me with- which is something I have learnt to deal with
Oh well, home today- back on the diet, quiet again. Maybe gardening , jigsaw, reading & tv. Life in semi lockdown continues. At least I won’t be as fat afterwards- determination strong!

Shirleyw Mon 05-Apr-21 20:44:20

Thanks sarahmob

Whiff Tue 06-Apr-21 16:16:06

Suzie glad you had nice time with the family. Sorry your husband does that.

Weight was never an issue with my late husband. When I decided to diet he was very supportive but when I gave up he never said anything nasty . He loved me no matter what size I was. He would be so surprised I have done so well. We argued but never about anything important. And the making up was always fun. Makes me smile just to think about it.

Been in the garden this morning. Very cold but got the rocks moved and looks good. Having my green house put up next week. Also my decorator starts work on the living room and hall on Monday.

Enjoy the rest of your day. ?

Dorsetcupcake61 Sat 10-Apr-21 10:15:46

Good morning ladies?.
It was lovely having a catch up from last weekend. I enjoyed a roast lunch with my daughter and a small individual pudding. Nankate I thought I had resisted Easter chocolate very well. Then a very sweet Easter box appeared from my eldest daughter. The cutest mini caramel filled bunnies that were called work from home bunnies and some truly delicious assorted mini eggs. There were also hot chocolate stirrers and dark chocolate buttons and WFH pens. Sweetest of all hand made easter cards from grandsons.! So I had a little indulgence the eggs/ bunnies were 55 calories each so allowed myself one of each daily as a treat!
Reading through it does seem as though most of us are basically calorie counting with maybe an eye on carbs. I feel very proud of us all we are aware of the process and pitfalls and carry on doing are best whether near our goal or with a bit of a way to go.?.
I think after years of weight watchers and a brief time with slimming world calorie counting for me is the way forward. After the excesses of Slimming world it certainly has not only made me seriously aware of portion size but as I have got used to smaller portions I'm definitely less hungry and more satisfied with what I do eat. I cant remember the last time I had bread!
Suzie I hope you have got over the upset last week. Your husband sounds rather like my ex husband! Losing weight is hard WITH support. Sometimes friends / family can struggle or feel threatened by the more confident you. Some may even be a little jealous. Whatever the reason they may try and sabotage your efforts subtly or otherwise. Keep on going and enjoy the new you!
My week was fine other than a very traumatic work day on Thursday when for the first time in my working history felt totally down hearted. It was a situation that was resolved ,all about whether an amount of money could be released but the process was complex beyond belief with no real straightforward guide on how to complete.
Its lovely having my daughter here. We both started our jobs at similar times, both WFH,both jobs involve complex processes that are daunting for newbies. We are really being able to support each other.♥️.
Well after last weeks glumness I am happy to report that this week I have lost 3.5 pounds! Of course I put 2 on last week but still a loss including increase. So since the 22nd Feb there have been some ups and downs but have lost in total 9.5 lbs.?.
It's a frustrating and slow process and I increased my calories slowly and have tried to avoid salt but other than that didnt do anything much different this week to the previous.
Still I will carry on with slow determination. I think health reasons are a high priority. I need to control diabetes. I had my scan yesterday and was reassured nothing to worry about although liver is fatty. It's something that happened before and a good diet helped.
I also have an eye on summer when it's harder to hide the bumpy bits! I will also be going into the office ,not until end of May and only for one day a week but I want to feel as confident as I can. Fortunately have a hair appointment before then?.
Good luck ladies. Have a lovely week??

Sarahmob Sun 11-Apr-21 07:29:04

Good morning everyone, it’s bright and sunny here this morning but quite chilly. But the sun lifts the spirits! The scales help too - another 1lb off. Slow and steady seems to be winning the race.
Like lots of ladies I have a hair appointment to look forward to this week. It is also my silver wedding anniversary this Tuesday (which won’t be good for the diet as I’ve bought a restaurant box for a special meal for us both). Mind you, as we should have been on a cruise it will probably be better than it might have been diet wise.
Hoping you all have a good week ?

NanKate Sun 11-Apr-21 07:39:18

Enjoy your Silver Wedding meal on Tuesday Sarahmob. ??

Dorsetcupcake61 Sun 11-Apr-21 09:03:27

Hi Sarahmob, well done on loss but more importantly enjoy your silver wedding anniversary???. Hope you have a lovely meal?

Whiff Sun 11-Apr-21 09:15:33

Dorset well done with the brilliant weight lose. I was told I had a fatty liver after my jaundice be there was nothing to worry about. Glad things are going well with your daughter being at home. I will wait until I have my second jab at end of May before having my hair cut.

Sarah well done with the weight loss. To be honest think you are safer health wise not being on a cruise ship. You can make your special anniversary just as nice at home.

Weight has stayed the same. So be it. Have put 15x50l compost on the gardens. Another 5 to go.

My decorator starts tomorrow. And green house going up this week. My daughter and family will be here later to move furniture and cover the carpet with no nonsense carpet protector. Brilliant stuff. Last time not a bit of plaster or paint got on any of the carpets. Already moved what I can.

Have a great week everyone.

Dorsetcupcake61 Sun 11-Apr-21 10:08:00

Thank you Whiff. It's good that your weight is stable,I'm wondering if you are adding muscle with all the gardening?.
All the home improvements sound very exciting?. Everything is going to look lovely.
My eldest daughter has always had an open invitation to do some much needed decorating for me. Last week I was watching Happy Campers and it bought back happy memories of some of the holidays in Looe that we had with my parents which the girls loved. As adults the holiday camp wasnt our first choice but for childeren it's pretty good! So I had a grain of an idea that next summer I will take my grandsons on holiday whilst daughter and son in law decorate. Its expensive, buy I dont think I will be going to the Italian Riviera anytime soon?. I have decided on a camp site very close to home,it will be near if suddenly homesick etc and we are in a very beautiful part of the world. My youngest daughter is coming to as I think extra pair of hands be needed?.
It's a glimmer of idea with lot of coordinating annual leave etc. I'm surprisingly chilled about it-maybe because none of us know how things will be next week let alone next year. If all else fails we are close to lovely days out and activities.
This time last year my neighbours had 3 deposits on cruises which they forwarded to this year assuming all be over by now!
Yes, all was well with fatty liver-well it needs sorting but nothing untoward. I did have a habit of enjoying toast with Lurpak on. Well no more?.

fourormore Sun 11-Apr-21 10:33:16

Scales say UP 0.2lb so but although it is a blip on my chart I feel I have stayed the same this week. I am happy with the progress over the last few weeks - obviously not fast enough (gringringrin) as there is still quite a way to go but as my Grandma used to say ...
Patience is a virtue,
Virtue is a grace,
Grace is a little girl
Who wouldn't wash her face!
I couldn't really see the meaning in that rhyme but she always said it if I was anxious to get something done for something to happen!!!
Everyone seems to be winning a bit at the moment so keep up the good work ladies!
Have a lovely anniversary Sarahmob - enjoy!!!
Have a good but safe week everyone!

Whiff Sun 11-Apr-21 10:47:47

As you say four it's a blip. My husband was very fond of the saying

'Patience is a virtue possessive if you can rarely found in a woman.'

Then he would stop but I finished the rest of the saying.

'But never in a man. '

He always missed that bit out.?

Shirleyw Mon 12-Apr-21 04:01:21

Morning girls....oh dear, up another 2 lbs....I have been on annual leave this past fortnight so I know why, A total 4 lb up lol...never mind....that should come off by next week....just shows...the old habits are just waiting around the corner....saw the book on Amazon sarahmob....think I need to read something like that......

Hailstones by the ton yesterday ....my daughter had heavy snow in Cambridgeshire .....hope it soon warms up.....

Whiff Mon 12-Apr-21 06:19:04

Shirley like you said it's easy to slip into old habits. But you know you can get it off. We had a lovely sunny day yesterday. I am in the north west. It's forecast nice all week. In fact my grandson helped me water the garden while his baby brother slept on my bed. My daughter and son in law were busy moving furniture and putting down no nonsense carpet covering. Camping out in my bedroom this week. But my bungalow will finally all be decorated.

Take care everyone ?

CocoPops Tue 13-Apr-21 01:33:09

Happy Silver Wedding Sarah.
Good to have some things on the calendar to look forward to Dorset.
I bet you'll be chuffed when your bungalow is all painted and decorated Whiff.
I have a guy coming to help me assemble some book shelves and cupboards tomorrow and yesterday I repainted the wall and base boards ready for him to fix the shelving to it.
Lost a bit of weight this week and only .4 lb above target now.
Really enjoyed a beautiful hike in the sunshine with my daughter and our dogs this morning.

Whiff Tue 13-Apr-21 06:01:37

Happy silver anniversary Sarah hope the sunshine's for you.

Well done with with the weight loss not much to go. Hope the sunshine's again for your dog walking.

Cocopops the decorators got everywhere stripped, sanded and filled yesterday ready for the lining paper to go on. Of course the top paper came off easy but the backing paper needed plenty of water. Don't know what the woman who lived here before had on the walls but there where drill holes everywhere . Whoever she had to do the rewiring never sanded down the plaster after putting it on. No wonder the walls looked lumpy. Paul my decorator always used 1400 grade lining paper as it is the best and Dulux professional paints. Colin works with him on large jobs. I have surprised myself the colours I have used in the bungalow. But when I chose everything I did it with an open mind. Really pleased with everything

Have a good day everyone ?

fourormore Tue 13-Apr-21 09:48:43

Congratulations Sarahmob and Mr S of course - have as best a day as you can under the restrictions. It's a shame when 'big' events occur during these times but needs must.
I'm sure we will all celebrate various 'belated' events when safe to do so - wow - just think what that will do for the scales shock
Keep safe everyone!

Whiff Tue 13-Apr-21 15:36:41

Decorators have lined both rooms . Painting tomorrow. Doing my diet wonders so as I don't disturb them make 2 drinks a time. Can't raid the cupboard for bread haven't got any. And no telly so going to bed at nine. No 9pm munchies just hope the scales show it on Sunday.,?

Dorsetcupcake61 Tue 13-Apr-21 19:55:17

Happy Anniversary Sarahmob, hope you are enjoying your day?. It's all sounding lovely Whiff?. Have a lovely week everyone ?

Whiff Wed 14-Apr-21 13:49:01

Painting update. Everywhere had its first coat of paint by 12.30. They worked on a room each. Looking lovely already. Back at 8 tomorrow. Got another**** UTI on antibiotics again. Got an appointment to speak to GP Friday about blood test and urine results. Hopefully won't be to long before I speak to the urologist.

Just read a woman refused to have her daughter Covid tested before her elective operation at Alder Hey so they said they would have to have the operation another time once they get red flagged procedure in place. So the mother has complained to the hospital and gone to the newspaper. What an idiot. They have seriously ill children in the hospital. She was willing to put a whole hospital at risk for what! Was she hoping to get sympathy or money?

Dorsetcupcake61 Wed 14-Apr-21 20:41:27

Brilliant news on decorating Whiff but so sorry you have another infection?.
It's good that your GP on ball though. As I wrote on GP thread I developed minor eye infection over weekend, antibiotic cream worked well when I had it before. After many attempts finally got through to surgery only to be told I could have a phone appointment in 2 weeks. I couldnt help but comment by then it would either have healed or dropped out! Almost as after thought receptionist said I could do an e consultation. I did these complete with rather scary selfie! To be fair Dr phoned early following morning and after further chat said I must start antibiotics that day and if no better by Thursday would need to phone surgery for emergency triage consultation or go to casualty! Fortunately 24hrs on its improved drastically. I cant help but wonder what the consequences would have been of had meekly waited for appointment or didnt have access to internet!

Whiff Thu 15-Apr-21 05:17:14

Dorset sorry about your eye. Thank goodness you didn't talk no for an answer. I had to do e consultation or should I say my daughter did it. At least I now know how to do it. Be glad when most of people have had second vaccine and you can see the GP in person. It's ok for some things on the phone. But sometimes you need to be examined. My daughter's youngest has a gummy eye but because of his age he can't have anything. Just clear with tepid water. It's clearing up though. Went to his first baby class on Tuesday loved it. I call him a little lighthouse. His always looking round even when having his bottle. Nearly had it in his ear the other day when I was giving it him. Nannies not as quick as mommy or daddy.

Have to space the antibiotics 8 hours apart that's why I am awake so early. First one 5am. It's the only way I can fit 3 in a day as I have other tablets I have to take and don't like taking them with the antibiotics. Read years ago it takes a hour for a tablet to dissolve in your stomach before getting into your blood stream. Don't know if that's still true. But work on that principal. Tell I am awake early rambling on as usual.

Hopefully you all have sunshine again today.

Sarahmob Thu 15-Apr-21 07:03:59

Thank you all for your good wishes for our anniversary. We took our picnic to Mablethorpe (about 30 miles from us) and had a long walk along the beach during the day. The sun shone for us but it was really cold walking into the wind. The meal we ate in the evening was amazing, really easy to prepare and special enough to make us feel that we were celebrating. We also received lots of lovely cards from friends and family so whilst we weren’t on the ship going down the river Durou we still had a lovely day.
Mablethorpe was busy, all of the caravan parks have opened up and our children are still on holiday and I could hear lots of northern accents as I walked along the promenade. Lots of space on the beach though so good social distancing there. We’re heading back that way on Saturday as we’ve promised our DGS a day at the beach. Better dig out the windbreak I think, good job we’re hardy souls!
Hope your eye is better now Dorset and that you’re surviving the decorators Whiff - I’m sorry to hear you’ve another infection it must be so frustrating (not to mention painful).
