Terrible relationship with DIL - am I the problem?
WORD ASSOCIATION - 9th May 2026
Ah diddums are the consequences of your actions catching up with you?
A change of heart is needed! You need to face up to your own actions and stop acting as the only victim.

This seems to have become yet another general estrangement thread, not about Harry and his family at all. Goodbye from me.
Quite.
Round and round we go...

I’m not worried about it.
Wasn't this thread about Harry and the RF.? Just read some of the latest posts and wonder if I've fallen down the rabbit hole.
I really would like to know what the lies are and how we know they are lies...
I did have a look on Google but nothing really popped out.. just some small inconsistencies that arise in interviews when the answer might be embarrassing
No different to the average everyday person really being questioned on things they don't know how to answer or don't want to answer
I apologise if my one personal example went off track somewhat, but it was actually about a parent/child relationship with estrangement and mental health issues that bore similarities to the Charles/Harry situation.
I didn't see it as "airing dirty laundry" in public, because the person in question, being dead, cannot be embarrassed by the behaviour I write about.
I would not however talk on here about a known living person's estrangement details, as I would regard that as being indiscreet. Maybe that is what Callistemon meant, though I don't know her well enough to comment either. Anyway, I will now go back to sorting my DH's dirty laundry for his quick turnaround back to work in London tomorrow. 👔 🩳 👕
Celebrities are different because some of them spend half their lives purposely laying themselvrs open to criticism.
I will return simply to say that no, it certainly wasn’t your post * Joseanne*. You have nothing to apologise for. What you said was relevant to the thread.
I was sorry to read your situation Josieanne
I also think our experience is relevant to discussion (despite several posters asserting otherwise)
I also think Harry has the right to speak of it.
For what it's worth, I think this thread might have been better on the News and Politics section.
This is supposed to be a hypothetical opinion thread about Harry and the RF.
None of us (I assume!), know any of this family, so we are just commenting on what Harry said, and what the media are printing, after (no doubt) briefings from the RF.
None of us know who are the "good guys" and who are the "bad guys".
Individual family experiences of posters are irrelevant on this thread, because the issues in the RF are not connected, in any way, to our own experiences.
That family have their own experiences, some on here have theirs.
There's a lot of emotions around estrangement threads and it makes it difficult to comment hypothetically.😗
No, Joseanne, it certainly wasn't you.
Hope you're ok.

I agree, DiamondLily
The Estrangement forum is where we hope Gransnetters can go to seek help, advice and perhaps some sympathy.
I don’t feel anyone has the right to tell anyone to ‘shutup’, keep quiet, or keep their own experiences to themselves. I think it’s especially egregious when the messenger obsessively rants about their own fractured families on at least a near daily basis. It’s not off topic to point that out. Especially when someone’s mental health (Harry’s) is being weaponized against him. This thread is on the estrangement forum. So yes, those estranged—too deeply entrenched in their own trauma to objectively judge another’s— may not be the best tell anyone else what they should or shouldn’t be speaking on. If that’s off topic, it’s likely viewed that way by those who get angry reading or hearing anything that doesn’t resemble Harry bashing. Too triggered by the lack of animosity pointed at him to see the obvious.
Violetsky I think selling intimate family secrets and the private details of family life just to get money is despicable.
This book has been written to hurt, humilate and bully and its contents are of no interest to any but the prurient, and invasively curious. I can hear of nothing in PH's life that is uniquely awful. Many children have lost parents, been seperated from all their family, excoriated and hounded from their homes. Think of Holocaust families, Syrian families, Ukrainian families.
That PH has suffered from - and is still suffering from mental illness, have no argument with, and I see this book as the product of someone who needs care and to be protected from causing needless and lasting damage to himself and his
family.
PH does not need this money. No matter what he says, his personal fortune runs into millions, more than enough to by a pleasant house and live comfortably in the USA, or any other country.
He is not the first member of a royal family and close to the succession to walk away from their role in recent years, and more will, no doubt also do so. He is, however, the first to make such a song and dance about it and to consider that he should live like a Hollywood star in the lap of luxury, and if that means destroying his family, so what.
He will not be the first person to be prepared to betray everything for 30 pieces of silver, or rather more, given inflation, in his case, nor will he be the last.
Have you read it then M0nica?
That's the danger on these threads
There are so many assertions about what has even said or lied about but all that information seems to come from others who haven't read it or from newspaper headlines that have little bearing to reality...
It's just gossip
Was it Terry Pratchett who said "A lie has run around the world before the truth has got its boots on"
Those headlines and the comments started well before the book even came out let alone was read by anyone
And most on this thread have categorically said they won't read it
I'm not even a Harry and Meghan fan but the dynamics of all of this are fascinating
I've been told my personal situation is not relevant but I think bias is there due to other people's honestly and its the elephant in the room
Mark Twain said it.
Also
People telling their stories is not bullying
Neither is disagreeing with someone
Bullying is the other very evident thing on these threads done by those who feel justified because they think disagreeing with them is bullying them and justifies making personal remarks.
That's not healthy at all
I hadn't noticed that this was on the estrangement forum so I understand how some have related their own experiences which has in some cases blurred the topic.

Mark Twain said it.
Ah well Terry pratchett said it in a funny way
"The truth shall make ye fret"
Never a truer word spoken
And Joseanne my comment wasn’t singling you out ftr. It was more general statement about a handful on this forum. Genuinely was curious if it was that hard to see the obvious parallels in the behavior of Harry criticized by those who use a different forum to do what he is being accused of. The difference is that I see a more unhealthy, more obsessive version of what Harry is supposedly doing right here on Gransnet.

Not even a tad bit healthy. Our online selves are true reflections of our in person selves. The difference is that the anonymity of the internet strips away the pretense and phoniness. People get to be their true bully selves. If anyone ever said the nastiness to them in person that they say to you or about H&M, they’d hardly be able to compose themselves. The internet can bring out the worst in people.

from The Times;
Royals want face-to-face peace talks between William and Harry at Windsor BEFORE Charles's coronation in May 'to avoid it becoming a circus' - with source close to the King insisting: 'It is going to take flexibility on ALL sides... but it CAN be done'Of course it can be done, but be under no illusions it will probably happen again. And again. And again. People don't really change.
My father estranged me from birth. He worked overseas and told my mum, if it's a boy, send a telegramme, if it's a girl don't bother, just write. I had to write letters to him every fortnight telling him about school, dance and friends. I saw him maybe once every three years. It was cruel. I never wanted conflict, I was never bitter, I invited him to give me away at my wedding for the sake of propriety. I thought bridges might have been mended to some extent, but he repaid me by selfishly committing suicide a few weeks after my first baby was born, my mum having already passed away. Cruel again, as was his last Will.
But hey ho, I am happy. I try to see the best in everyone, always have, and I think Charles, who conforms to a certain moral behaviour, will try to do the same with Harry. I just hope Charles treads carefully. I hope Harry has enough respect to shut up. The key for me was having a wonderful partner in my husband who never fuelled the situation, which I am sure Meghan is unfortunately doing.
Sorry, that's a bit of a long explanation to the quote by lemsip.
PH - and many posters on GN - could learn much from your attitude to what life threw at you, Joseanne. You appear to have survived admirably, much through your own sensible attitude and efforts I’m sure. As a GN poster, you present as kind and warm and happy. Well done!
Yes, Joseanne is lovely
♥️
why do these threads have to get so personal? any one is allowed to post whatever they like within the guidelines. There is no need for any silencing
I'm sorry Joseanne, some people are just cruel. There really no other explanation for their behaviour other than that they are consumed with themselves
