Have you noticed how a few threads have been started, then the original poster shrinks away never speaks again and leaves everyone to argue between themselves Is this a ploy?

Jessielovestuna I don't quite see the link between going to the zoo and your "but . . . . posters on Gransnet are not how they used to be" Is it that posters used to go to the zoo but now they are too grown-up to do that? Zoos these days are not how they used to be either - they are about information and conservation, not about taking children to gawk at terrified animals in boxes with iron bars on the front.

What is different about Gransnet as it was four or five years ago and as it is now is the size. It is now in the same league as Facebook and Twitter (not so far up the league, but it is wellknown and frequently quoted in the nedia).

Facebook and Twitter contain a lot of stuff that is really only there so that someone can see their posts and the responses to them as they happen. The temptation to post something and see what replies you get is very strong. It is easy to join and use, there are no filters for age, and you get an instant audience of grans - who, let's face it, have this image of being easily shocked and ultra-conservative (small c). And you don't need to be there in person to discuss your opinion, you can sit back while others get hot under the collar defending or attacking it.

So there are more posts now of that nature. Some are from people who go on to discuss what they have posted, and to join in other conversations, some are never heard from again, for one reason or another. Among those are a few whose motives are suspect.

jessielovestuna has observed that poster on GN are not what they used to be? Could you elaborate on that? In what way and, more importantly when?
I ask as I have come across your name for the first time in the last few days - surely we have not change that much in 72 hours?
Or perhaps you have been here before under another username?

I am a simple soul and clearly slow on the uptake. Plus when a person says something like;

No roses I am not Jings. I could never fill her boots

I tend to assume they are telling the truth

Jessielovestuna uses some words that jingl never uses (e.g. 'dotes')

Of course, that could be part of the cunning plan...

And others that she does. FFS for example? Not conclusive, I know, and scanty evidence thus far. Yes, the "I could never fill her boots" was a bit misleading. But again, a ploy perhaps? Jessie comments on how GN in 2016 has changed, but she's a newcomer. Or is she?

But she could just have meant that grandparents have changed these days, in that they're not the cuddly old dears our own were (well, one pair of mine was!)

If she could never fill her boots that means she knows what the other person was like:
"Filling someone's shoes" means doing the job that they used to do. You use this expression when the first person did a good job.
