Listening, watching and reading, I would say no.

For far too long immigration hasn't been dealt with in any real shape or form. Too many people have been allowed to come here to fill low end jobs that and are just not needed. I personally have never known so many polish plumbers.

*builders... that should have read. Do the math, it doesn't take a genius or a "statistic" compiler to tell us that.

www.theguardian.com/society/2017/feb/17/health-cuts-most-likely-cause-major-rise-mortality-study-claims

The Guardian picked this story up as well. I wonder if any of the rightwing papers did.
Does anybody know?

Also, other cultures have multiple children, stick that in the pot. This country is well known for being a forgiving great place to be, without proper border control nothing will ever get better. The people that are blind to this are the people that don't give a damn about things other than themselves becoming richer, and of course there are less of these but they have the money and clout to twist things in their favour.

Having googled, I can find 2 new hospitals built in the last 10 years. And nothing before that for ages?
1 hospital in Manchester and one in Birmingham?

Then I found this!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_OECD_countries_by_hospital_beds

We are 27th! shock
Imagine being in Japan!

Or even places like Hungary or Czech Republic.

Though having a bed is not going to be the be all and end all obviously.

Ankers Fri 17-Feb-17 20:56:53

I am not at all surprised by that link dj.

But I do think people have to bear in mind that the tories, if that is who people are going to blame it on, didnt actually get into power until early May 2015.

daphnedill Fri 17-Feb-17 20:58:49

Who was in government from 2010 to 2015?

stillaliveandkicking Fri 17-Feb-17 21:00:43

There is no such thing as true "tories or labour" they just sell things differently, these days.

Ana Fri 17-Feb-17 21:01:34

grin It's hard work, isn't it daphnedill?

stillaliveandkicking Fri 17-Feb-17 21:02:43

Tony Blair saw to that one.

Penstemmon Fri 17-Feb-17 21:10:12

Too many politicians are business people with all kinds of financial interests in different pies. It often benefits them/family/friends to have sections of public services up for grabs.

If NHS is managed/run by a private business it will need to make a profit for the shareholders. I find this inappropriate. Public funding / taxes should not make a profit for private businesses.

If there is a 'profit' to be made it needs to be ploughed back into the service not into private pockets!

stillaliveandkicking Fri 17-Feb-17 21:15:44

Absolutely Penstemmon! Too many things are given to "private" companies that will of course want a profit, why otherwise would they be in it.

stillaliveandkicking Fri 17-Feb-17 21:17:34

Unfortunately, government is not what it should be.

stillaliveandkicking Fri 17-Feb-17 21:19:36

However I do get a bit of a kick out of them having to work over brexit. Damp under armpits the lot smile

'A spokesman for NHS England said: “Reviewing all STP returns shows that the number of qualified nurses in hospitals, community services and primary care will in fact go up by 2020/21.” '

No it doesn't. It shows that's what they want to happen, not that it will.

Anniebach Fri 17-Feb-17 22:43:58

No matter what we think this government will be the government in 2021

durhamjen Fri 17-Feb-17 22:48:20

ITS ABOUT THE NHS, ANNIE!

stillaliveandkicking Fri 17-Feb-17 23:00:29

why are you shouting at annie durham? why do you constantly give statistics durham? I find your postings very upperclass pretending.

stillaliveandkicking Fri 17-Feb-17 23:05:58

Im gob smacked that England doesn't invest in their young. Farming out all the time is the easy option. No courrgets, no lettuce, well we actually grown them here, same as we grow british young.

durhamjen Fri 17-Feb-17 23:07:14

Got a thing about class, haven't you, saak?

durhamjen Fri 17-Feb-17 23:08:43

"Just 101 nurses and midwives from other European nations joined the register to work here in December – a drop from 1,304 in July.

RCN figures show there are already 24,000 unfilled nursing vacancies."

From www.inews.co.uk

daphnedill Fri 17-Feb-17 23:20:19

Are you sure you meant 'class', dj?

Training and employing British-born nurses and doctors wouldn't save the NHS any money. That sounds like something out of Paul Nuttall's manifesto. hmm

durhamjen Fri 17-Feb-17 23:30:50

Saak did say my posts are very upperclass pretending, daphne. Nowt pretending about my class. Maybe she didn't mean class.

Nowt upperclass about caring for the NHS and wanting to keep it a National health service. The upper classes don't care a fig for the NHS.

inews.co.uk/nhs/happen-nothing-done-prepare-nhs-future/

For anyone who is bothered, there's a map on here linking to all the STPs. If you haven't already, you can find out what Hunt is planning for your area, and you can try and do something about it if you care.

Anniebach Fri 17-Feb-17 23:31:14

Tilte of thread - can the Tories be trusted with our NHS

I mention the Tory government and the NHS and -

A shriek / order from Jen - this is about the NHS

Nothing to do with class, just bad manners
