Statement of intent not the manifesto

1. Reverse the cut in corporation tax saving £64bn over the parliamentary cycle

3. 17% rise in unpaid farmers allowance (exrea £500 pa) - paid by reversing the Inheritance Tax cut.

14 End the practice by large corps, of taking longer than the accepted 28 days to pay SMEs

His rallies are arranged by Momentum

MaizieD Sun 07-May-17 22:56:18

I suppose 800 invitees is probably more than T May would cope with but is he going to do open hustings, jen? Invitation only isn't very promising...

durhamjen Sun 07-May-17 23:06:50

I presume he is.

Excuse me but how does your link show he was in the City Centre?

He was at an invited rally for Labour activists and supporters!

durhamjen Sun 07-May-17 23:31:20

I didn't say it did. I said here's the rally so you can see what you missed.
However, here's another article in the same paper, clearly showing him in the centre, near Debenhams.

Please, please vote Labour. If they win the self-obsessed Katie Hopkins has said she will leave Britain!

durhamjen Mon 08-May-17 00:05:16

I second that.

Corbyn in Leicester.

Anya Mon 08-May-17 07:14:27

I'm thinking it's a walkabout as they mentioned The Parade (the main shopping street in Leamington) but I need to go into town anyway so I'll plan it to coincide with his visit.

Iam64 Mon 08-May-17 07:53:55

Let us know what the walkabout is like and whether you are able to hear Jeremy Corbyn speak Anya.
I've commented previously that I saw him 3 times during the Hustings before the first leadership debate. I enjoyed what he said and the way he delivered his comments and answered questions. Of course I'll vote Labour but I do wish we had a top team that appeals more to the majority than our current crop of Corbyn, McDonell, Abbot and Emily. Having said that, the way this government has cut public services and added to the huge problem of homelessness, substance misuse etc by cutting mental health etc means it has to be a Labour vote for me.

You invite comments about one of your links but don't answer questions.

You disbelieve posters and put up links to prove you are right and they are wrong.

For the last time (hopefully)

If you look at your link at ' 00.05 ' which you state is 'Corbyn in Leicester ' is a photo of Corbyn standing outside a door at the Leicester Tigers Ground where he gave his rally to an invited audience.
---
Your other link yesterday 22.49. where you definitely state 'He was in the City Centre' , is showing Corbyn inside the Leicester Tigers Ground states:-

"Jeremy Corbyn has been in Labour stronghold Leicester today to hold a rally to lift the party in the run up to the General Election.

Around 800 invited Labour supporters gave their leader a rapturous reception filling the function hall at Leicester Tigers' Welford Road ground.

After a bruising set of local election results this week in which his party suffered reverses in other traditional Labour heartlands and in Leicestershire, Mr Corbyn acknowledged it would be a huge challenge to catch the Tories."

However his 30 minute speech was a rallying cry against what he described as an economy 'rigged for the rich' and a 'broken' Westminster system."
-----

Your post at 23.31 is the 'best / funniest' of them all as you state he is outside Denemhams Leicester!

The photo is not Debenhams in Leicester !!! I have no idea why the hell Leicester Mercury used it to be honest.

I immediately knew I had seen that image of Corbyn and a red rose and it was on t.v where he was at ' BEDFORD '.

Hustings as we once knew them are now avoided ,I miss them , every appearance is arranged to make the public think the politician is adored, applauded , they even choose which reporter can ask a question . I have been to some great ones in the past, open to the public, no specially chosen audience .

yggdrasil Mon 08-May-17 11:48:17

The problem with hustings is they only happen in big towns or cities. Not anywhere near where I live. Or not in a place I can get to, park a car, and see a speaker when the timing is not too precise.
I depend on the news, which means selected soundbites. Or a debate on TV, but T May doesn't want to do that.

POGS Mon 08-May-17 11:55:34

I don't think many people are fooled or persuaded by the adoration and applause for ANY Party Leader to be honest.

I think we all understand how the party machine works and to be honest I think it turns voters off .

I am not getting at Labour, they ALL do it and the falseness of it all is mildly irritating , unless of course you are an activist then you probably thrive on all the hype and will stand for hours in a field holding your banner for the 5 minutes of photo taking before they bugger off to another town to do it all over again. Sometimes you even see the same face from one venue to another yet they are portrayed as local supporters!

Anniebach Mon 08-May-17 12:17:13

I have been to hustings in deep dark Mid Wales, so you don't get the leaders but MP's , gets them out of their own constituencies and hear what rest of country think. Suppose their leaders couldn't be bothered to listen to them though.

Now even the cabinet and shadow cabinet are too important to get out there.

I can't be bothered to listen to their staged appearances POGS. Momrntum bus supporters in, this I do know, no idea how the other parties do it , they don't have an organisation like Momentum, suppose they depend on party activists

Anya Mon 08-May-17 16:23:56

Iam I had to leave early as had GDs to pick up from school and everything was running late, so I wasn't there for any walkabout. He stood on the Town Hall steps at the bottom of the Parade and spoke about childhood obesity and the cost of obesity to the NHS in terms of heart disease, cancers and diabetes (a subject I often rant on about myself) and then spoke very passionately against the Tory education cuts.

My daughter's school needs to lose the equivalent of 22 teachers if they are to balance their budget after these cuts, so again a subject close to my heart.

He came across as a genuine man.

None of the TV cameras were pointing my way so there was no point in waving though, but a very respectable turn out. Leamington Spa & Warwick is a borderline Labour/Conservative seat, so it was obviously targeted for this reason.

daphnedill Mon 08-May-17 17:41:48

Off topic I know, but thought I'd mention that Andy Burnham has already kick started his homelessness fund. He's pledged 15% of his own mayoral salary and is hoping to raise £100,000. He's already raised $4,100. This is the link, if anybody is interested:

Ana Mon 08-May-17 18:36:25

I wonder how Corbyn thinks his proposal to abolish parking fees in all Ennglish hospital car parks is going to work out?

If it's anything like the result in Wales, people will be queueing round the block, double-parking and almost collapsing in tears as the so-called 'overflow carpark' is also full.

Plus, you get workers from nearby towns parking all day and using the bus to get into work because there's no free parking in the town...

GracesGranMK2 Mon 08-May-17 18:41:18

Anya really interesting to hear your report of what is actually happening. Such a relief from the journalists interviewing journalists we see on TV. I am glad you got to get a flavour of something real.

durhamjen Mon 08-May-17 18:41:33

I bet you complained about hospital parking charges.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 08-May-17 18:43:29

Evening Jensmile

Ana Mon 08-May-17 18:44:37

No, they were reasonable, and if you needed to be there for a long time the staff would give you a pass.

durhamjen Mon 08-May-17 18:52:47

"I haven't heard any claims that Scottish or Welsh hospitals are 'failing' due to not charging for parking."

Do you remember writing that, Ana?

Jalima1108 Mon 08-May-17 18:57:45

But they could be failing due to other reasons .....

Charging for hospital parking is cruel and should be free but it should be monitored so that people don't abuse it and park all day then go off shopping or on day trips.

Perhaps a modest charge to cover the cost of an attendant to monitor the car parks would be a good idea.

People have been known to use free hospital parking as an extra drive-way if they live nearby and have visitors.

durhamjen Mon 08-May-17 19:01:06

Evening, Gracesgran.
I agree about Anya's report. I am pleased Corbyn came across as genuine.
Anybody else seen him speaking this time?

Daphne, I think I read that Crisis were getting involved with the homeless group that Burnham was setting up, and that affordable housing in Manchester was 30% of the average pay, not 80% as the government thinks.
Burnham is really getting on with the job.

Ana Mon 08-May-17 19:24:30

Nothing to do with Welsh and Scottish hospitals 'failing'. I don't think the parking charges contributed towards the running of the hospitals anyway.

I'm talking about vulnerable people having to arrive hours early for an appointment for fear of not being able to find a parking space - but don't you worry your head durhamjen your Leader can do no wrong in your eyes.
