A small number of back benchers will announce they are leaving the party this morning.

Chuka Umunna is one who may be among them.

Rowantree Tue 19-Feb-19 16:52:04

Well, lemongrove, you really are going for the anti-Corbyn cliches in a big way, are you not?
I live in Croydon, not Islington, my bed is cool despite all the reds in it (not under, you understand because for some reason I thought that red always was the colour of the Labour party, so hey, I plead guilty to that one).
Finally, you should know by now my views on racism. If you don't, I suggest you read some of my previous posts.

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 17:05:57

Day6

I agree with you there. In my view if you resign the party a by election should always be triggered because the mandate you were elected on might change. That’s why MP of any party.

andy

You may be right but the concequences of s no deal Brexit may equally be catastrophic in the short term. No one knows

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 17:12:49

We can stop using that word - ‘racism’

A female Labour MP has tweeted.-

‘ i am sorry they left over a misunderstanding ‘

Denial perhaps ?

' lemongrove I find your accusation that supporters of JC are all anti Semetic as 8slightly hysterical and typical of the right of centre views espoused by many hard core tories. Though of course right wingers are not exactly known for their positive attitudes to minority groups.'

Um PECS is your post not a tad hypocritical?

Have you not done the exact same as the person you accuse?

Rowantree Tue 19-Feb-19 17:24:09

PECS Good post.

trisher Tue 19-Feb-19 17:27:59

Well as I'm not in Islington so I must be in a "hot-bed of left wing activists" because Corbyn has considerable support around here. What I would say is this is a big working class area and Corbyn has appealed to those people
I was thinking about selling council houses and it occurred to me that that action must have seriously cut council income as there are few tenants paying rent now. The money is going to individuals and not into the council coffers. Perhaps if we had more council houses and more income from rents the roads would be in better repair!

POGS Tue 19-Feb-19 17:46:19

The talk at the minute is about the 7 Labour MP's who have resigned from the Labour Party.

There are calls for them to have the guts to hold bi-elections and stand as Independents.

There are other MP's currently sitting in Parliament who have either ' Resigned ' from their party,' been ' Expelled ' from their party or ' Resigned the Whip ' from their party should they also be told alongside the 7 to stand as INDEPENDENTS and hold bi - elections in their constituencies too?

Unless they are temporary ' removal of the whip ' awaiting outcomes of wrong doing why not?

Day6 Tue 19-Feb-19 17:50:21

Any minute now I expect arch Remainer Tony Blair to arrive and decide to lead this group.

Calling themselves Independent is a bit deceitful too. The last thing any of them wants is for the UK to be independent from the EU and Brussels. They are all reneging on the result of the referendum.

lemongrove Tue 19-Feb-19 17:57:02

PECS what on earth are you on about....?
Nobody accused you of being anti-semitic, I have no idea if you are or not.
Rowantree I haven’t read many posts from you on GN ( do you post much?) so don’t know your views on racism.

Yes, I was going for cliches in a big way ? and why not.

lemongrove Tue 19-Feb-19 17:58:27

Labour members may love Corbyn but can’t think many Labour voters do when asked about it on the doorstep outside of London.

andycameron69 Tue 19-Feb-19 17:59:03

POGS, Day6 and lemon, I enjoy your posts. thank you

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 18:10:01

Latest pole today labour sky data pole suggesting election tomorrow labour would get 26%.

So well done Corbyns groupies you and your supporters have put labour into the wilderness yet again just like the 80s with militant.

Tories rum rampant whole the keader of militant tendancy is back in the party.

Shame on you Shame on you.

I expect you are middle class socialists though so it’s all a game to you

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 18:11:22

Time for Tom watson and Yvette Cooper to either go join the rebel’s or stsrtvto fught gor Labour.

POGS Tue 19-Feb-19 18:29:04

Tom Watson.

No thanks .

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 18:42:59

Why because he seemed genuinely ashamed and worried and sad about loosing 7 good labour MPs some who had been in the party for 20 years?

Is he too nice for you? Too worried and concerned about anti senitism and bullying?

trisher Tue 19-Feb-19 18:48:12

Mycatisahacker so the labour membership who elected Corbyn as leader are responsible for the reported fall in the polls and not the 7 MPs who have chosen to ignore the people who elected them and the policies they stood on and become Independents? Isn't that a bit like blaming Red Riding Hood when the wolf eats her grandma?

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 18:52:11

7 ex back bench MP’s are responsible for the fall in the vote for Corbyn ? Surely not, he has thousands of supporters who adore him.

PECS Tue 19-Feb-19 18:55:56

I am out of London. In the heart of Surrey. The CLP doulbled in size following JC becoming leader.
POGS the style pf my riposte to lemon was to illustrate the inanity of her post. Glad you spotted it! ???

lemongrove Tue 19-Feb-19 19:10:03

If the hypocrite cap fits you PECS.....then wear it!
I feel sorry for anyone who thinks poor old Jeremy will ever be PM.....it ain’t gonna happen. His following are not moderate Labour voters, and it’s the voters who count not the far left members.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 19:15:31

How many Labour Party members and how many people are eligible to vote ?

grannypauline Tue 19-Feb-19 19:18:40

Tom Watson consistently voted for the Iraq War and against any investigation into Tony Blair's statements to the HOC before it was waged. He has also voted to replace Trident.

And he has cast more votes for student University fees than against.

He voted for ID cards and also mass surveillance of people's communications.

He cast one vote for, and one against, tougher regulations on fracking.

He might belong with the other 7!

Day6 Tue 19-Feb-19 19:32:05

I expect you are middle class socialists though so it’s all a game to you

So true.

This is what has happened to Labour - they are backed by a liberal 'anything goes' brigade (of NIMBYs) who sit in their expensive ivory towers. They *and the majority of students daren't vote any other way for fear of appearing uncool.

grannypauline Tue 19-Feb-19 19:35:46

Keep trying - I'm sure you can get even more patronising!

Rowantree Tue 19-Feb-19 19:37:47

JC is undermined from the word go, and the JC haters and press do their utmost to drag a man of ingetrity (YES, integrity) who is true to Labour policies and core philosophies through the mud by scraping the bottom of every barrel (my turn for a few cliches now, though they aren't of the Reds Under the Beds type) and then when you've pulled every trick you can, you blame him and his supporters for destroying the Labour vote! Words fail me.

Jalima1108 Tue 19-Feb-19 19:38:53

You have to admit that he's hopeless though.
