Does anyone else think that Jo Brand's "joke" was in bad taste? Talking about the milkshake throwing she said "Why bother with milkshake when you could get some battery acid"

I appreciate she is anti-Brexit and she is entitled to share her views on that but surely this "joke" was a step too far.

suziewoozie Thu 13-Jun-19 13:08:44

The other mischief I think is that this programme was pre-recorded so it was a deliberate choice to broadcast it. For me it was the assassination of Jo Cox that really moved the goal posts.

MawBroonsback Thu 13-Jun-19 13:13:45

Not funny, not a “joke” and in appalling taste. Why do “celebs” think they can get away with such utterances and behaviour?

Elvive Thu 13-Jun-19 13:16:24

WHY are so many of those with Leftist leanings so horribly aggressive towards those whose views they disagree with? The nastiest comments always come from them

Yes indeed, lefties are all simply horrid and this proves it.

bluebirdwsm Thu 13-Jun-19 13:17:21

Jo Brand should never have said such an inflammatory and moronic remark. It certainly was NOT a joke. She isn't funny and is too full of herself anyway.
I had a family member threatened with having acid thrown in her face and lived in fear most of her adult life. It's not something to make fun of.
She should be sacked, it's inexcusable.

EllanVannin Thu 13-Jun-19 13:27:59

It's those who carry on advocating " free speech " who are the troublemakers in my opinion-----it never fails.
" Free country " is another phrase that's questionable too ! It's become another word for loss of values and morals-----hence why it has become the place that it has !

I agree with Callistemon and POGS.

Jo Brand used to be quite funny, but when 'celebs' start spouting their left-wing agenda it turns me off.

Her outrageous comments about flinging battery acid instead of milkshake were unforgivable.

Similar to others who have stepped beyond the line, she should be banned by the BBC from appearing on any more programmes.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 13-Jun-19 13:37:46

This program was pre-recorded!

The BBC took the decision it was fit to broadcast???

The BBC is becoming unfit for purpose in my opinion.

POGS Thu 13-Jun-19 13:40:44

Whitewave

"You are making the erroneous assumption that I approve of Brands comment."

Guilty as charged. You made no comment re Jo Brand did you. You may or may not believe Jo Brands ' joke' was in bad taste or a step too far.
--

Not a burka pogs?

Not sure what point you are making, spelling, wrong word used?

I believe the word he used was ' Burka' in his article defending the right of Muslim women to wear the attire.

His article concerning wearing the ' Burka/Burqa/ Chadaree was crass and showed a total lack of cultural sensitivity but he was not Islamophobic and was cleared by an ''Independent' panel.

If Johnson had ' joked' about throwing battery acid over another politician/anybody I would be the first in the queue to condemn him. As should any decent person.

DanniRae Thu 13-Jun-19 13:46:12

Jo Brand lives near to me too Luckygirl - and I have always found her most unfriendly.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 13-Jun-19 13:54:18

Niqab

Jabberwok Thu 13-Jun-19 13:59:56

It's a dreadful, appalling, unbelievable thing to say! even more so as it was pre recorded and was passed as "appropriate " by the BBC! Absolutely disgraceful! Have they never, or are they totally unaware of the devastation of an acid attack?!! Can't bear J.B and this confirms how truly awful she and the BBC are.

Elvive Thu 13-Jun-19 14:00:15

Jo Brand.....unfunny possibly overpaid woman who makes offensive silly remark.

BJ.......dangerous, racist, liar, philanderer who may lead the country.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 13-Jun-19 14:03:41

elvive ☹️☹️☹️

There are a number of theories though that is cheering me up over Johnson, but I’m on the wrong thread to start that discussion

kittylester Thu 13-Jun-19 14:04:42

We saw Jo Brand at Edinburgh Fringe one year. We also had tickets for The Tattoo but, as Jo Brand turned update, we had to leave before she had finished and she was so rude about 'right wingers' 'monarchists' and 'tory voters' as we left. It was not a pleasant experience.

KatyK Thu 13-Jun-19 14:16:02

Jo Brand - another one of today's unfunny comedians. Only my opinion of course.

Iam64 Thu 13-Jun-19 14:21:41

Elvive - we need a like button, great comment ??

GabriellaG54 Thu 13-Jun-19 14:29:34

As NF said, if he had voiced having thoughts about throwing battery acid over another politician or member of the public, there would no doubt have been a huge outcry and the Brexit Party would have sunk without trace.
As she is not directly 'employed' by the BBC (shades of Lorraine Kelly) they can't sack her but they can refuse to air her programmes.
She's become an untouchable.

Elvive Thu 13-Jun-19 14:31:00

Oh Lordy kitty lester a silly fat woman being horrid about the Royals and Tories.......

Day6 Thu 13-Jun-19 14:31:51

Elvive's comments makes no sense.

She is comparing comedians to politicians. As far as I can recall, Boris Johnson, like him or loathe him, has never advocated maiming or disfiguring politicians he doesn't like in an acid attack. Jo Brand has and the BBC aired it.

How can anyone defend her vile 'joke'? Can someone tell me in which Universe is suggesting throwing corrosive acid over another person funny?

Elvive Thu 13-Jun-19 14:32:22

the whole milkshake thing is so stupid and all the while under our very eyes the whole of the country is going under ( oh apart from a few smug rich people )

quizqueen Thu 13-Jun-19 14:33:37

Labaik-Mr Farage's 'so called ' immigrant poster was a photograph which had previously been shown on tv, including the BBC, in newspapers and on the internet, in general, so how is it HIS poster? It wasn't a lie, it wasn't fake news-it showed real people forcing their way into countries they had no right to be in unless they applied to go there by legitimate means. How many of these people did you help out, btw, and take into your home or do you just expect other taxpayers to fund them?

Jo Brand should be prosecuted for a hate crime. If Mr Farage had said that about her, everyone would be disgusted, and rightly so.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 13-Jun-19 14:33:49

Farage does not advocate using acid, he advocates rifles

Elvive Thu 13-Jun-19 14:34:44

I think you will find my comments do make sense. I was not the one who drew the comparison. I was merely highlighting the JB is not very funny and has no power at all.

BJ is not funny but an immoral, racist, liar who may soon be leader of the party currently in power.

Day6 Thu 13-Jun-19 14:35:23

Elvive - so you love 'silly fat women being horrid about royals and Tories' even if the so called humour is offensive and remarkably crude and violent?

"Oh lordy" - to quote you.hmm

Elvive Thu 13-Jun-19 14:35:46

Oh and JB should never have said what she did.....although " Gas them all" is pretty grim too.
