"because if we stay in the EU we will eventually adopt the Euro"
Not if we didn't want to. As of this moment, we have a vote that would override any others with regard to our own economy.
Of course, if we leave, we have no say in what the EU does. And when we beg to come back, it will be under rules that they set.

For brexiters only please.
(792 Posts)I would just like one thread for brexiters only please.
I voted leave. I would vote leave again and again and again. There has been nothing to change my mind. I have been hardened by the views of remainers.
I would really like to talk to other brexit minded posters.
Thanks.
At present
I don't believe them growstuff, that's what they say at the moment. However, their intention is for closer and closer unity between the member nations, and I honestly believe that a single currency will be the result.
Should have added that I honestly believe that would be a disaster for the UK.
So not at all perturbed by the actions of the govt when it comes to trusting their word?
You have absolutely no evidence of that Opal.

More Project Fear from Brexit propagandists, I'm afraid.
I “honestly believe” Brexit is bad for the U.K. it’s economy, it’s society and unity.
Any evidence to suggest otherwise?

Not really, because we all have a vote and can change any government whose policies and practices do not align with the majority electorates needs.
We can’t do that with a directive from the EU, plus, we can only change the MEPs elected from UK, not from the remaining 27 (or however many countries), no matter how bad it might get.
One more reason for beeing happy to leave.
Exactly Joelsnan, as a population, we have far less, if any, control over the whole of the EU, than we do over our own Government and political system.

Where is your absolute evidence that it wouldn't happen at a later date?
The EU is far from snowy white and a number of countries ARE in agreement on the Federalist ideology, not a majority at the moment, but (as is common), pressure can be levied by the more powerful nations on the poorer ones when the time is right, the poorer countries will conform because of their financial reliance.
Just imagine you in a room of 26 strident leavers who all want to close the channel tunnel and you as a the single remainer want to keep it. What hope do you have of winning the argument?
I've read your link growstuff and it states "All other EU member states are supposed to join the Euro eventually, but this doesn’t override the UK or Denmark’s opt out, and there is currently no time limit on reaching that goal.".
As it stands, I agree there is no time limit, but no-one can be in any doubt that the EU's ultimate intention is for all member states to join the Euro, be that in two years or twenty years. And by joining, we would be tying ourselves to the economies of all the other member states, which would be a huge mistake.
How do we know the EU won't insist we join the Euro at a later date
A good result tonight, Parliament have agreed in principle to accept the deal.?
Would have been even better had they agreed to the three day timetable , however if we need a short extension for this then worth waiting for.The stalemate has ended, thank goodness.
Is he going to be dead in a ditch then.? Or was that another lie?
What we need now is for the EU to give us only a 1 - 2 week extension - to read up on the bill and then vote on it as Parliament have ACCEPTED the deal but just want longer to scrutinise it.
i don't know why the house didn't pass the second motion for any other reason than to continue their obstruction.
All who voted for the delay were the ones who said the WA was nothing other than T Mays deal with lipstick, which had been discussed, mulled over and rejected time and time again, so they know everything about it other than the minor changes BJ negotiated.
How hard is it to read and understand the 125 page WA explanatory document especially when you already know the majority of its content.
Opal - we are not as successful as you may think. We are the 5th (or 6th and soon to be 7th) successful economy, mainly down to the service sector and much of that is decamping to Europe. However, in the list of a country's ratio of GDP per capita we are 23rd. One reason is because a lot of wealth is syphoned off to tax havens. The reason for this is tax avoidance - pure and simple. And this is the reason that we have increased poverty. So, we are not as successful s you might think.
Greece is struggling because they used a large tranche of EU money to reduce the pension age of state employees to 52. The age for most people is 55. Their population is aging and they made no allowance for that. In western European countries the retirement age is increasing because of the longer life expectancy.
How much did the government spend on the “get ready for Brexit on October 31st” advertising campaign? Money well spent even though the ads told us nothing - complete farce more like.
I’d just like our country to be happy after Brexit. Suvpccesful in whose terms? 6th 7th 8th 9th on the world stage ... Who cares? Someone (a Remainer) said at the beginning of Brexit negotiations ‘we will end up being like Guernsey at this rate’.
All I could think was ‘so what?’ Guernsey seems a great place, happy in its own skin.
Joelsnan, in regard to your post @21:36 today, you state that the withdrawal agreement now before parliament is Theresa May's withdrawal agreement with minor changes. However, that is not the case as the guarantees on workers rights etc were written into Mays Bill but are not in the current proposed legislation brought forward by Johnson.
Johnson informed the House of Commons on Saturday that he would guarantee those workers rights, but when the full documents were published yesterday no such guarantees had been written back into them.
It is being stated that Johnson has promised the ERG group that those rights would be reduced or removed from workers in the planned eventual no-deal scenario, and that is how those hard-right Tories in the House of Commons came to support this withdrawal deal.
Disgusting lies by Johnson once again.

Only 98 on the Remainer thread.
I think Remainers are goady so they prefer this one! They don’t want a nice supportive thread (like we did). I agree with lemongrove they want to barge in her for some argy.
Sky reporting France will only allow a very short technical delay.
Parliament accepted 2nd reading of Bill but now it looks like they will try to add wrecking amendments to bill. No doubt Bercow will allow them all to be voted on. Let us hope Macron will only agree a week delay at most. What makes me feel sick is that there is a photo of the commons nearly empty after screaming they need more time to debate the bill.

Workers rights will revert to U.K. government post Brexit. If we do not like the way the government is handing them then we can just vote them out which we cannot do with any EU legislation unhelpful to us.
Don’t forget EU employment law is just U.K. employment law that the EU adopted.
In many instances U.K. exceeds the requirements of EU law.
Also as mentioned before. The EU has offered no protection to employees now working zero hours or working the gig economy. Many of these low paid employees having to compete for work with EU citizens who come to work here because even on minimum wage they are still better off than in their own countries.
BTW
Wouldn’t it be better to ensure frictionless supply chains if the parts industries were repatriated to U.K., and located close to the assembly plant where they really should and used to be? Surely this would enhance ‘on time’ deliveries as well as reducing carbon footprints and provide jobs? Or is it better to keep feeding the industrial profiteers by using cheap Eastern European labour and pretending to keep people in work here?

I think they should be locked in until it’s done, something like when the Vatican is voting in a pope.
I would be happy to supply tea and sandwiches.
