Take back control??? ???

trisher Mon 09-Dec-19 11:35:42

Actually that's a misleading piece of information Chestnut In fact although we have risen in the ranks our scores for reading and science have in fact remained much the same as 2006. So no real improvement I'm afraid. The organiser of the tests says that if the UK wants to rise to the top it needs to invest in teachers. Something I am sure the Tories will continue not to do. I almost laughed at your assessment of Gove's period as Education Secretary, unfortunately teachers had to endure him which was beyond a joke. For the facts behind the figures www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-50563833

sadly i feel (my opinion only) were doomed if we vote boris and were doomed if we vote corbyn.

dayvidg Mon 09-Dec-19 11:43:23

It's sad that British politics has now got to the stage where a lot of people are voting against what they don't want, rather than for what they do want. Until we go down the road of proportional representation, I fear this will only get worse. What happened to government of the people, for the people.

Chestnut Mon 09-Dec-19 12:01:26

trisher - I simply stated a statistic, that we had moved from 29th to 14th place which is a good thing. I didn't go into any further details and I didn't do an assessment of Gove's period as Education Secretary as you laughingly stated.

Tom London

We Jews must stand rock solid in solidarity with all minority groups who feel threatened by this Tory PM

Here are just some who deserve our strong support: -
Poor people
Disabled people
Muslims
Black people
Gypsies & Travellers
Gay people
People with mental health conditions

Yehbutnobut Mon 09-Dec-19 12:14:48

Oh dear. My Google search grew this up!

Statistics!

“However, despite attempts to replicate the educational practices of East Asian countries, the UK's performance in maths has fallen, with the UK dropping from 26th to 27th in the rankings with a decrease in average point score from 494 to 492.

According to the data, some 22 per cent of 15-year-olds in the UK do not reach Level 2 - the baseline level of achievement - which means they cannot solve problems "routinely faced by adults in their daily lives".

Overall, only 11 per cent of students in the UK are top performers, this is compared to Singapore, the top performing country, where 35 per cent of students are top performers.”

Yehbutnobut Mon 09-Dec-19 12:15:24

Gove in Education was a disaster and alienated teachers..

Yehbutnobut Mon 09-Dec-19 12:20:51

.So long as you know just who you are voting for. This will be the nature of our ‘special relationship’ and Trump makes Bush look like a MENSA candidate!

Opal Mon 09-Dec-19 12:29:22

WWM2 ^Here are just some who deserve our strong support: -
Poor people
Disabled people
Muslims
Black people
Gypsies & Travellers
Gay people
People with mental health conditions^
But what about those who are none of the above????? I guess we don't count, we're just expected to support and pay for everyone else?????
What absolute f**g rubbish you spout WWM2.

growstuff Mon 09-Dec-19 12:33:51

Did you get out of bed on the wrong side this morning Opal or is your language always this bad?

For whom are you paying? If you are, you're one of the wealthiest 30% in the country, so do stop moaning.

dayvidg Mon 09-Dec-19 12:34:10

Why is it that all on the left expect Donald Trump to be re-elected next year?

Dinahmo Mon 09-Dec-19 12:38:22

We are not a presidential country. We should be voting for the party and not the leader.

trisher Mon 09-Dec-19 12:41:46

I'm just thinking of all the Tories who don't support Boris and who he has effectively kicked out of the party, what do his supporters think of them?

MerylStreep Mon 09-Dec-19 12:43:36

Opal
Lots of posters support your comment ??? but most of us ( me included) haven't got the nerve to post it.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 09-Dec-19 12:50:02

Something to cheer us all up. It is by no means cut and dried.

Everything to play for

What ever in the world makes anyone think that any of the issues which have remained unsatisfactory for the last 9 years under Tory rule, will suddenly be miraculously changed by the Tories if they get re-elected?

LadyGracie Mon 09-Dec-19 12:52:18

Lord help us if Labour win!

crystaltipps Mon 09-Dec-19 12:56:53

The Tories have been in power for 10
Years and they haven’t sorted out crime or immigration even though they’ve had 10 years to do it. The NHS is crumbling due to all the Tory cuts . Anyone would think they’d been in opposition for 10 years the way people think they are going to miraculously change anything. Boris was the most useless mayor of London told lies and wasted money like their was no tomorrow. The bikes and the Olympics were started by Livingstone.

Yehbutnobut Mon 09-Dec-19 12:58:46

Wow Opal you have opened up a can of nasty, wriggly worms and some of them are coming out of the woodwork.

#scusemixedmeaphors

Opal Mon 09-Dec-19 13:00:40

MerylStreep - thanks for the support, but more of us SHOULD be posting what we think! Have the courage of your convictions and speak up, otherwise the loony left-wingers on here are able to spread their garbage without being challenged, and we should all want to stop that.

No, I got out of bed on the right side this morning growstuff, and then I get onto Gransnet and the left-wing propaganda machine makes me see red, so I start swearing. Yes, I am known to occasionally swear when I'm angry, don't expect an apology anytime soon! At least I'm honest in my language and convictions, and don't just spout the politically correct shit that the left-wing do-gooders on here keeping pumping out.

pinkquartz Mon 09-Dec-19 13:01:57

Anyone voting Tory is person who hates the Disabled and the Vulnerable.

How can Chestnut vote for a party that is breaking the UK to shreds while quoting meaningless school statistics?
I don't believe in statistics they are always fudged.
But here is one: British teens are the most Unhappy in Europe.....

MaizieD Mon 09-Dec-19 13:06:56

What is wrong with being a 'do gooder', Opal?

What is wrong with wanting the country's (indeed, the world's) resources shared more fairly so that everyone has the chance of a decent life, not just a section of the population?

Opal Mon 09-Dec-19 13:10:24

I vote Tory and I do NOT hate the disabled and the vulnerable, that is complete rubbish pinkquartz. You're talking out of your a**e. You may think that Corbyn will look after the less fortunate in our society, but mark my words, under his Government, the economy will be destroyed, and the poor will become even poorer. Go and do some reading on socialism and why it has NEVER prospered and been successful. Wealth is only ever generated in a capitolist society, and there's a very good reason for that, it's because capitolism and market forces WORK.

You don't believe in statistics, and then you go and give one - confused.

Yehbutnobut Mon 09-Dec-19 13:10:51

If I posted what I actually think about the intellectual capacity of those who could even contemplate voting for a moronic, manipulating, misogynistic liar my post would be removed by GNHQ.

Luckily I am not going to do so but feel free to say what you want Opal

Yehbutnobut Mon 09-Dec-19 13:11:35

..in whatever language comes naturally to you!
