Tweet from Lord Sugar

I can’t say I’m a massive fan of Lord Sugar but I find myself agreeing with the sentiments in his tweet.
I too, am sick to death of all the negativity re: the handling of Covid19 by the Press and TV News.
This Pandemic had been a Global disaster but we are going to come through it and the Government are, obviously, doing their very best in unprecedented recent times.

Hetty58 Sun 17-May-20 06:46:25

Why drag this up again. I remember well, a few weeks ago, the post about negativity and the press not reflecting the 'mood' of the nation.

I said at the time that I don't want to live in Cloud Cuckoo land with rose-tinted glasses on.

Nothing has changed. The government 'doing their best'??

Hetty58 Sun 17-May-20 06:50:06

A repeat of 22nd April, Mamissimo, Are the media misreading our mood?

MaizieD Sun 17-May-20 06:54:29

I thought we'd seen it on here before.
Thanks, Hetty ?

NfkDumpling Sun 17-May-20 07:10:53

Why should the Government not be doing their best Hetty?

Furret Sun 17-May-20 07:31:43

Yes MamaCaz I want realism too. It’s the job of the free press to question those in power. It’s the duty of the Daily Mail to express the right wing views of its masters and Lord Sugar to protect his billions.

We are fast heading for 40,000 Covid deaths. What’s there to praise? Those are people, real people, who have lost their lives and it wasn’t inevitable.

Things could and should have been organised better.

Furret Sun 17-May-20 07:33:32

Good question Nfk why are they not doing their best?

tickingbird Sun 17-May-20 07:55:23

MaizieD The poster called EllenVanin vile. That is totally different from saying the comment was vile.

Buffybee Sun 17-May-20 08:02:29

Why drag this up again? Hetty

Why shouldn’t we drag this up again, is what I say.
You and some others on here, seem to think that as something has been discussed before, it shouldn’t be again.
Well! Guess what! I didn’t see it before and probably a good percent didn’t either.
So WE are entitled to discuss it.
Just because something has been read by you and you cohorts before does not devalue it, as you are all insinuating.
You who have discussed this before and are bored of it, don’t discuss, move on but don’t try to stop others who haven’t seen it, discussing it. Ok!

MaizieD Sun 17-May-20 08:32:23

So EllanVanin had no connection with what she wrote? It wasn't the product of an unpleasant thought process, tickingbird?

As I said before Hetty, if this is boring you as you’ve discussed this subject before, just move on.
But, that’s not it, is it!
What you want is to close down this thread and any thread that you are not in agreement with, so you and your cohorts, hang around disparaging the discussion, in the hope of that outcome.

EllanVannin Sun 17-May-20 09:23:10

Now I know where I stand, don't I ? ( I am vile am I ? ) Tut tut.

I must have hit a nerve there I suspect !

Not to worry, I've sussed out those who DO deserve that description.

Furret Sun 17-May-20 09:23:49

You cannot use that sort of personal insult.

Firecracker123 Sun 17-May-20 09:37:51

The trouble with our now PC world you are not allowed to mention race, colour, religion the list goes on.

What EllanVannin asked wasn't vile.

Firecracker123 Sun 17-May-20 09:39:52

Yes Buffybee the tweet by Lord Sugar is exactly how I feel. Thanks for highlighting it.

MaizieD Sun 17-May-20 09:55:19

Nobody mentioned Lord Sugar's race, firecraacker. Until EV came out with the comment that speaks more about the state of her mind than anybody else's.

Buffybee Sun 17-May-20 10:04:09

Ignore! Ignore! And they might go away!
They just hate this thread but just can’t keep away!
Anyway! Firecracker123!
Yes! You and a lot of other people agree they are sick and tired of the Press and Tv News describing the situation in the UK in the worst possible way.
As notanan2 mentioned earlier, it is not only us who are reading this doom and gloom but the rest of the World.
Our country is one of the best in the World and we are managing this crisis very well, it’s about time some people supported the country in which they live.

FarNorth Sun 17-May-20 10:35:52

I don't agree with that tweet, whoever wrote it.

Alan Sugar's race? I have no idea and don't care.

janeainsworth Sun 17-May-20 11:45:09

What EllanVannin asked wasn't vile.

Yes it was Firecracker. She implied that the reason SirChenjin dislikes Alan Sugar was that he was Jewish.

Making unfounded accusations that someone is racist is vile in my opinion, and in this instance you can't separate the comment from the poster.

tickingbird Sun 17-May-20 12:53:13

The comment can always be separated from the person. You cannot defend a personal attack. If Sc had said “that was a vile thing to say” it would, imo, be acceptable as we all have a right to comment. However, Sc said “You are vile”. Unacceptable.

EllanVannin Sun 17-May-20 13:10:51

It just seemed pointless to point out racism, homophobia and all the rest when those who knew that Alan Sugar was Jewish.
It reeked of double standards that's all, so what appears to have been the problem ?

If I'd been as quick off the mark as some of you, I'd have reported the remark, but knowing how sensitive some of you are on certain subjects I let it go-----because I have a more balanced attitude with these sorts of things because I'm not as blinkered. Pity you didn't too.

Maybe in the heat of the moment SC could/ perhaps have bitten his/her tongue after posting---I'll never know. I know I would, even though there are those who wouldn't flinch.sad

Thanks to Tickingbird for your explanation.

lemongrove Sun 17-May-20 13:26:12

There seems to be a distraction technique going along nicely now.
To get back to the OP....yes,I agree with Alan Sugar on this, the negativity is appalling from some quarters.Every country affected by this awful virus is doing what it can to keep it’s citizens healthy, care for them when they are ill, and try and keep some sort of normality going at the same time, including keeping food supplies going. That includes this country as well.
Too many armchair critics are having a depressing effect on other people, who are trying to get on with it.Whining won’t make a vaccine appear any faster.

EllanVannin Sun 17-May-20 13:29:39

I agree lemongrove, nobody knew the devastation it would/has caused.

MaizieD Sun 17-May-20 14:59:47

Is that the same Alan Sugar whose previous tweets include racist, sexist and homophobic ‘jokes’ and retweeted claims that covid was made in a lab and it was all a conspiracy?

Can you, EllanVanin please explain what is antisemitic about this post?

And this?

it just seemed pointless to point out racism, homophobia and all the rest when those who knew that Alan Sugar was Jewish.

Are you actually saying that being Jewish gives you carte blanche to be racist, sexist and homophobic?

This is quite bizarre...
