Well....some good news being reported at last and before anyone jumps down my throat, I know this has been reported before but we have now made significant headway with getting the Corona jab....fingers crossed.
Of course we know our wonderful scientists at Oxford and Imperial College have been working on and are carrying out trials but AstraZenica are going to start mass production now, in case it is found to work.
We could have a vaccine by some time around September and as most people realise, the only real way out of this Pandemic is a vaccine.
Our Government realise this and have already ploughed more than a quarter of a billion pounds into the search for the jab.
Well I for one think that’s wonderful news, not guaranteed, I know but there’s a very good chance.

Janpt When you use expressions like "Old man Steptoe" and make out that people are not sensible unless they vote Tory, then that looks to me as if you are not as confident in Boris Johnson's handing of the pandemic as you would like to be.
If you need everyone else to either agree with you or to be somehow lacking, you sound uncertain.

Also, not all Tory voters agree that Boris Johnson is doing well.

I think it's you that janpt thought was a 'sensible tory voter', Lucca. I cannot think what made her think that.

I don't think we're gong to get any explanation of what makes Johnson such a successful leader.. (apart from the 2:1 from Oxford)

Lucca I reiterate - Boris Johnson has been PM for less than a year, has got Brexit sorted out (against a lot of opposition), has had all this Covid-19 to deal with, as well as having had (and still recovering from) it himself. His GF also had it. He's had to arrange for businesses to be paid, their employees to be paid - all by this furloughing scheme- as well as extra funding for the NHS, the PPE, and countless other things to deal with. THAT'S why I believe he's doing the very best job he can. If you think otherwise, that's up to you, but I'm sick of hearing such negative things in the press, and on here, about Boris Johnson and his government. What's the point? He was elected to do the job, and he's doing it to the best of his ability.

He hasn't got Brexit sorted out. We're hurtling towards a no deal Brexit [something that nobody voted for] and it now turns out he's lied about border controls in Ireland. Even Arlene Foster is distancing herself from him. I agree he's doing it to the best of his ability, though. Which is why we're in the mess we're in now.

Sadly, Johnson's ability is not particularly good... If this is the best he can do God help us for the next four years...

SalsaQueen Well said I totally agree with you. I doubt very much if Labour could do any better. They should give Boris Johnson and the Conservative party their full support when they are dealing with such a difficult situation. Keir Starmer has said as much.

Now you see, to me, Janpt you would sound more convincing if you had not added the comment about the Labour party. Confidence should not need to be qualified by that sort of remark.

Ok; let's forget about Labour. How about if this country was governed by say, Jacinta Arden or Merkel. How do you think Johnson would compare to them. Or, Trump perhaps [his nearest rival in the death rate competition].

UK 242,000 square km, so smaller than New Zealand, with around 67 (Sixty seven) million people.

How about Merkel, then? Germany, population 84 million.

Well Merkel would be used to the numbers but even though 84 million, Germany:
only 240 people per square km
UK:
274 people per square Km
And the majority of that amount in England:
430 people p sq km.
UK being so heavily populated would make the contagion more difficult to contain.

Well, Gove is quite happy to use comparisons with Denmark when it comes to sending children back to school even though their infection/mortality rate doesn't in any way compare to ours.

France has done the same MayBee (young school children returning.)
They have to go back at some point ( things won’t be any safer by September in any case.) If it’s a slowly phased return ( and it will be) then nothing wrong with that.
