GNHQ edit: Following on from previous thread linked to here: Will he resign?

So there we have it.

Starmer has responded, not by tweeting for days about Johnson, and making demands while the Tories damaged themselves - but by pouncing at the right moment, with a message far more devastating - that Johnson is weak.

This is how Blair destroyed John Major.

Galaxy Thu 28-May-20 17:33:11

Oh my god. Johnson is not letting the scientists speak to the press. It's like 1984. Its frightening.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 17:36:31

??????? nod your head. Wonderful

Boris effectively silencing Whitty and Vallance. Unbelievable. This really is banana republic stuff. The CMO and CSO should be embarrassed

Oopsminty Thu 28-May-20 17:39:24

Oh my god. Johnson is not letting the scientists speak to the press. It's like 1984. Its frightening.

Did you not hear what the scientist said about that?

They are not interested nor do they want to discuss politics.

So no.

It's not like 1984 and it's not frightening.

Get a grip

MayBee70 Thu 28-May-20 17:46:25

I can’t believe what I’m watching. This is disgraceful. And the scientific advisors are going along with it. Even refusing to answer the question about driving to test your eyesight.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 17:46:36

Led by science unless they may say something inconvenient.

It isn’t political at all, it is a matter of public health

Wow. Boris Johnson bans CMO Chris Whitty and CSA Sir Patrick Vallance from giving their opinions on Dominic Cummings’ lockdown activities. Now we know why they were abruptly sent home from No10 on Monday instead of doing the press conference.

Fennel Thu 28-May-20 17:49:09

Starmer is responding from a position of strength.
As someone else said, maybe he's giving our 'leaders' enough rope to hang themselves.
Having said that, he has a long way to go before getting the support of the traditional LP member, and the public.

Galaxy Thu 28-May-20 17:52:08

No I wont get a grip, how stupid are people?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 17:53:24

Johnson has become Trump??

MayBee70 Thu 28-May-20 17:56:16

He always was Trump. It’s just that the mask has dropped.

MissAdventure Thu 28-May-20 17:56:33

No grips are being got here.
Give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves, but sadly there will be other casualties.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 17:59:03

Someone just said.

Johnson intervened and prevented the scientists from answering the questions.

He interfered with their independence..

Wheniwasyourage Thu 28-May-20 18:00:29

To go back a bit, Jabberwok - you say that Ian Blackford did the same thing. As growstuff pointed out, no he didn't. However, if the Minister for the Eighteenth Century Jacob Rees-Mogg gets his way and the virtual Parliament is cancelled, there are going to have to be an awful lot of MPs doing an awful lot of travelling. Of course, they could then stay in London, which robs most of them of a family life and the ability to visit their constituencies. I suppose they'll just have to do that or else invoke the Cummings let-out and keep travelling.

merlotgran Thu 28-May-20 18:03:38

They are not interested nor do they want to discuss politics.

Well, they would say that wouldn't they?

I would have preferred them to be able to give that response themselves.

The petition demanding the sacking of Dominic Cummings is nearing one million signatures. If you haven't signed, here is the link.

MissAdventure Thu 28-May-20 18:11:40

I just checked it.
Signatures being added almost every second, now.

Elegran Thu 28-May-20 18:21:31

"And the scientific advisors are going along with it. Even refusing to answer the question about driving to test your eyesight." Without saying a word about politics or Cummings, they are demonstrating silently that they are not allowed to disagree! That is their statement - you can silence criticism, but that silence itself can be eloquent.

varian Thu 28-May-20 18:22:34

They might as well be the scientific advisors to the Chinese government.

Galaxy Thu 28-May-20 18:29:05

Thanks varian, do you know if you have to be 16 to sign, I have had a look and cant find any indication. Asking for my son rather than megrin

growstuff Thu 28-May-20 18:35:50

Fennel Starmer has time on his side. He also has a lot more going for him.

I honestly don't think Johnson and Cummings will be around for the next General Election. Goodness know what's going to happen when the UK finally leaves the EU - with no deal. The Conservatives also have to stick to their promises to do something about all the so-called "left behind" areas which voted Conservative for the first time. There was already tension between the traditional shire Tories and those (including Cummings) who wanted massive investment in poorer areas. It's going to be "interesting".

Starmer has to keep his nose clean, build up an effective team and, even with the Scotland problem, the next election could/should be his. The Tories will hang themselves.

MissAdventure Thu 28-May-20 18:36:08

I think you may have to be 18?

MayBee70 Thu 28-May-20 18:41:20

I've asked this before but would we still have been able to keep the supply chain going if we weren't still in the single market till the end of the year? I did read somewhere that it would have been very difficult.
