Community Policing

Back when I was a kid (1950s) we had community policing everyone knew the village bobby and he knew exactly what was going on. In the local town there were around 6 on duty at night with a sergeant in charge the police were visible and knew everyone and when any outsiders were around.

So that’s community policing, I’d vote for that returning but is that a realistic aim, at present the routine is catching up with crime if they can.

Trisher In all honesty I don’t believe the police would have sent an officer into the park at that stage if the women were white.

My youngest son was attacked by several black men and a woman when he was 18-19. It happened not far from home and when he managed to stagger to the back door and get me out of bed at 12.30am I thought he’d been stabbed. Covered in blood, shaking in shock. He had a hairline skull fracture, bad wound to the back of his head and defensive wounds to his hands.

When the police arrived they didn’t even bother going up the road to investigate even though we knew they were still there and which house they’d been partying at. I complained to my MP and had a senior officer round a week or two later to apologise.

My son could have been killed. As it was he was a week into his new career and he was off work for several weeks after and it affected his mental health badly.

Were those officers racist? My son’s white.

So asking to see the photographs of two murdered girls, and asking if they had been lynched isn't racist? You do realise lynching is linked directly to racist killings particularly in the US and that law enforcement officers were often involved?

The calls go through to a call centre where a police call handler will listen and log the call, assess and prioritise. They get thousands of calls in a week and many from distressed people.

I think that so far, there are many facts of this case which we or even the police themselves do not know and a painstaking investigation will be undertaken. Unfortunately, the crime scene will have been compromised too.

The conduct of the two police officers is another issue and I hope they will be dealt with with the utmost severity. Yes, there does seem to be an element of sickening voyeurism around today as Anniebach has mentioned but the last people we think of indulging in this are police officers.

annie made comments that were beyond the pale and I’m not the only one that thinks so. I think Baggs post was dreadful too as she didn’t to find out what the issue with the photograph was before wading in. As usual on GN the tribes are our. There are posters who can do no wrong and are beyond criticism. whatever they post. No one on GN has a monopoly of pain and suffering and no one is beyond criticism or as a special immunity. Some just don’t use their own heartbreak an excuse.

Only in this case they were part of a very respectable supportive family.

Chewbacca there is racism. The photographs prove it. It is unlikely to be just two police officers (although they may be the scapegoats) they shared those photos with similar-minded people. So it's a culture and cultures. influence behaviour and actions.

We know what the Mother said in her interview (anyone who saw/listened to it should have been amazed at her dignity and elequence) other than that we only know what we have read in the papers, not sure whether they have all the facts either?

Annie is neither heartless nor racist. I know she is does not have a heart of stone because of the great kindness and support she offered to me at an extremely difficult time in my life. This is a fact. Also she was in a relationship with a black man, I’m not sure if this was her husband but am assuming it was, and either way, relationship or married, she is not a racist because racists do not enter into relationships with people of other races. I’m assuming Annie is not black as she says she suffered racial abuse for being with a black man.
Look for something else to discuss and stop this shameful bullying of another poster.

Yes trisher everyone has agreed that those police officers acted in a deplorable, disgusting and reprehensible way and they were probably fuelled by racism. That has been recognised by the majority on this thread, the public at large and the police service federation who have promised to resolve it. Not every police officer is racist. A minority are and they are systematically being rooted out and dealt with, but your desperation to inflate the actual numbers who are racist is reducing your credibility of reasoning. There's no need to add made up "facts" to this tragedy, their sad enough as they are without you adding your own fictionalised "must have beens".

You started this thread as a damned good subject to discuss trisher but you're turning it into a parody of made up statements, for some reason that I can't understand, and to hound one particular poster that you have a personal problem with. And it shows.

It a terrible thing to have happened to anyone black or white and the police officers who took selfies need to be sacked.

But when the family member phoned the police or dialled 999 how did they know if the missing persons were black or white it wouldn't come into the conversation.

They were grown women at a party perhaps in hindsight they should have gone home with their friends, but lots of women and men stay out all night, I've done it myself when I was younger.
