Hands up, how many of us have an unplanned pregnancy?

The FSM debate has led to many poster saying no one should have children they "can't afford". That contraception is effective and easily available so no excuses.

I have one child who someone arrived despite using what were said to be effective contraception. I had not long returned to work after maternity leave. We could almost pay the mortgage and child care costs, before the arrival of this surprise baby. This unplanned pregnancy was a shock but we were lucky, we managed and all was well. I don't want to cause distress to others if your unplanned pregnancy was more difficult than mine.
I wonder how many of us could say I too am Spartacus (or whatever the female equivalent name is)

sorry I should have reread more carefully - of course I have one child who 'somehow' arrived. Not someone!

I had a little surprise as well. I am so glad that I did. Can't imagine life without her.

First one was unplanned but definitely not unwanted.

One with a condom accident and 2 on the pill. I didn't know that having IBS might stop the pill from working and apparently some research suggests it doesn't but it does!

Happy accidents of course

We have 5 children - one was actually planned. We had planned to have a big family luckily.

I'm Spartacus!

I thought my youngest (of 5) was a tummy bug that I couldn’t shake off. I’ve always thought of him as ‘buy four, get one free’.

My third was an accident, but the sweetest of accidents.❤️

Iam64 Wed 28-Oct-20 18:32:32

My third was an accident - now 34 with two gorgeous children, the first one a Big Surprise/Shock and equally adorable.

sukie Wed 28-Oct-20 18:35:16

I am Spartacus. I've long believed that most of the people in the world were not planned, so to speak.

MamaCaz Wed 28-Oct-20 18:37:52

I still don't know how my second happened!

Lavazza1st Wed 28-Oct-20 18:41:25

Well, not currently but I have had in my younger days! ?

Granny23 Wed 28-Oct-20 18:42:06

Our first was planned and conceived at the 1st attempt. Our 2nd ditto but lost in a horrific miscarriage at 4 months. DH who was with me during the mis was adamant that there would be no more so back on the pill. Fortunately, like Astral I did not realise that the tummy bug I had just recovered from would nullify the protection of the Pill!! Result? My now 47 year old wonderful 2nd Daughter and I suppose also the now 13 year old DGD she gave me. Would not be without either of them.

Lucca Wed 28-Oct-20 18:48:54

Would it be Spartaca?

Auntieflo Wed 28-Oct-20 18:52:33

We have an "Autumn Crocus" as he was known.
The most lovely of unplanned surprises, long after the first two.

nanaK54 Wed 28-Oct-20 18:53:48

Oh yes!

Galaxy Wed 28-Oct-20 18:55:11

I didnt but I have absolutely no idea how I got away with it in my early twenties. grin

M0nica Wed 28-Oct-20 18:57:08

Sorry, no. both were planned and we had no 'accidents' at all.
