in the USA, right not. Let's not talk about 'throwing toys out of pram'.

Never forget the armed thugs and domestic terrorists currently storming the Capitol in Washington DC, didn’t come from nowhere.
They are the end result of a carefully orchestrated strategy to destabilise the US, allowed to work by the power-greed and self-interest of politicians and media pundits, at least some of whom knew what Trump was and that his dog whistle fascism was very wrong.
There are many, many connections between Trump’s story and the people currently running the U.K. - not just similarities but the same shadowy figures, the same strategies, the same data harvesting and dark disinformation campaigns.

Would you like to be more specific before casting aspersions?

Thank you, Varian . Someone else who can see there has been outside influence.

Who is refusing to see reality on GN?

Watching 'Tea with Mussolini' - and thinking about some on GN refusing to see reality.

Oooh! Can I be Judi Dench?

I loved her dog.

Have you got very, very short hair?
I could have qualified but lockdown put paid to that.

You don’t have to agree with the outcome of a vote and it is perfectly ok to protest against a policy you feel is wrong or corrupt in some way - that’s democratic. What’s not ok is violence, thuggery , vandalism. Some seem unable to see the difference, mainly some Trump, and Brexit supporters, and we all know there is a connection between the two, and before I get jumped on I said SOME supporters, not ALL. Pictures of Farage, Gove, Johnson cosying up to Trump tell the story.

biba70 Thu 07-Jan-21 21:05:43

it is in the title Maw.

The title
The other title is totally out of sink (synch) - this is orchestrated fascism makes no reference to members of GN who in your eyes are refusing to see reality.

I merely asked you to be more specific about who you meant instead of taking random pot shots at all and sundry.

Watch the film. We should all come to our own conclusions.
No-one in particular- and your constant goading is not going to make any difference.

Thank goodness for the Ocean Between Us
(Trying to stay with the film theme)

My post (first) lockdown haircut looked pretty good until I got back to the car and took off my mask.

I'd got Judi Dench on one side and Joanna Lumley on the other. hmm

They were clearly out of practice. grin

There is no constant goading just a perfectly reasonable request for clarification - which as usual, you have ignored .

biba70 Thu 07-Jan-21 21:51:47

there is, I can assure you. Day in, day out.

And sometimes, the best thing is to ignore.

Lovely end to the film, the scorpions saw the truth in the end.

Watching 'Tea with Mussolini' - and thinking about some on GN refusing to see reality.

Such a silly, narrow minded comment. Who's reality? Yours? Just because some people hold a different opinion, or see something from a different perspective doesn't mean that they're refusing to see reality. The vast majority of people, not just on this thread, but the public at large, are astonished, outraged and disgusted at the events in the USA, and with the Trump, yesterday. But please try to keep a sense of proportion in that, within those shared feelings of revulsion and condemnation, there is room for opinions and views that might differ to our own. That does not make them wrong. Or you right.

Scorpions? shock
I think I'll delete it

and thinking about some on GN refusing to see reality.

Who is refusing to see reality?
I don't understand.

I can see no-one on here who is not horrified by what has happened and a little fearful, too, about what could happen.

But - America has faced crises in their democracy before now and the majority of decent Americans and will ensure that they weather this storm too.

merlotgran Thu 07-Jan-21 23:44:51

Well, those silly Scorpioni. If only they'd kept up with Twitter and Facebook they'd have known what was coming.

What a daft comparison.

I don't think that politics enter much, if at all into Trump's world. His words, actions and decisions are fundamentally based on his own gratification and glorification. Hatred and racism also play sizeable roles. He rewards those who benefit him, especially the rich and influential, and deliberately harms others because he has a cruel streak.

As far as grounds for cutting off family members or friends who support Trump is concerned, I think it is less a matter of politics, about which people can disagree and still remain in touch, but a question of morals and ethics.

Who hasn’t accepted a democratic vote? Several posters on GN for a start.?

They've had to accept it. It doesn't mean that they have to be happy about it or not have a say.

growstuff Fri 08-Jan-21 01:04:41

Seeing pictures of offices in the Capitol being overturned and guns being aimed at intruders must seem like an attack on the idea of democracy in the US. I think Americans are more conscious of the ideals of democracy than people in the UK, possibly because the country is a younger one and they are more aware of their constitution as something almost sacred.

25Avalon Fri 08-Jan-21 08:20:50

Growstuff Americans ideals of democracy did not include black people when the constitution was set up following the Declaration of Independence. Black slaves and women were not included in all men being equal.

It was not until the American Civil War and the13th Amendment that Black slaves were ‘freed’ - sort of. It was followed by so called Jim Crow laws in various states that prevented black people from moving and then segregation Acts in the 1890’s that prevented them mixing with whites. They weren’t allowed to go to the same schools or get on the same bus as white people. This sorry state existed until The Civil Rights Bill of 1964. This is democracy?

Urmstongran Fri 08-Jan-21 08:35:39

^ They've had to accept it. It doesn't mean that they have to be happy about it or not have a say.^

I just wished they’d accepted it from Day 1 growstuff instead of trying to thwart it. Have a say? Yes of course, there was huge disappointment and even disbelief. But what was shoved in the path to delivery of the vote for over 4 years was a travesty of acceptance.
