Last night after feeling unwell.

Fingers crossed for him.

BlueBelle Sun 21-Feb-21 04:40:49

Oh anniebach give it a break, do ....we re talking about the Duke and his health, you re like a dog with a bone

Charles looked very sad when he left the hospital I hope the Queen can see him if he IS at his end of life

Anniebach Sun 21-Feb-21 05:08:15

I too was talking about his health, I said I thought it possible there had too much stress for someone his age, I was accused
of blaming Harry and Megan , no not blaming, just saying it
must be causing stress.

The Duke of Edinburgh is an old man who is moving towards the end of his life. It is likely, although, not certain, that he has had prostate problems for some time. Of course, the Queen will be devastated when he dies – sooner or later – just as you or I, your Mum or my Mum,

Anniebach Sun 21-Feb-21 05:50:40

Yes it could be any cause, the body wears down

vegansrock Sun 21-Feb-21 06:54:52

No one expected H and M to resume royal duties so that “announcement” unlikely to cause PP so much stress he ended up in hospital, it was indirect blame to suggest it. He’s 99 and not immortal, let’s hope he’s as comfortable as possible.

Anniebach Sun 21-Feb-21 07:20:42

Did you not read the last line of their announcement?

merlotgran Sun 21-Feb-21 08:36:40

I hope Prince Philip recovers and returns to Windsor but if he doesn't the Queen deserves the respectful passage of national mourning and reverence that accompanies the death of a major royal in this country.

The shenanigans across the pond this time are far worse than Meghan doing her usual 'upstaging.' It's beyond the pale.

Ellianne Sun 21-Feb-21 08:48:51

Do you mean that the airing of the Oprah programme should possibly be postponed Merlot? I'm assuming it has already been produced and sold on.

Nezumi65 Sun 21-Feb-21 08:52:57

Given that PP is presumably extremely ill, and has clearly been quite unwell for a long time. I doubt he is that stressed about Harry and Meghan. Serious illness tends to put things in perspective anniebach.

merlotgran Sun 21-Feb-21 09:05:26

I fear the Oprah interview is now a runaway train.

Anniebach Sun 21-Feb-21 09:08:09

The poor Queen, at a time she needs Phillip so very much.

Hope and pray he does get well

Ellianne Sun 21-Feb-21 09:09:16

I fear the Oprah interview is now a runaway train.

So who legally has the power to stop it in its tracks?

Anniebach Sun 21-Feb-21 09:14:19

No one,

BlueBelle Sun 21-Feb-21 09:15:15

The Queen never seems to visit him when he’s on his trips into hospital surely if he’s at the end of his life she would go to say goodbye !

Calendargirl Sun 21-Feb-21 09:17:21

I too hope the Duke recovers, it would be marvellous if he could get that telegram from his wife, but sadly, he might not.

In the past I have read that when the time comes, the Duke himself has no wish for a great, state (royal) funeral, just a very private one. If he were to die now, that would be quite suitable.

Of course, none of us know if that really is his wish, but it sounds very likely.

The Queen must be very sad with all that’s going on.

As for H&M being ‘much loved members of the family’. That applies to Harry and Archie I’m sure.

Meghan? Stretching it a bit I suspect.

BlueBelle Sun 21-Feb-21 09:27:27

I m sure if Philip is at end of life he will not be thinking about his grandkids lives ...after watching the Princess Anne documentary last night about her many unsuitable love affairs that he mainly didn’t approve of and the Charles and Andrew debacle I should think poor old Harry comes well down the list of his worries

eazybee Sun 21-Feb-21 09:48:41

The Royal Family always issued terse statements about any illness in an attempt to keep their health problems private; it is the actions of Harry and his wife which have promoted so much speculation about the progress of the Duke's illness.

For a man to send such an insulting public reply to his grandmother shows exactly how far Harry has sunk, and I hope the Duke has not heard or read it.

Ellianne Sun 21-Feb-21 09:52:10

Good point eazybee. The two are inextricably linked, hence the wanderings/wonderings on this thread.

Alegrias1 Sun 21-Feb-21 09:57:29

There are elements of this thread that justify more and more my opinion that the way monarchy is treated is a bad thing for this country. Random people on an online forum protesting how terrible a couple are for, basically, making an old man ill. People giving their unassailable opinions on a bunch of people we think we know because the press have told us how to feel about them. Hatred of a woman who doesn't know her station and has just ruined the son of the People's Princess. Faux-indignation whipped up by irresponsible reporting from the press who are clearly following their own agenda.

An elderly man may be nearing the end of his life. His wife of 75 years will clearly be affected by his passing. Painting her as a poor old woman driven to the brink by her errant grandson and his wicked wife does her a great disservice, as does any sentimental concern for her and her husband.

So cue now the people who say "that's not what I said" and "I didn't think that".

Hope he gets better and goes home again. Accord the family some respect and stop making silly comments about their family relationships. But most of all, stop making assumptions and daft one line posts about things you know nothing about.

merlotgran Sun 21-Feb-21 10:02:03

Your comments are way OTT, Alegrias and very bossy.

I will now take my cue, 'That's not what I said!'

Alegrias1 Sun 21-Feb-21 10:03:00

Bossy. I like being bossy. Apparently its a girl thing grin

merlotgran Sun 21-Feb-21 10:04:31

I stand by my comments upthread. The Queen Mother was afforded a dignified passing without headline grabbing antics by estranged family members.

Ellianne Sun 21-Feb-21 10:05:39

From a personal perspective I would like to discuss the possible reasons surrounding the televised interview with Oprah. And of course how it fits into the workings of the media. Nothing to do with racism, hatred, jealousy. That is for the couple to explain.

But it is the mean spirited comments that ensue on here which cause GN to pull the thread every time. This is the reason why the discussion is bubbling on the DofE thread with no real outlet.

Nezumi65 Sun 21-Feb-21 10:09:21

Completely agree Alegrias.

Parsley3 Sun 21-Feb-21 10:18:17

alegrias ?? Let the old Duke have a dignified end. His son has visited but his wife may not see him again. Don’t add to the family grief by speculating about his relationship with his family. We are better than that.
