Brexit is fast becoming a disaster

HMRC have published some figures to show that food and drink exports fell by 2bn in the first 3 months since Brexit.

Dairy was down a massive 90%? and there were losses across the board.

The figures show that rather it being a teething issue as the Tories would have us believe it is in fact structural and likely to continue unless there is some sort of move towards say the SM.

As I said somewhere else Alegrias I lived in Europe for 18 years and nowhere did I see the British Legion selling poppies. The only place I have heard of it is near the war graves in Normandy.

So they were selling poppies in Europe and now they aren't.

Indeed Mumofmadboys, my DD and partner were on a walking break near Dovedale last weekend and the lovely staff at the hotel they were staying in were run ragged, only 3 waiting staff in the restaurant running bar and food, and most seemed to be willing but untrained.

No, Its nothing to do with poppies. Let's stop talking about poppies. No more poppy talk.

Online sales of products to support the British Legion.

Sometimes there are pictures of poppies. Sometimes the brooches are shaped like poppies. Not poppies.

You heard correctly, dragonfly. I was able to buy poppies in Normandy to lay on the grave of an ancestor on the 100th anniversary of his death. There were many poppy wreaths in the cemetery presumably bought in the British Legion shop where I got mine but seems that now they will no longer be on sale.

Hello? Are my posts showing or not? Hello?

Not poppies. Not wreaths.

Umbrellas. Mugs. Scarves. Brooches.

Not poppies. NOT POPPIES.

Just been shopping in Sainsbury’s - lots of empty shelves.

“We are reporting on supply chain crisis, food shortages, labour shortages, red tape ruin and many of our own industries facing existential threat while Brexiters still insist this is no big deal and worth it.”

Whitewavemark2 Tue 22-Jun-21 13:42:07

Lowest inward investment in a decade.

The U.K. is slowly but surely going down the pan.

It needs to stop now.

GillT57 Tue 22-Jun-21 15:00:45

Yes, very noticeable gaps in the supermarket shelves over the past couple of weeks, but I expect someone will be along in a minute to tell me that I need to narrow my expectations, that we 'managed in the war' and all we need to do is grow our own.

This in the Guardian today:

Lord Frost:
”I said last week at a speech at another event that I think those who campaigned for leave would have been surprised to think that the relationship was as relatively difficult as it is now.
It’s not something that we want. We do think the sooner we can move beyond the settling down process, the better. But we probably have to let it work through.”^

Are we now saying that vote leave campaigners were not honest; that they did not spell it out that the process would be extremely difficult and damaging? We have the right to be more than surprised. After all leaving the EU was going to be the easiest thing in the world.

Dinahmo Tue 22-Jun-21 15:17:32

I await comments from Urmstongrand with interest as Frost is, or maybe was, one of her heros.

GillT57 Tue 22-Jun-21 15:21:37

Michael Gove

The day after we vote to leave, we hold all the cards and we can choose the path we want

Nigel Farage

To me, Brexit is easy … We have back British passports, we have control of our fishing waters, and our companies are not subject to EU law through the single market

Callistemon Tue 22-Jun-21 15:22:49

I can't speak for Urmstongran but perhaps, like several others, she has decided that a constant stream of remarks like that mean she has left GN.

As a remain voter, I find the personal remarks and sneering unnecessary.

GillT57 Tue 22-Jun-21 15:34:44

Actually the sneering came from the other direction. I can't tell you how many times I have been told to get over it, remain lost, all will be well if I could just believe, I have been accused of being unpatriotic, of being a 'leftie', of hating my country, etc., etc.,. All very tiresome, and still some of us wait for a list of the positives from the people who have landed us in this mess.

???

I'm sure there was some but not from that particular poster Perhaps the unpleasant ganging up was because most others had left the threads and perhaps GN.

I don't like what's happening either but neither can I stand bullying.

Carry on talking amongst yourselves.

Callistemon Tue 22-Jun-21 15:57:30

Anyway, my post wasn't directed at you GillT57 because you do not do that.

Kali2 Tue 22-Jun-21 16:14:51

Sorry, not sure what you mean here by 'bullying'. Is asking for a list of Brexit positives bullying?

Not even the Government can find any and are advertising for someone very expensive to try and find a few.

Alegrias1 Tue 22-Jun-21 16:16:31

I've found that disproving wild assertions with facts often gets classed as bullying.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 22-Jun-21 16:22:24

When he was a remainer before he switched sides to further his own ends and ensure the media was on side

Urmstongran is not on this thread, why involve her?

Hello? Are my posts showing or not? Hello?

Not poppies. Not wreaths.

Umbrellas. Mugs. Scarves. Brooches.

Not poppies. NOT POPPIES.

There are reasons why I frequently fail to engage with some of the more outrageous threads .
Too often there is a pattern:
Somebody makes an assertion, possibly anecdotal (they say) possibly misguided, (they have got the wrong bend of the stick) possibly based on a dodgy headline or perhaps they have not read all,the way through the article quoted.
There follow various replies, often putting OP, right, stating the true situation or confirming the facts . These posts are often ignored, despite being the truth of the situation.
Others agree and are then accused of “piling on”
OP insists they are right but even if not there is something else that they want to complain about, possibly on behalf of somebody nobody has heard of.
All those disagreeing or pointing out the irrelevance are accused of bullying
Somebody flounces
Many people sigh and put the kettle on.

MawBe Tue 22-Jun-21 17:14:17

My “stick” has of course got a wrong end not bend - unless it is a hockey stick? ?

Katie59 Tue 22-Jun-21 17:24:44

Nothing to do with bullying, all I am asking as politely as possible for the leavers to tell me what the benefits of Brexit are going to be.

Urmstongran is having a break from GN at the moment (but has said she will definitely be back) so presume that is why she's not joined in this discussion.
