Brexit finally being recognised as one of the causes of the crises

The BBC who has not mentioned Brexit at all for months has it appears finally opening the dam and no longer editing out any mention of the issue.

Business after business blaming Brexit for the crises.

Something we knew now being confirmed.

2 or 3 people are clogging up this board with endless threads about Brexit - it’s not fair on people ( the majority I’m sure ) who are bored stiff with it.
It’s time these posters had their own board so the rest of us can discuss other news & politics items.
Surely that makes sense?

3 of the top 15 most active threads on N&P concern Brexit.

We've got slightly different understanding of the term clogging up, I think.

It literally is thread after thread, day in day out.
Brexit is clearly an obsession for a few posters on here which is why HQ really should introduce a ‘hide poster’ option - every other forum has one apart from MN/ GN.
They’re never going to stop moaning about it.

Oh come on…slight exaggeration! Plenty of threads about the incompetence of this government, yes, but not all are about Brexit!
if I go on the H and M threads and suggest that there are too many threads about them I get shouted down and told I don’t need to read them ! Just saying.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 14-Oct-21 20:08:29

To all the Leavers/Brexit supporters - why not simply ignore any thread with Brexit in the title? There are thread titles which I don’t look at, but I certainly don’t complain about them.

Covid I think was firefighting. Going with SAGE experts. No vaccine at the beginning 18 months ago. Everyone was scared (well I was). Boris admitted to hospital. TV cameras showing Italian hospitals with poorly patients on ventilators. Dyson asked to help. So much panic. Inadequate PPE. Countries not sharing it. 2020 was beyond awful.

Brexit planning? On the back foot.

MaizieD Thu 14-Oct-21 20:20:31

Absolutely no-one is stopping you starting the sort of threads you want on this forum, Kandinsky. Do go ahead. I'm sure people will flock to post on them.

They had 5 years!

Do you know what, UG. We could have got another extension to 'transition' after covid hit. It was offered by the EU. That would have relieved the government of one worry and perhaps they might then have concentrated on keeping thousands of citizens alive...

Or, put it another way, perhaps if it had been accepted Johnson wouldn't have made such a mess of Brexit and Covid.

Who on earth is 'crowing with delight' wow!

So we are just supposed to put our head in the sand and sing lalalalalalala and let them continue to destroy all the wonderful things this amazing country is about.

NO!

What are you going to do, Kali2, to stop them destroying all the wonderful things this amazing country is about?

Just what are you going to do?

Of course people can complain and moan until kingdom come, but what on earth can be physically done? Do you think we'll go back into the EU if people keep complaining? We won't.

I think there is a bit of schadenfreude going on with some posters.

Teacheranne's post is spot on.

The thing to do is to prepare a strong, united, allied opposition- who will be able to win the next Election. So I will try and expose how devasting divisions in Labour are- and how clever alliances have to be made. Because THAT will give the country a chance to re-negotiate in earnest and with trust.

What will any amount of Schadenfreude achieve?

If Labour does not untite behind its leader, and accepts clever alliances- then the Cons will divide and continue to rule destroy this country and all within.

Kali2 Thu 14-Oct-21 20:40:04

FIVE years- on the backfoot !?! wow!

Oven ready, perfect, best ever ... he said!

Kali2 Thu 14-Oct-21 20:44:52

So I will get it in the neck from the hard left for being a softie and Tory Lite ... and from the hard right for being a 'leftie'. It's almost funny, really- and I have learnt not to care.

Urmstongran Thu 14-Oct-21 20:46:11

Maybe MaizieD. We will never really know. I fully believed if Brexit didn’t happen by ... was it 30 December 2019? ... then Parliament wouldn’t let it. I seem to recall Boris was between a rock and a hard place. He was in a time frame to honour the democratic result of the referendum.

So much water under the bridge since then. So much anxiety, sadness and loss due to Covid.

I’m not even sure my recollections are accurate. This has been like a game of ping pong for so long I’m forgetting the score line.

What did HM the Queen say (on a different matter) ?
‘Some recollections may vary’.

So it is with Brexit. And Covid.

Perhaps what we read shapes our viewpoint. We listen to different expert opinions. Read different newspapers.

I understand those who wanted to Remain aren’t going to let this drop. Probably for years. We will all promote the side we voted for. We have become entrenched. It is exhausting to keep my end up sometimes. But I do respect your viewpoints.

Kali2 Thu 14-Oct-21 20:53:44

It has gone way beyond 'remain' or 'leave' but how?

And this is why we have to fight to unite and fight with all our might the Brexit wanted by the ERG, who have been manipulating Johnson from the beginning.

Brexit was based on lies and fraud- we have to fight for truth and trust- even if within 'Brexit' whatever that is (because no one knew, and no one knows now either). And yes I agree, it is exhausting. And yes I believe you are one of the few who tries to respect other viewpoints.

Urmstongran Thu 14-Oct-21 21:06:09

But it wasn't the UK who said "a special in hell awaits .. “ (Tusk), it wasn't the UK who triggered the NIP to stop vaccines going into Northern Ireland without telling the ROI and then a few hours later backing down, it wasn't the UK who during negotiations threatened to stop commercial overflights of it's territory etc

These negotiations were a dog fight. On both sides.

Urmstongran Thu 14-Oct-21 21:07:59

Thanks Kali2.
There’s too much hate. Be nice to listen and respect one another a little more.

It’s not a question of hate lots of people 1 know voted leave, they are suffering just like the rest of us, yet none have admitted they were wrong - too proud I guess.

So let’s have none of the hate rubbish UG that’s totally out of order.

Urmstongran Thu 14-Oct-21 21:26:51

Apologies.
Maybe just ‘mean’ as in comments.

Mind you Kali2 if I recall you once said you had to sever ties with some family and friends over Brexit views it was too hurtful.

Anyway I’m watching with interest what unfolds between now and the end of the year.

MayBee70 Thu 14-Oct-21 21:27:12

I thought Johnson tried to thwart Mays attempts to ‘get brexit done’? Can someone remind me about what happened? She had some sort of deal sorted out and Johnson and his cohorts voted against it.

Urmstongran Thu 14-Oct-21 21:35:20

I feel weary just thinking about it all MayBee. It’s probably easier just to Google it. Also, round we go, again. It doesn’t get any better - rehashing.
?

Urmstongran Thu 14-Oct-21 21:36:59

We are where we are. Let’s just hope things can only get better.
I think there’s a song in there somewhere ....

No we never severed ties with any relative or friends over Brexit- we made damned sure we did not.

I did say with severed relations with relatives in the USA because they were staunch Trump supporters, who turned out to be VERY racist.

Kali2 Thu 14-Oct-21 22:10:10

Also turned out they were at the beginning of Alzheimers, and one has died since- the other one in full time care. So their outbursts can now be seen in the context.

GillT57 Thu 14-Oct-21 22:12:48

Kandinsky. Please feel free to avoid the N&P threads if they bore you, wr are all equally entitled to discuss what concerns us whether it is Brexit, the Johnson administration, relationship difficulties or family problems. If GN ends up being a bland diet of knitting and the wonders of grandchildren, I for one will be off. I like discussing politics with people, whether I agree with their views or not.

Urmstongran Thu 14-Oct-21 22:22:07

Ah that’s sad to hear Kali2. It must have been a difficult time for you in many ways.

MayBee70 Thu 14-Oct-21 22:38:26

Brexit is affecting all of us in one way or another and we have a right to discuss it.

Honestly will you ever give up this onslaught?

So we're supposed to ignore the dire mess it's left the UK in are we?
