Will the Nation accept an apology? Will you?

I won't, for sure.

Shelagh6 Thu 13-Jan-22 12:56:50

Who is going to take over from Johnson? There aren’t too many who could or would want to do it. Boris Johnson is apparently very approachable, charismatic, wins elections, lies like a trooper and I think he’ll get away with it this time. The Opposition is weak - imagine if we’d had Corbyn at the start of the Pandemic - for that alone I think BJ must stay.

Lucca Thu 13-Jan-22 12:57:39

i tend to look at the whole picture. Which is ??

Alegrias1 Thu 13-Jan-22 13:05:06

Tell me the truth.

Is it Russian bots?

Is it?

There can't be so many people who think "there's nobody any better" is a good excuse for sticking with this guy?

Mind you it would explain a lot.

grandtanteJE65 Thu 13-Jan-22 13:12:36

Will it make any difference whether or not the nation accepts Johnson's apology?

Do you really think he will suddenly turn into a truthful person or a capable prime minister?

Even if a Gallup poll or the like shows that the majority of the country's adults are against him , do you really think he will resign?

A Parliamentary vote of no confidence in him and his government might force him to resign - nothing else will.

IF he is forced out of office, a whole new can of worms will be opened.

Who do you see replacing him?

Has anyone the slightest chance of cleaning up any of the messes he has made?

It is a resigning matter. The final one in a long list of misdemeanours.

yogitree Thu 13-Jan-22 13:13:16

But the 'enquiry' is being carried out by someone who works for him! There should be an independent enquiry.

lightallan Thu 13-Jan-22 13:14:09

Let he who has not transgressed throw the first stone.

GrammarGrandma Thu 13-Jan-22 13:17:08

I don't think so. Too many people have terrible sad stories about obeting the rules on that day.

Treetops05 Thu 13-Jan-22 13:30:49

Nope, but the people who vote for him will...

Farzanah Thu 13-Jan-22 13:31:30

Johnson has insulted the intelligence of the British people with his weak excuses and especially those who because of the rules (he made) were unable to see loved ones on their death beds.

Problem being even if he goes, there are other MPs popping up in the media actually supporting him, who I think are just as bad. Also if I was Scottish conservative I would not appreciate the leader of the Scottish Tories being called “lightweight” by a true lightweight Rees -Mogg.

We are being manipulated by Dominic ,Cumming who releases drops of information to tarnish the prime minister.

Probably but they are true, hence the ‘apology’ that wasn’t. Boris has a sense of privilege and entitlement with no moral compass, making it easy for him to treat the general population as mugs. His ‘apology’ is further proof and only rubs salt in the wound.

Anyone who conducts a business meeting with alcohol, raises my suspicions

TanaMa Thu 13-Jan-22 13:53:01

Haven't seen any 'apologies' from any of the other party attendees!!

Cossy Thu 13-Jan-22 13:53:47

Honestly folks you’re all missing the point ! The question wasn’t about Keir Starmer, whom some of you are condemning and probably know absolutely nothing about him or his background, the question was about are own Eton educated PM who thinks lying is accepted and has the moral compass of a weasel ! Half hearted apologies once caught out are the work of spoilt four year olds ! He’s our PM for pity’s sake and needs to be an exemplary role model in all areas of his life ! Stop deflecting about what Starmer or anyone has done !! Btw what has Starmer done ??

homefarm Thu 13-Jan-22 13:54:03

No, I won't. He should resign.

MissAdventure Thu 13-Jan-22 13:54:48

We've yet to find out who they were.
Nobody is going to apologise until they're backed into a corner; just like Johnson.

No he shouldn’t resign. He has done a great job since the pandemic began. There was no precedent to follow and I don’t think the current opposition party would have done any better. All I’ve heard is criticism not suggestions about things might be done better. Yes, he made a mistake and he should have apologised earlier. I’m sure he isn’t the only parliamentarian, across all parties, who has gone against ‘the rules’. It just so happens that he got caught out and others didn’t. He didn’t kill anyone - the virus did that, or added to other underlying conditions speeded up someone’s death. This event happened so long ago and we must move on. I accept his apology, am grateful for my vaccines and booster, and look forward to post pandemic life. If Sir Kier had had his way we would have been locked down for the last 2 years and still would be! Then where would the economy be…..

Not at any point have I heard Starmer or any other party leader state we should have locked down for two years however what I have heard them say is we should have heeded other countries infected and affected before us and licked down sooner and SHORTER !

Please explain what marvellous things this PM has done, I must have blinked and missed it ! And please don’t say “got Brexit done” as that’s yet another cock up and partly to blame for our lack of staff in many sectors !

There must be a lot of transgressors on here, is my conclusion.

Lucca, do you have a stone throwing meme I could use please?

lemongrove Thu 13-Jan-22 14:19:19

It was definitely the wrong thing to do ( the garden party) no doubting that to most people, however I must say to those posters who think it was Johnson’s pals there, they were number ten employees.
As to should he resign? A difficult one, yes ( from the point of view of one who would like to see a different Conservative PM in place) and no because we are still unsure how Covid is affecting the country ( both the economy and health) although it’s looking brighter. Spring would be a better time all round for a leadership election. The best thing he could do is to decide to resign then rather than be pushed.

GreenGran78 Thu 13-Jan-22 14:20:42

I haven't had time to read all the comments. I have noted that BJ has cancelled his visit to my home county of Lancashire, where he would have been castigated, due to 'a family member testing positive.'
Do you believe his story, or is it just another convenient lie so that he can hide while the dust settles?
I think that it's probably just another of Boris's fibs.

lemongrove Thu 13-Jan-22 14:21:17

Let’s not resort to ‘stoning’ memes !

Mrsdof

NO! NEVER! My Mum died in hospital at 101yrs old from COVID in Oct. 2020 and the nurse called me to say she only had a very short time left and would I like to speak to her because she was crying for me. I did but it was dreadfully upsetting because she was calling my name and begging me to go and see her, but of course I couldn’t. Every time I see that smarmy bastard making excuses reduces me to tears. My Mum calling for me is something I will never forget sad

Mrsdof It is very sad to hear about your mother, and I'm sure we all send our condolences. But how can you blame Boris when it was the virus that killed her. The virus does what viruses are very good at, spreading from person to person, and your mother was at such an advanced age it is very unlikely she would survive it. You are understandably upset about the manner and circumstances surrounding her death, but I don't see how you can blame Boris for that.

Dominic Cummings - trouble making devil ?!
