Will the Nation accept an apology? Will you?

I won't, for sure.

Hetty58 Wed 12-Jan-22 18:54:18

I could just as well be grateful for the film 'Contagion' - and Matt Hancock's reaction to it (if you read the link above). A little good luck there!

DiscoDancer1975, I'm very grateful for the vaccines too - but towards those who worked so very hard to develop and supply them, not the one who just had oversight - and crowed on about it:

He got it done though didn’t he? Just saying....

Another Tory MP told me that in the tearoom the PM told him and colleagues 'it's not his fault and he's bravely taking the blame for others' - 'caused much consternation among colleagues' given that he'd just given a public apology

Not sure what this is about. Loved the film though!

We are being manipulated by Dominic ,Cumming who releases drops of information to tarnish the prime minister.

I’m sure this is true.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 12-Jan-22 19:04:22

I’m sure DC is behind a lot of it, nasty little weasel, but I’m not excusing Boris in saying that.

Casdon Wed 12-Jan-22 19:06:08

Can’t you see that Cummings is completely irrelevant to the PM’s actions? The only difference is that now we all know for sure that he lied, because he was forced to tell us. If this hadn’t come to light he would still be guilty, he just wouldn’t have been forced to admit it - and that would be worse.

There is just no excuse.

Casdon Wed 12-Jan-22 19:07:14

Crossed post GSM, my comment was for gillyknits.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 12-Jan-22 19:13:49

You’re right Casdon, he must have been praying this wouldn’t come out. I’m asking how much more will surface. It doesn’t affect my support of the Conservatives though as they as a party stand for more than this. Boris got the job he coveted, got them a big majority and now what a mess.

winterwhite Wed 12-Jan-22 19:20:14

If we allow the PM to take credit for the vaccine don’t we have to put on the other side of the scales not only the expensive fiasco of test and trace but worse still the gross neglect of care homes - insufficient protection for care workers and being obliged to take untested patients discharged from hospital? I find that harder to forgive.

Marmite32 Wed 12-Jan-22 19:22:35

I wonder how much the average voter cares about this. If there is such a person.
It seems that Boris is depending on his big majority to get him through.
Do you think the PM of an important (?) european nation should have a sense of moral obligation?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 12-Jan-22 19:23:03

I am not sure that Mr.Cummings is the only source of the leaks. ITV’s political correspondent is married to a guy who is a senior civil servant in the Cabinet Office.

M0nica Wed 12-Jan-22 19:25:07

I think the average voter cares very much. A survey carried out yesterday showed that over 60% of voters thought he should go and even 42% of Conservative voters thought the same.

Allsorts Wed 12-Jan-22 19:26:43

I think quite rightly the Nation is disgusted with him. However, although he has only apologised because he was found out, I don’t want him to go because on the whole I think he’s handled it well and can’t think who else can do it.

Ro60 Wed 12-Jan-22 19:29:32

So true MissAdventure Unforgivable, but it isn't going to a vote and with some of the weird votes going through - sewage dumping in rivers & sea for one, I don't trust my MPs either.

maddyone Wed 12-Jan-22 19:31:29

Voters are fickle. What’s important to them one week is forgotten the next. I think, rightly or wrongly, and I’m not saying it’s right, but I think voters on the whole vote according to their pocket. Whenever the next election is, it will depend on the financial situation of voters. They will consider which party will be most beneficial to themselves financially. That’s what will inform their vote.

Politicians in all countries have had to step up to the plate over Covid. Some have done better than others.

What a sad indictment it is of this country that there are people who think we should stick with a lying, cheating, lazy and inadequate man because "who else is there?"

Larry the cat could do better.

I don’t have much time for my MP either. She’s Conservative and as far as I can see, does little for the area.

Farzanah Wed 12-Jan-22 19:34:35

I’m not sure that over 150,00 deaths is “handling it well” Allsorts

Brilliant post and couldn't agree more. I don't give a damn if a bunch of Civil Servants who work together had a drink together a year ago.

To all the left wingers braying for Boris Johnson's head - be careful what you wish for. He is slightly left of centre politically, his replacement is likely to be rather more right wing.

Very kind, or is that brave, of you to agree with me!
I do wonder how many of these 'misdemeanours' of Boris have been stage-managed by his party. Certainly not just Cummings releasing 'inside' info. If Boris goes then it should be via a general election so ALL the Tories go. Then we get someone like Angela Raynor to rebuild our country post COVID?
If Boris resigns the Tory party will appoint a PM we didn't vote for. He/she will be more polished but no doubt carry on behind the scenes the same or worse. And, as you say, will be more right wing, albeit discreetly. Definitely goodbye to North /South leveling up and hello to privatisation of the NHS etc.? So happy with Boris for the time being...

MayBeMaw Wed 12-Jan-22 19:40:16

It’s the sheer stupidity of it, the let’s pretend it’s a work do, let’s hope nobody notices and we’ll get away with it.
I don’t think what they did was intrinsically dangerous to anybody’s health but if “were all in it together” then we are all in it together.
And while the buck stops with Boris , I think whoever sent the email should be shown the door along with any others responsible for organising it.
Oh and prosecuted - do you remember the two women who went fur a walk together and took their own drinks?

Iam64 Wed 12-Jan-22 19:45:17

Maw I asked the question about students, people like the two women fined for breaching guidance. I wonder if the good law project will challenge these fines in light of whatmess happening at number 10

It baffled me as to why his reply about being first in Europe, blah blah, and the wonderfull NHS, blah blah , had any bearing on his bad behaviour. Other countries had the vaccine and their health care services. Just a load of twaddle from him

Kali2 Wed 12-Jan-22 20:13:37

All very carefully prepared and planned with his team yesterday- and well rehearsed. Like the Political Broadcast tonight. The vast majority, including Conservatives, will see right through it and it won't wash.

It was a pitiful effort at his usual parting shot. He always does a little spiel like that at the end of Leader of the Opposition's questions. It was very subdued today...
