It is entirely likely the gatherings (work meetings) in No 10 complied with guidelines ... certainly at the time Boris would have thought so.

Nothing Johnson has ever done has been genuine. If his apology was genuine why did it take him all of 2 minutes to tell us he'd been visiting a freeport - oh and vaccines???? To deflect criticism and show us what a good chap he was, that's why.

Godwin's Law warning - DH watched a program about the holocaust last week, and it ended with people saying that Hitler was OK, he just went a bit far. You wonder how that could come about. Then you listen to the Johnson apologists on here and you get a glimmer of understanding.

Is this the interview where the reporter kept interrupting her as she wasn't giving the answers he wanted? He kept asking 'loaded' questions. Her responses were correct - particularly where she challenged the notion of 'parties'. Staff at No. 10 weren't there socialising, they were there doing their jobs - to protect us. Unfortunately they seem to have a culture of drink within the workplace that has lead to sensationalism by the press.
Partygate? Pettygate I think.

Trump Lite, contaminating everyone he is ever close to. Awful man. Saw Stanley Johnson at a big funeral a few weeks ago. Everyone ignored him.

I thought that BJ was supposed to be in Ukraine today and speaking with Putin about the imminent war between Russia and Ukraine. Can't imagine that you can reschedule with Putin very easily, he just doesn't strike me as that type of leader. Much more important stuff than a few G&T's during lockdown.

Johnson and his Cabinet cronies are completely lacking in integrity. It disgusts me to hear them all defending the indefensible.

Hitler was a mass murderer certainly not o.k. Boris may or may not have lied about poor socially distanced gatherings at No. 10. Only a fool would make such a comparison.

I read the whole update/report and it is utterly damning of Johnson's leadership at no. 10 and he is now being investigated by the Met although I suspect the Met's involvement is a long grass tactic. I agree with Ian Blackford (I don't vote SNP) - BJ has misled the Commons and he must go! Tory MPs: do your duty!

My understanding is that Sue Gray has been asked not publish the full report now, so as not to damage a police investigation.

This is normal practise, while the police are investigating a crime and normally would not mean that the report cannot be published later.

In this day and age the entire report can easily be on an external hard-drive locked away in a safe or a bank box.

In Sue Gray's place I would have made certain that I had multiple copies stored in different banks.

Until and unless she is served with court order to surrender them, she may retain as many copies as she likes.

At present it seems to be accepted journalistic practise to "come into possession of" various documents which are them made public whenever an editor is certain that he cannot be sued for libel, defemation of character or treason, so I think we confidently can expect to read the entire report one way or the other in the near future.

What a load of rubbish, do you actually believe he organised the parties or was it civil servants who are mostly remainers and still trying to undermine the government, he didn’t buy his own birthday cake, it’s getting pathetic and some on here have clearly fallen for the media bias . Try using some common sense, there are many more serious issues than silly little parties, have you heard of Russia?

Just fine everyone that attended these at the going rate at the time and let the Goct get on with more important matters. They were stupid and ill-advised and this should be awarning to them and to others that they are not above the law. If similar happens again then they've had their warnings and it will be automatic dismissal, whoever they are. Causing upheaval in the Conservative party now will not help to stabilise the finances of the nation or, from the looks of it, the looming war in Ukraine. The ones who are complaining the most just now should just remember pot and black!

There is nothing petty about liars and cheats being in charge of upholding our democracy. It is fundamental to all our freedoms.

Watching parliament always sickens me - they act like a bunch of badly behaved schoolchildren with a hapless teacher (the Speaker) trying to referee. Mud slinging and throwing insults rather than running the country. If they put as much effort into doing that job as thinking up derogatory comments, the country would be better off. I worked in the civil service and before that local government and law enforcement, and alcohol on the premises was banned, unless it was something in your lunchtime shopping to take home and remained unopened. It was banned at any lunchtime gatherings we occasionally had pre covid and we worked our behinds off and did extra hours when necessary so I fail to see why it was OK for senior parts of the civil service to have alcohol consumption as part of normal working life.

BTW, the 13 November was my birthday. No party for me - just a home pizza delivery.

I find it hard to believe how people get brain washed by the press, we are constantly told to ignore the press they will print anything and exaggerate to sell papers etc. There has never been a squeaky clean government, and there never will be. If Boris goes, then the next elected will be condemned after the first few months, which ever party is elected they will be condemned and always doing wrong. This is a pattern we constantly live through. I think everyone should be grateful for the way the present government has protected and guided us through an unknown pandemic. Sadly people that died had either underlying problems or refused to get vaccinated. The rest of us are alive and have survived. No other government leader in our lifetime has ever had to cope with such a horrific challenge. How many officials in Government, Council etc. didn't have there secret parties. I worked many years in council offices, and it would make your hair stand on end if you knew what they get away with. Behind closed doors. The British press are a disgrace, there are far more serious things going on than a sneaky little party. All this silliness is stirred up by the opposing parties, to hopefully get our votes next election. Just look back over the years and this always happens. Why aren't the press referring to the Labour party's little (secret Xmas party,) that leaked out and has been hushed up. Its all propaganda and political games they play. Lets concentrate on serious issues, such as the Russian problem, our rising cost of living and sort out these problems. The rest of the world must think we British are pathetic, to have our major news headlines about such rubbish.
