Boris and the Ukraine.

Before expanding on the headline, I firstly want to say how absolutely dreadful the situation is in the Ukraine at the moment. My heart goes out to all the people that have found themselves caught up in war.
I found myself wondering about Boris….. And pose the question: Just as the Falklands war saved Maggie, do you think the Ukraine has ‘saved’ Boris?

^There was quite an interesting piece by a comedian the other day, I think it was David Baddiel^

Referring to DB as a comedian is comedic. I think it’s generally accepted he’s a failed (badly) comedian.

But a successful author I believe?

The facts suggest that you think wrong Tickingbird. It's not generally accepted that he's a failed comedian.

Stand up shows that have transferred to the west end and run on and on, multiple awards, sold over 1 million books. appeared in multiple critically acclaimed shows, extensive charity work.....etc.

And a number one single... wink

Galaxy Sun 06-Mar-22 14:18:53

Yeah if that's failure I wouldnt mind being a million behind him. He was the first comedian to sell out Wembley arena.

Galaxy Sun 06-Mar-22 14:26:36

His last tour was about social media, it was one of my last nights out before the pandemic. It was excellent, I dont agree with him on a number of things but his analysis of social media is fascinating.

Sorry ladies I have never met anyone that finds DB funny. A comic? That’s a joke?

My MIL, now sadly gone a long time, used to be like that.

That film was rubbish.

No mum, you just didn't like it. There's a difference.

This should be a diffrrent thread - do we have one? Wait till the Bill has gone through?

You mix in narrow circles clearly tickingbird, or maybe just don’t ask the people you know whether they find him funny.

Coastpath Sun 06-Mar-22 17:57:27

To be fair to Tickingbird, David Baddiel is no Mrs Browns Boys smile

volver Sun 06-Mar-22 18:41:13

That's a good thing, surely? ??

tickingbird Sun 06-Mar-22 20:19:39

Coastpath. I’ve never watched Mrs Brown’s Boys. Is that a recommendation?

I find Mrs Brown's Boys to be as funny as piles.

Not a recommendation as such. I watched it once and to be honest I had more fun having my bunion op done under local anaesthetic.

I just imagine that Mrs Brown's Boys might be the kind of humour that someone who doesn't rate David Baddiel's comedy style might enjoy.

Lucca Mon 07-Mar-22 10:01:19

There are some programmes I would not watch if you paid me, mrs browns boys is one and that celebrity jingle thing is another.

David Baddiel is at least intelligent.

Lucca Mon 07-Mar-22 10:01:39

Jungle.

Coastpath. Your sneering condescension towards anyone that finds MBB’s funny tells me all I need to know about you.

I have never watched it but know it’s an Irishman in drag. I think that went out in the 70’s/80’s with The Two Ronnies. Obviously David Baddiel is the benchmark for your idea of ‘sophisticated’ comedy. Pity the TV networks don’t think the same grin

Galaxy Mon 07-Mar-22 12:21:03

This has got really weird.

Floriel Mon 07-Mar-22 12:21:28

I’m glad Boris is in charge right now. I can’t see any other politician of any flavour being as decisive.

This thread has taken an unusual detour. ?

The perspective from Germany, and why they changed their minds. Also population saying not enough done initially.

I don’t understand why you are making unfounded allegations about David Baddiel tickingbird. You may not like him, but that doesn’t mean he is no good. The BBC commissioned him to do a documentary last December, which was excellent. He’s also a mainstay of Horrible Histories, appears on panel shows like Mock the Week etc., does tours etc. etc. Best to drop it I think.

But why is it ok for you to sneer at david baddiel ? Coastpath said she found MBB unfunny as did I … no condescension involved just different tastes. Plus you’ve never watched MBB

Bizarre ??

“tells me all I need to know about you” is really rude.

Enough already I’d say !
