This is going to cause so many problems in so many ways

I can't get my head round what would be the motivation for transwomen to enter competitions if they know, before their transistioning is completed, they are still bigger/stronger and therefore have an advantage and are more likely to win purely through that. To me, any victory on those terms would seem a bit hollow.

What motivated you to enter the competition with the £2,500,000 prize money, knowing you had a biological advantage, Ms Thomas?

I have always been of the thought that sports is one of the issues that need a common sense approach.

That everyone who wants to compete should get to compete but not from a place of unfair advantage.

Not just to allow trans people to compete but to allow those who have been disqualified from competing due to naturally occurring levels of hormones to compete too.

I am sure this can be made to happen but not personally sure how because I'm not involved in sports myself.

The biggest takeaway here though is that trans people are facing more discrimination because of this issue and that's just wrong regardless

Spot the difference....

Mollygo Sun 20-Mar-22 12:38:06

Hurray
VS agrees that men competing in womens sport is wrong. She says @12:11
That everyone who wants to compete should get to compete but not from a place of unfair advantage.
I didn’t make that up or twist it. It’s there in the post and I’ve copied the post in case it’s removed.
So VS, since it has been proven that males competing in female sport puts them in a place of unfair advantage You know that means it’s cheating and it’s wrong. ???

Mollygo Sun 20-Mar-22 12:40:57

Thanks Doodledog for Mrs Merton. It took me a minute to get the point but now I’ve shared it (unnamed) with my FB friends.

Nannee49 Sun 20-Mar-22 12:41:54

Haha doodledog! And here's me thinking it's just for the glorygrin Great reference to the brilliant Caroline Aherne, much missed.

Spot the difference....

Thanks Chewbacca. Lia (must remember to pronounce Leea not L I a). So unkind to the reputation of most transwomen.

BlueBelle Sun 20-Mar-22 12:49:22

The other women in the changing room report that this person likes them to see that he is still a man in the changing rooms he is just taking full advantage of a situation that is delicate and can easily be manipulated
I really have no time for him long hair and a dress does not make a woman and this is such bad news for trans in general

Chewbacca Sun 20-Mar-22 12:50:49

I'm absolutely certain that £2.5 million had no influence on Thomas entering the competition any more than originally being ranked 462nd in the world as a male, and then suddenly become 1st when competing against women, had anything to do with it. No siree, not at all.

And personally I'd disagree that allowing people who have been disqualified from competing due to naturally occurring levels of hormones to compete too. I think bans are there for a very good reason and should remain. Period.

grannydarkhair Sun 20-Mar-22 13:02:09

snowberryZ If you’re on Twitter, then look at Ross Tucker, he’s an American sports coach/broadcaster. He explains in great detail, but in terms easy to understand, the advantages that transwomen have because of having gone through male puberty. He is very strongly against transwomen competing against women, especially in contact sports.

TerriBull Sun 20-Mar-22 13:15:11

So it's okay for Lia Thomas to expose their genitalia to their female team mates in the locker room, albeit this is not something they want to see as they have stated it makes them feel uncomfortable, but nevertheless have been told it's something they have to put up with hmm If however, they were ever in the position of having a similar experience outside the confines of the locker room presumably they could report that as indecent exposure confused

Rosie51 Sun 20-Mar-22 13:19:10

Of course some sports are mixed sex because there isn't any perceived advantage from being male or female, so they compete on an equal footing. The Equestrian events for example, show jumping, dressage, eventing, cross country jumping, and even commercial horse racing. Formula 1 has had female drivers competing against male ones. Sailing has mixed events. Where a sport divides according to sex it is usually because males would have a physical advantage over females, either speed or strength.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Mar-22 13:37:46

The bottom line on this is that Thomas knew he wasn't good enough to compete in the male category and never would be; he never ranked higher than 462rd in any race he entered. It's pretty obvious that the prize money, kudos of being a champion, (no matter how unedifying his means of getting there would be) meant that his only chance of winning was to compete against women. The only good thing about this now is that, like all cheats, his victory is hollow. He's despised and reviled amongst his peers and his "victory" has, at last, opened more people's eyes to the iniquity of males v females in sports. The unfairness of it is certainly being discussed globally.

maddyone Sun 20-Mar-22 13:40:31

Doodledog Thank you for the Mrs Merton post. I love it, it made me smile, but how true when compared to this trans woman who is actually a man.
Rest in peace Caroline Aherne, you are much misssed.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Mar-22 13:43:35

Attached are the scientific facts showing the physical differences between the male and female body at maturity. Who is going to dispute it? hmm

Chewbacca Sun 20-Mar-22 13:44:38

Drat!

FarNorth Sun 20-Mar-22 15:16:41

Lia (must remember to pronounce Leea not L I a).

Really, why?
He's L I a, as far as I'm concerned.

snowberryZ Sun 20-Mar-22 17:44:38

Finally, people are speaking out.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Mar-22 18:00:12

About time too snowberryZ. I hope they take his medal and prize money off him and give it to Emma; she was the real winner. None of the trans allies, that normally fly to the defence of trans women in women's sports, have yet come on to deny that my post at 13.43 is wrong. Therefore they must agree that the male body is bigger, stronger and faster than a woman's and competing against them is, de facto, unfair.

snowberryZ Sun 20-Mar-22 18:24:42

I would like one example of a transman coming first in a male competion.
Just one.

FarNorth Sun 20-Mar-22 18:43:24

Here is Martina Navratilova - René Richards is mentioned :

You may wait a long time. That’s because transmen are women and bright enough to know their limitations in terms of strength.

Chewbacca Sun 20-Mar-22 19:26:12

Their strength is only limited when they're matched against other biological males MollyGo; they realise that they'll never have the ability to compete and win against their peer groups, no matter how much they train. Far easier to pop a frock on, grow their hair and give themselves a girly name and compete against athletes half their size, weight and strength. Fairness and sportsmanship cannot compete with their inherently male ego.

Mollygo Sun 20-Mar-22 20:23:39

Ooh yes Chewbacca. If you want to make a point about being a tw, wear a dress or a skirt. Strange that the few I know or know of, aren’t making a point, so mostly wear non specific clothes- jeans, trousers and tops or yes, occasionally skirts.
And you’re right. Fairness and honesty and sportsmanship cannot compete with their inherently male ego.
When you think of brave men, like Shackleton, who fought his way across frozen seas to win his crew’s freedom and men like Sherpa Tensing and Edmund Hillary who achieved greatness by climbing Everest, it makes Lia, who failed as a man so simply said he was a woman ( but not AHF) in order to win look even more pathetic and selfish.
