So. The person who is likely to be our next Prime Minister told the party faithful at a hustings in Exeter that the best thing to do about Sturgeon is to ignore her. When told by the moderator that NS was democratically elected to her position, Truss said NS is just an attention seeker. Cue lots of excited clapping and cheering.

This is the woman who is meant to be our senior diplomat, who will be in the company of world leaders. NS was elected by 48% (or so) of the electorate of her country, Truss will inherit the job by getting the votes of something like 0.03% of the electorate. Ignore Sturgeon, you’re ignoring half the population of Scotland and telling them that you know better what’s good for them.

It’s the number one story up here but I don’t know how much its being reported in rUK.

Last week I called her a Welsh carrot. (You had to be there wink) But it seems I over estimated her. She’s lost the place, as we say up here.

Look at how Nicola Sturgeon supports gender ideology and clinics that give untested hormone blockers to children. I think she is best ignored too. She doesn’t stand up for women. She does know what a woman is. She supports the TWareTW fiction of Stonewall. Truss was first minister to publicly oppose it. She’s right it’s a dangerous fallacious ideology which thankfully is being sent packing thanks to the bravery of Forstater and Bailey. Brave because trans activists are so vicious and frightening. You know those men who fight the so called cotton ceiling of getting into lesbians knickers. If lesbians say no to ‘ladydick’ they are transphobic. That kind of thing. Gender neutral toilets, girls and women need privacy and space from the male gaze. Truss vows to insist that schools and hospitals have single sex loos. And separate spaces for trans if necessary. Nicola won’t discuss any of this. Context is all. Truss is for the Union Sturgeon is not. It is not unreasonable that the future prime minister of the United Kingdom sticks up for the Union and is against it being broken up. Pretty obvious I’d say.

She did a swift u turn when it was explained to her what it would mean - with a pathetic ‘My policy has been misrepresented…’ and apparently it is a policy which she will no longer pursue. As with so many ‘policies’ that she spouts without any thought of implementation. She just does not have the intellect or disposition to be PM

To be a Tory Member the age 15 qualifies ! god help us ! who would they vote for ? may be what tory daddy tells them to vote for ! I remember when I was 15 ! say no more !

Petera Thu 04-Aug-22 11:50:51

OK let's all repeat: Scottish independence and the SNP (and whoever is temporally its leader) are two different things. You may or may not like Nicola Sturgeon but that does not mean independence is a bad thing.

Dillonsgranma Thu 04-Aug-22 11:52:54

The mind boggles! Come back Boris. For all his faults I’d much rather have him in charge

Lolee Thu 04-Aug-22 11:53:43

Ignore Nicola Sturgeon at her peril. It's well past time that Scotland rid itself of the parasitic Sassenachs.

Neilspurgeon0 Thu 04-Aug-22 11:54:25

Liz Truss brighter than Doris ! We are doomed because they are both as dim as each other but you really do say the nicest things, even about Britain’s hopeless next 20 months or so, my dear ladyleftfieldlover

A lot of Scots were very prominent in the British Empire, something I have pointed out before with examples and links.

I’m English but one has to admire the many Scots from a small country, who have contributed to our modern world.

Liz Truss is showing that she is as toxic as Boris Johnson. It's quite scary the sort of people that conservatives think are suitable to run our country....

Well said pascal30.

Thats what's at the real core of this. I'm even beginning to wonder if BJ would be better...and ,for me, that's as low as it can get!

We can squabble amongst ourselves all we want but it's a very grave situation we are in, and it's looking even worse than before, whatever our individual political beliefs.

Neither of these people are anywhere near fit to go out into the wider world and represent us. Never mind sort our own countries out.

Who are these very low grade people in the Tory party and what has become of honourable and honest politicians?

It's a huge embarrassment!

I despair!

AGAA4 Thu 04-Aug-22 11:57:48

If Truss becomes PM she will be the one being ignored. The insults to the first ministers of the devolved nations and some of the other rubbish she has dreamed up need to be ignored.
Surely the Tories are on their way out.

maddyone Thu 04-Aug-22 11:58:16

lolee that’s a racist and offensive comment. I won’t report it, but it is reportable.

notreallyagran Thu 04-Aug-22 11:59:21

We're working on it.....

AGAA4 Thu 04-Aug-22 12:00:20

lolee totally unacceptable comment.

The elderly in Scotland are forgotten. Nothing added on to their standard benefits for being elderly unlike if you have children. Seems if you are young, have children you count in Scotland, or at least your vote will. Has NS or Scot Gov ever done anything wrong? Without the Greens as allies they'd be struggling even more. I lived in Scotland and the attitude to the English was appalling. Wanted your trade, money but at every opportunity it would be "you English" come up here taking jobs, houses. Little did they know I was actually born in Scotland to Scottish parents. We never hear anything about the wealth from gas or oil Scotland would have as highlighted in last Referendum. Oh forgot,it's not environmentally friendly now. Unfortunately we have a choice of totally inept political parties these days no matter where you live in the UK. Truss gave us a perfect example of what you can think but not say.

All the gringringrin don't hide the snippy remarks kandinsky. I am not a fan of NS but recognise her as a democratically elected leader. When I listen to self promoting fools like Truss I recognise just how low this country has sunk. Can anyone imagine her trying to negotiate the GFA like Mo Mowlam and others did? People sitting at talks with others who they loathed, but putting their considerable differences aside for the common good? Listen to Truss and weep for what we have lost and for what we will lose.

Too true..!
When I read her catty comment my first thought was that it takes one to know one...! ?

henetha Thu 04-Aug-22 12:18:20

lolee That's just plain nasty. You do Scotland no favours by that.

leeds22 Thu 04-Aug-22 12:19:39

I just despair. Sooner Starmer gets his act together the better (and I used to vote conservative until Brexit).

Callistemon21 Thu 04-Aug-22 12:22:44

Nicola just wants to be Queen.
And Boris wants to be King!

There we are - the republicans can vote to get rid of the monarchy and we can have Queen Nicola and King Boris. Sorted!

annemac101 Thu 04-Aug-22 12:31:53

She is the one I definitely did not want to win but it looks like a done deal. The men who speak on tv from the trade unions wiukd make a better PM. They know what they are saying, they don't beat around the bush and they are for the working people. These idiots in government are mostly all millionaires and don't have a clue how most if the British public are living. And as for what she said about NS well that was just insulting and showed that she thinks she can do and say whatever she likes. God help us all when she is PM. You thought Boris was bad , we'll wait til we get her.

cathieb Thu 04-Aug-22 12:36:24

New to this but just want to say…… Truss is just plain ignorant and disrespectful. She could have held her position by saying ‘I look forward to discussing my unionist beliefs with Sturgeon and Drakeford’ but no, she has to trash them in the superior way she’s copying from Johnson.
I’m born and bred in England, but with Scottish roots and living in Edinburgh. I am appalled by the constant English/Tory/Unionist repetition of distorted ‘facts’ about Health, Education, drug deaths etc in Scotland, turning them into ‘truths’. The argument that Scotland could go it alone like other small countries with great resources is routinely ignored or derided

Theoddbird Thu 04-Aug-22 12:37:31

I rarely make comments on political discussions but I have to say that I don't understand how she got into the final two....

Jazzhands Thu 04-Aug-22 12:39:08

I think Liz Truss is underestimating the genuine affection that the people of Scotland have for Nicola Sturgeon, because she is a very effective leader. In Scotland, there is free University education; whereas in England, students are saddled with debt for years. Why aren't English students protesting - why do they accept this as okay? It's easy the Government in Westminster to dismiss NS because it suits the agenda to divide and conquer. Why isn't England protesting and demanding free Higher Education?

Lettie44 Thu 04-Aug-22 12:55:39

These comments are totally outrageous, but fit with the values of some of her xenophobic/ nationalistic, party members. She is blatantly playing to the gallery, schooled by her ‘advisors’. NS is professional and polished, irrespective of one’s opinion of SNP. It suits LT‘s puppeteer masters (the ERG), that she is totally out of her depth. They will continue to use her as ‘leader’, to manipulate policies and processes designed to enable the billionaires to continue avoiding taxation and regulation . That’s what Brexit was all about in the first place; neoliberalism.

One seventh of the Tory party MP's have undemocratically removed a popular Prime Minister! Are they so out of touch with the 'person on the street'?

How can so few people hold our country to ransom in this manner??

Is it all down to the peevish Remainers with massive self Agendas?

Why are we allowing such a thing to happen?

I am looking at this from an objective viewpoint as I have no Party alegiance.

The ousting of Boris Johnson has been a 'put up' job from start to finish.
