A Swell Idea From ASDA To Deter Shoplifters!
Bereavement wipes out everything
Looking at TV coverage ...I'm feeling anxious that the more we send/spend on helping Ukraine, we're cooperating am not saying we shouldn't but just thinking how others feel about how far we go..we're already in crisis with NHS and need of financial assistance for cost of living assistance and this is too much for people's mental health

They were carried during the Falklands war, and some were damaged. One was ship was sunk and the MOD has always refused to give any information about whether it did or not, carry nuclear weapons.
''The MoD said it was routine practice for British naval ships to carry nuclear weapons during the 1980s, but this ended in 1993. For decades, the MoD has refused to confirm or deny the presence of nuclear weapons at any particular time or place. But in her verdict on the Guardian's complaint, the ombudsman decided there was no danger to national security if the weapons were no longer in service.
She said it was difficult to envisage that the "release of information about events that happened some time ago to weapons that no longer exist could cause harm if made more widely available".

I do not believe that this makes us any safer. And indeed puts us at massive risk. MAD no longer makes sense- it never did.
It reminds me about this other thread on GN, about carrying a knife. Some believe is makes you safer- most do not. Because if you have a knife, and so has the other person who is possibly or probably unhinged- it makes all much more in danger.
And when I say all, I mean all- not 'just' the knife carriers.
Yes, they normally carry nuclear weapons. When I was teaching in an inner city school very near the naval dockyard some years ago, a British nuclear sub came into the docks for a couple of days. Our school and other nearby schools were issued with tablets, to be kept under lock and key, to be administered to the staff and children in the event of a leak/problem. We were also given strict instructions about how to proceed in the event of such a thing happening ie close all doors and windows, do not leave the building, administer the medication to everyone in the building etc. Local homes were also issued with instructions of what to do in such an event. This was only for the area immediately adjacent to the docks. It had never happened before nor did it happen again. So the answer is yes, they carry nuclear warheads.
Fleurpepper the Royal Navy are upfront about the number of missiles on board.
Ships are easy to locate, submarines not so.

Normandygirl of course the facts I listed are undisputed facts.
You are trying hard to justify Russia’s aggression and frankly I think that is absolutely disgusting.
You only view my comments as justifying Russia because you seem to have no idea what brought about this war in the first place. The coverage of this conflict by the UK media is the most ludicrously biased news I have seen in my lifetime and you are blinded to any facts other than Ukraine being the completely innocent victims of completely inexplicable Russian aggression. The US has quite clearly and deliberately brought about this situation. One only has to look at the military history of the US to see the utter hypocrisy being spouted about Ukraine.
Why do you think that Russia should accept 10's of thousands American troops stationed right on it's border with Ukraine as has already happened in Poland, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria? Do you believe that the US would tolerate thousands of Russian troops stationed on it's border with Mexico without taking action or would they react exactly the way Russia has done?
The war in Ukraine didn't start with the invasion, it has been decades in the making. People need to understand what led up to it, specifically NATO/EU expanding right up to Russia's borders.
Hypocrisy at best and idiocy at worst.

You need urgently to read the international press Normandygirl.
I’m feeling a bit jittery about China’s involvement.
I have no idea about what brought about this situation in the first place? Oh please
I don’t suppose you can help your bigoted anti European/American/NATO point of view as you are so clearly supportive of anything Russia does. Never mind, get on with it. I can’t be bothered any longer.
Putin is to address the Federal Assembly on Feb 21st and there are unscheduled meetings of the State Duma and Federation Council on February 22nd.
The lower house of the Federal Assembly meets in the morning and the Federal Council at 3 pm.
Reported in Pravda.
Pravda still remains the official organ of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
Make of that and some posts on this thread what you may.
Biden has visited Kiev today.

We are of course getting biased propaganda thats what always happens, if you are incapable of seeing through it more fool you. (Not personal)
Of course Russias actions are “explicable” they wanted an independant Ukraine like Belarus, NATO and the EU are both culpable in encouraging Ukraine to “look west. Since the Cold War the US has been quite content with the status quo in Europe and certainly does not want an escalation in Ukraine if a settlement can be achieved.
The US is not on a war footing currently, it will supply what NATO needs from stocks, and provide a nuclear deterrent, with Taiwan security rumbling in the background it wants Ukraine settled quickly.

Russian propaganda infiltrates everywhere, even a forum for Grandparents!
I don’t understand what the problem is in posting prior warning of Putin’s addresses to the Russians. It should at least alert us to a change of narrative.
We all know everything is propaganda!
Interesting that there is a tv program on right now about the possibility of a 3rd World War because of China and America. They are concluding that war is very, very close. I wonder how helpful these sort of programs are really. We, the people, don’t have a lot of choice in these big boy games.

The President of Russia addresses the Country each year in a state of the Country speech along with the annual parade of their forces and weaponry (Google is your friend)
I am a bit peeved of the Russia is not the bad guy narrative appearing on GN.
Granny Gravy 13 and does he usually do follow up meetings the next day?
Interesting to see what spin Putin puts on it. One year later and many young dead soldiers.

Thousands and thousands of people have died, Russian soldiers and paid militants along with Ukrainian soldiers and civilians fighting to keep their country free of a wannabe President of a new USSR.
I know who I blame …

That’s what I’m thinking too
With nuclear weapons in the hands of politicians there will always be a very real chance of nuclear war. It’s more a case or ‘when’ not ‘if’.
Nuclear weapons have always been in the hands of politicians and the last time anyone used one was 1945.
Whose hands should they be in? The military? I would prefer politicians any day. The military rquirement is to do the job the politicians set them. It is up to the politicians to set the limits on what weapons the military can use.
